Perrreault’s Family – Highlights –
Normande et Fernand Perreault ont 5 enfants dont 3 ont été patineurs qui ont représentés le
Canada lors d’événements internationaux.
M. Fernand Perreault, maintenant décédé, a été président du Conseil d’administration du CPVS
pendant plus de 5 ans et bénévole durant plusieurs autres années. C’était donc au tout début
de l’histoire du CPVS, qui elle a débuté en 1972, il y a 40 ans…
Normande and Fernand Perreault have 5 kids, 3 were skaters who represented Canada during
several international events.
M. Fernand Perreault, who died a couple years ago, was the Sherbrooke Speed Skating Club’s
president for more than 5 years and volunteered for many years. It was at the very beginning of
the club’s history, which started in 1972, 40 years ago…
Voici quelques détails sur les carrières sportives des Perreault / Here are some details about
the Perreault’s sport careers
Sylvain (père de Nicolas, 11 ans, patineur développement)
• Sylvain débute le patin à 11 ans (en 1973-74) en participant aux finales régionales
des Jeux du Québec qui le mèneront à la finale provinciale à Rimouski (1974).
• Fait cocasse : Il fait la finale régionale en patin de hockey et la finale provinciale en
« longues lames »…Un nouveau patineur de vitesse est né! !
• A été membre de l’équipe nationale longue piste de 1980 à 1985 (5 ans).
• Spécialiste des longues distances, sa meilleure performance internationale est
quand même un 7e rang au Championnat du Monde au 500m, en 1981, en
Norvège.
• A accompagné l’équipe nationale au Jeux Olympiques de 1988, 1992 et 1994 à titre
de conseiller technique.
• Toujours patineur au CPVS...
Sylvain (father of Nicolas, 11 years old, who skates on the developpement circuit)
• Sylvain started speed skating at the age of 11 (in 1973-74) and participated in the
Quebec Games trials, which led him to the Provincials in Rimouski (1974).
• Funny fact: He skated the Quebec Games trials in hockey skates but the Provincials
in speed skates… A new speed skater has been born!
• He was a member of the long track national team from 1980 to 1985 (5 years).
• A long distance specialist, his best performance was in a World Championship in
Norway, where he finished 7th. It was in 1981.

He accompanied the national team at the 1988, 1992 and 1994 Olympics as
a technical advisor.
• He is still a skater at the club…
Maryse (mère de Kim, 20 ans, Danika, 17 ans et Frédérique, 15 ans qui ont toutes faits
du patinage de vitesse de niveau développement à espoir)
• En 1975, une année après son frère Sylvain, elle débute le patin également à l’âge
de 11 ans. A également participé aux Jeux du Québec et au Jeux du Canada (au
jeune âge de 14 ans).
• Membre de l’équipe nationale de longue ET courte piste de 1981 à 1990 (pendant
10 ans!). En 1986, l’équipe nationale de courte piste est officiellement formée, les
deux équipes deviennent distinctes. Elle choisira alors la courte piste. Maryse
faisait les deux équipes mais devait se qualifié pour chacune d’elle et à partir de
1986 elle se consacre à la courte piste.
• Championne du monde en 1982 (Moncton, Canada)
• Participation aux Jeux Olympiques en 1988 (Calgary)
• Participe avec sa sœur Annie au Championnat du Monde en 1990, à Amsterdam
(Se seront ses derniers…et les premiers de sa jeune sœur…).
• Entraîneur (entre autre de sa sœur Annie…) entre 1997 et 2003.
Maryse (mother of Kim, 20 years old, Danika, 17 years old and Frédérique, 15 years
old, who all speed skated on the developpement and espoir circuit)
• In 1975, a year after her brother Sylvain, she started skating at the age of 11. She
participated in the Québec Games and in the Canada Games (at the very young age
of 14).
• Member of the short AND long track national team from 1981 to 1990 (for 10
years!). In 1986, the national team of short track is officially formed and the two
sports are separated. She chose short track. Maryse was part of both short and long
track national team but to remain on those teams she had to qualify every year.
From 1986, she made the decision to stick with the short track.
• World Champion in 1982 (Moncton, Canada)
• Participant at the 1988 Olympic Games in Calgary
• She participated with her sister Annie in the World Championships in 1990, in
Amsterdam (it was her last competition… but her sisters first…).
• Coached from 1997 to 2003 (she even coached her sister Annie).
Annie (mère de William, 8 ans, Raphaëlle, 7 ans et Alexandra, 3 ans qui font du
patinage de vitesse de niveau initiation)
• Débute le patin à l’âge de 6 ans en 1977.
• En 1983, elle participe aux deux finales des Jeux du Québec la même année (hiver et
été).
• A participé à 5 Championnats canadiens par catégorie d’âge (2X cadet, 2X juvénile,
1X junior).
• A l’âge de 15 ans (1987), elle joint l’équipe canadienne de patinage de vitesse sur
courte piste. La même année, elle participe aux Jeux du Canada et y remporte 4
médailles d’or (sur toutes les distances). Elle prend sa retraite en 2003, après 16 ans
de participation sur l’équipe nationale !
• En 1990, elle accompagne sa sœur Maryse au Championnat du monde à
Amsterdam.
• Participe aux Jeux Olympiques en 1992, 1998 et 2002 (en rémission d’une blessure,
elle y sera comme substitut).
• En 1992 (Albertville), une seule distance individuelle est présentée : le 500m chez
les femmes et le 1000m chez les hommes. Elle fait partie de l’équipe féminine qui
remporte l’OR au relais.
• En 1998 (Nagano), elle remporte l’or au 500m et le bronze avec l’équipe féminine
du relais. Sa sœur Maryse est alors son entraineur.
Annie (mother of William, 8 years old, Raphaëlle, 7 years old and Alexandra, 3 years
old, who skates on the initiation circuit)
• She started skating at the age of 6 years old, in 1977.
• In 1983, she participated in two Québec Games trials, during the winter and the
summer.
• She participated in 5 Canadian Championship (2 in pre-midget, 2 in midget and 1
Junior).
• At the age of 15 (1987) she joined the Canadian Short track National team. The
same year, she participated in the Canada Games and won 4 gold medals (so for all
the distances). She retired in 2003, after 16 years on the national team!
• In 1990, she went to the World Championships in Amsterdam with her sister Maryse.
• She participated in the 1992, 1998 and 2002 (as a substitute that year) Olympics.
• In 1992 (Albertville), only one individual distance is presented: the 500m for women
and 1000m for men. That year, she was on the relay team that won the gold.
• In 1998 (Nagano), she won the gold medal for the 500m and the bronze with the
women relay team. Her sister Maryse was her coach during these Olympics.
Ce sont maintenant les petits enfants de Normande et Fernand qui patinent au CPVS.
Those are the grandchildren of Normande and Fernand that skate at the Sherbrooke’s Speed
Skating Club.
