AND VISUAL IDENTITY This season, PREMIERE CLASSE invites us to a time travel. Destination: one of the richest times in the history of fashion, starting in the 1920s to end in the 40s. It’s the dream-period for Couturiers, Coco Chanel, the great Arts Déco exhibition… In the magazines, the so-called "fashion models" are the talk of the town. Based on these, Pierre-Louis Mascia, the artistic director for PREMIERE CLASSE at the Tuileries imagined these wonderful figures marking the visual identity of this new session. Their slim look is an obvious tribute to the 20s, but these sophisticated and Couture women are also a link between the past and today, between a sumptuous period and a trade show celebrating the great return of seduction, elegance and the traditional couture spirit. The other creative lead this session is related to Modern Times. Just as Chaplin, the trade show wanted to mention these times of economic crisis with humor. To do so, he asked the pope of scrap iron to help him, a.k.a. sculptor Patrick de Bruyn. With the help of his fellow, the glassmaker artist Béatrice Hermitte, they created animated sculptures that will put rhythm into the trade show. PATRICK DE BRUYN Originally an engineer, Patrick de Bruyn has a passion for mechanics. A creative jack-of-all-trades, he designed motion picture and theater sets as well as special effects for commercials. A tireless inventor, he established his workshop in a «chatodo» (water tower) where he imagines and makes all his diabolical machines. http://pagesperso-orange.fr/debruyn BÉATRICE HERMITTE A glassmaker artist specialized in contemporary stain glass window making, Béatrice Hermitte is an abstract expressionist always on the lookout for the perfect light. She rebuilds stain glass to free colors that are imprisoned by their own limits. Among her latest creations: her stain glass work for the Saint-Cloud academy of music. http://www.beatrice-hermitte.com 7 LES TENDANCES ACCESSOIRES DE L’HIVER 09-10 La morosité ambiante n’a pas entamé le moral des créateurs. 8 THE WINTER 09-10 TRENDS FOR ACCESSORIES The current gloominess hasn’t discouraged designers. On the contrary, they have chosen to answer with a creative frenzy, giving luxury a new interpretation, devoid of effects or precious stones… This season, accessories vigorously defend their personality. Even better, they have a soul. They draw their inspiration from old times authentic materials or traditional know-how. Around this theme, two approaches confront one another. On the one hand, designers urge for a come-back to original simplicity. This scenario favors a simpler and purer design, a more natural approach often associated with sustainable development. The bags are a perfect illustration for this new phenomenon, with sophisticated pleated or naturally worn-out leathers that express their natural sensuality and tell us a story. On the other hand: hyper-sophistication. For jewels, the most impressive items are a hit, with more and more artistic compositions combining ribbons, pearls, stones, gold and sterling silver. Necklaces appear as true clothes for cleavages, to the point that they become shirtfronts and appear as rich trimmings hidden in clothes. As for shoes, ultra-feminity is everywhere with a new fashion diktate: breathtakingly high heels, and pumps combining numerous precious details: material patchworks, crystal inlays and sophisticated bows. At the end of 2009, shoes will assert their personality. To face the crisis, designers have chosen action. They all have their own method. According to their tradition and know-how, some look for a new kind of authenticity. Special care is paid to the quality of materials. The aim here is to offer almost originally pure models, with vegetable-tanned or even natural leathers. An urge for simplicity that shows in the shapes; especially with the ever-lasting boots. The exact opposite of this trend is glamor and seductioon. Ultra-sophisticated, ultra-feminine and even slightly provocative, this trend features high heels, construction sets and various material combinations. When precious skins swing along with patent leathers, or when embroidered leather competes with tortoiseshell, the result is a real diva style. Colors also become precious with ruby red, jet-black or deep-sea blue… What a program! There are several sources of inspiration: Ingrid Bergman, Horst P. Horst and Hitchcock’s heroines. A very revival-oriented season… Discreet, light and tiny jewels hidden in the hollow of a cleavage have disappeared this season to give way to an XXL trend where creations, larger than ever, almost act as clothing items. Necklaces become shirtfronts while bracelets are almost as thick as double cuffs. The season is impregnated with a very couture and retro spirit. Nostalgic for a golden age when jewels were true works of art, this accessory family is in search for lost time. Finely chiseled antique swirls, diamonds, set pearls and little vintage links cultivate a taste for a comforting and idealized past from which only the best is remembered. As many bits and pieces of a precious story to take with you everywhere… 10 SACS BAGS Dans la lignée des saisons précédentes, le sac voit l’avenir en grand. Just like during past seasons, bags still go for an XXL future. Pure elegance and eternal lines are still relevant and give leather the opportunity to vibrate in