Pursuant to section 27 of the Highways Act, the
Commissioner in Executive Council orders as follows
Le commissaire en conseil exécutif, conformément à

1. The attached Visitor Information Sign Regulation is
hereby made.

1. In this regulation,

lists, by category, the name of services, facilities or
attractions operated by a business that is installed on a

Prohibition on the Installation of Signs

3.(1) No person shall install or alter, or cause to have
installed or altered, a sign except as authorized by a permit
issued under this regulation.

(2) Subject to subsection (3), no permit shall be issued
for signs referring to services, facilities or attractions that
are not located in the Yukon.

(3) A permit may be issued for community
promotional signs for Atlin, British Columbia, Inuvik,

Permits for Signs

4.(1) A person applying for a permit or renewal of a
permit to install a sign, other than a community
promotional sign or a first nation sign, shall make the
application on a form provided by the director and submit
the information specified by the director, including,

sign identifying the type, size, content and design
of the sign and describing the type of structural

(h) in the case of an alteration to a sign, the

(3) An applicant shall submit the application fee
prescribed in Schedule A to the director with the
application for the permit. The fee is not refundable.

(4) Subject to this regulation, the director may issue
or renew a permit to an applicant subject to any terms and
conditions that the director considers appropriate or may
refuse to issue or renew the permit.

(5) Permits shall be issued in the name of the
business, community or first nation that is responsible for
the sign.

(6) A permit may be issued or renewed for a period of
up to three years.

(7) It is a condition of every permit that a permit
holder shall

5.(1) Where one or more businesses provide a service,
facility or attraction at the same location, these businesses
shall apply for a single permit for a sign.

than one business, each business shall be joint and

6.(1) The director may consult any person,
community, first nation or agency with respect to any
application for a permit and shall consider any
recommendations made by a community or first nation
pursuant to section 11 in reviewing an application for a
permit.

Appeal

7.(1) If the director refuses to issue a permit, the
person who applied for the permit may, within 30 days of
the date the director refused to issue the permit, appeal the
decision of the director to the deputy head by delivering, in
person or by registered mail, a written request for an
appeal.

(2) Upon receipt of a request for an appeal, the deputy
head shall, as soon as practicable after giving the person
reasonable notice and an opportunity to be heard,
determine that a permit should be issued or renewed or
that a permit should not be issued or renewed.

(3) Subject to this regulation, the deputy head may
identify any terms and conditions that shall apply to the
permit to be issued or renewed.

(4) Where the deputy head determines that a permit
should be issued or renewed, the director shall issue or
renew the permit subject to any terms and conditions that

Cancellation or Suspension of a Permit

8.(1) The director, after giving the permit holder
reasonable notice and an opportunity to make
representations, may, by notice in writing, cancel or
suspend a permit

with a notice of repair issued pursuant to section

have been taken by the permit holder to whom a notice
under subsection (1) was directed to remedy the conditions

name tab installed shall make the application on a form
provided by the director and submit the information
specified by the director, including

facility or attraction as it is to appear on the
visitor services name tab;

(d) the location of the visitor services sign that
the visitor services name tab is proposed to be
installed; and

(2) The director shall, in writing, inform a person
applying pursuant to subsection (1) whether the visitor
services name tab shall or shall not be installed on a visitor
services sign.

(3) Upon receipt of the fee prescribed in Schedule A

10.(1) The director may identify zones for the
purposes of controlling the installation of signs, including
the following:

highway and in which no signs may be installed;

director shall give notice of the need to remove the sign, in
writing, to the permit holder.
