International Academy
of Medical Ultrasound
General Information
Dear Readers,
Modern ultrasound technologies have become
extremely sophisticated and the number of applications offered by each Voluson* ultrasound system
continues to increase. As a result, education has
become an increasingly important aspect of the
GE – customer relationship.
Whereas it was once commonplace to provide only
initial operator instruction with a newly purchased
system, today it is clear that our customers benefit
greatly from specialized training on the more advanced technologies, especially those on our 3D/4D
ultrasound systems. And so our first customer
training programs began, initially in the form of
single User Days, designed to demonstrate how
Voluson systems help improve diagnosis, boost
patient throughput and reduce exam times.
These User Days were followed by longer VISUS
courses (Vienna International School of Ultrasound
Sonography), established in Vienna in 1996 by
Professor Kratochwil.
Since VISUS continues to provide regular training
courses in 3D/4D ultrasound we decided to run
VISUS on a country-by-country basis. What began
as a trial in Cluj, Romania, in November 2006 has
now become a role model and success story for
the entire Eastern European region.
So far we have run around 90 courses throughout
Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
We look forward to meeting you
on one of our courses.
The International Academy of Medical Ultrasound
is the education center for ultrasound applications
in Radiology, Cardiology and OB/Gyn on the
highest level of today’s medical practice. It is the
aim of the IAMU to make physicians familiar with
latest innovations of ultrasound applications to
increase the efficiency in diagnosis.
This booklet is divided in 9 areas. Every register
provides information about the courses taking
place in the area. You will also find dates, courselanguage and luminaries.

Part of a series of courses designed to build on
the foundation of the post-installation Voluson
applications training. It will acquaint the user
with a wide range of advanced techniques in an
off-site environment, the GE Healthcare Clinical
Training Centre in Hatfield, Herts, allowing greater
focus on the content. To underline the theoretical
