EMPLOYERS PLAYING
IT SAFE
In 2012, the job market was affected by the European debt crises and by the uncertainties
swirling around French economic policy. For this reason, recent graduates found employers
taking prudent positions, especially in the second half of the year.
The hiring of EDHEC graduates unfolded smoothly for those who turned their internships
into first jobs by looking for work as soon as they began their last year of studies. All the
same, hiring procedures were stretched out, and the average length of the job search was
greater than for last year’s graduates.
The key employment factors were the quality and consistency of studies and internships,
as well as the ability to adapt to new market conditions.
INTERNATIONAL FROM
THE START

The globalisation of hiring, in addition to the strongly international flavour of EDHEC’s
programmes, has clearly broadened the playing field for our recent graduates.
Two thirds of these first jobs have an international dimension, and half of MSc EDHEC
graduates move on to international corporate graduate programmes, VIE abroad, and
foreign companies that appreciate their training and their versatility.
After Europe, Asia—China and Singapore above all—are the most fertile hiring grounds. The
American continent is the third job market due to the renewed dynamism of the United
States. Great Britain remains the top destination in Europe, ahead of Switzerland, Benelux,
and Germany.
A WIDE VARIETY OF
CHOICES
Recent MSc EDHEC graduates have positions in all management roles in a wide variety of
companies and industries. As is fairly customary, a relative large percentage (54%) of recent
MSc EDHEC graduates are employed in finance and banking; marketing, management
consulting, and business development are also very popular. Purchasing jobs are likewise
more and more common.
EDHEC graduates choose environments and industries that dovetail with the characteristics
of their generation: the media, e-business, new technologies, culture, the environmental
industry, NGOs, and so on.
Digital technologies have had an impact all around.
MSc EDHEC graduates are also more and more likely to take the leap into entrepreneurship
on finishing their studies. Finally, our graduates are still entering corporate graduate
programmes, springboards for international careers.