its natural sensuality. Inspired by prêt-à-porter and couture, surface effects are getting more sophisticated. Braided, embroidered, pleated, drape, trimmed… All the effects are allowed to enhance the perfection of shapes, while ties, bows and chains are here to catch the eye and underline the personality or each bag. Saddler-style processed leathers are not as shiny as new but tell a story. Rather than being just another seasonal whim or a short-lived trend, their beauty and authenticity speak for a true know-how. For some designers, the vintage spirit is just around the corner, as shown with the color palette adopting very reasonable shades of gray, black and brown. Some eccentric spirits offer more unusual creations. As an example, the «multitask» bag for travelers, as well as the «transformist» version with removable strap and retractable handles, to be always ready, whether during the day or a night. Belts also fall in step with the latest trends. An important detail not to be ignored to put the finishing details to your outfit in these times of fitted waists and structured figures, they adopt a very masculine touch with patterns such as tartan, herringbone, houndstooth or prince-of-wales check. Look enhancers, hats play with contrasting effects and gender hybridization. Sophisticated mini-hats with sculptural curls become less arrogant when combined with simple jersey. Conversely, sports models, aviator hats or long-peaked cyclist caps adopt a rather traditional chic. Synonymous for elegance, these key accessories for a perfect figure are always reinterpreted with audacious combinations. Just like this classic city felt hat modernized with a 100%-jersey peak, that ultra classy Borsalino in bright shades of lavender and raspberry or even the complex and sophisticated chapka that fits in your pockets… More than ever this season, hats are given a leading part in our wardrobe. Thank you Pete Doherty, Jamiroquai or Johnny Depp…! Scarves confirm their presence and adopt generous volumes to wrap yourself in. Cashmere, more desirable than ever, is opened to all stylistic eccentricities. Woven in very thin layers, it unfolds in delicate and ethereal shawls featuring highly original prints. Designers go for effects in a festival of techniques and colors. Black, red, blue, deep purple, yellow… The selected shades are here to liven up the winter season while embroideries and bobbles play with material combinations. Gloves are as luxurious and innovative as ever. They attract the eye with trendy tones such as plum or red. Hyper sophisticated, they are adorned with painted patterns, lace or flounce details. Fabric mixes are allowed, enhanced with geometric patterns reminiscent of origami, creating raised pattern effects. Chic or fun, they yield to all eccentricities. Everything but plain… umbrellas also proudly exhibit trendy colors. The season’s inspirations are rich for everyone to find their own style. Graphic and geometric or kaleidoscopic, neo-romantic with prints inspired from the Japanese imagery. Since its creation, PREMIERE CLASSE has defended and promoted brands safeguarding authentic knowhows and traditions. This season at the Tuileries, the trade show remains faithful to its original mission, and gives us the opportunity to discover or rediscover the exceptional work done by the famous Maisons that have played an important part in the world of haute couture. Zoom on three of them. Bon voyage ! www.philippeferrandis.com 16 BOOTH 233 - FRANCE Philippe Ferrandis created his first jewels and fashion accessories in 1986. Right away, the elegant style of his creations drew the attention of Parisian couturiers that brought in his talent to accessorize their collections and fashion shows. Since then, two collections are made in his Parisian studios each year, without forgetting a few unique and spectacular pieces, very easily identifiable thanks to the volumes and unusual shape of the gemstones and natural crystals. For the winter 2010, the jewel maker continues exploring the theme of travels and discoveries. Six cities are paid a tribute to with a very Breakfast at Tiffany’s-like « Manhattan » line, the « Firenze » line with vintage and neo-baroque couture shapes, the « Séville » line featuring fluttering lacquered butterflies, « Ténérife » where black enamel flowers are associated with lava stones, « Louxor » with sumptuous beige agates set on opal, and last but not least, « Shangai » featuring jade and coral adorned with onyx and crystal dragons. The unique decorative sintered glass technique developed by his great grandmother, Augustine Gripoix, has always been admired by the most famous personalities, from Gabrielle Chanel to Paul Poiret and Sacha Guitry. With Thierry Coluwaerts-Gripoix, this tradition lives on; he continues to get his inspiration from the family vegetable palette. He’s very subtly added a touch of modernity, while safeguarding the family brand’s spirit and quality. www.augustine-paris.fr 18 MIRIAM HASKELL STAND 266 - ETATS-UNIS La griffe Miriam Haskell voit le jour à New York, en 1926. Reste une extrême sophistication, à la fois chic et rétro. www.miriamhaskell.com BOOTH 266 - UNITED STATES Brand Miriam Haskell was born in New York in 1926. At that time, the young American designer launched a first collection, entirely handmade. Meticulous and original, her work drew the attention of celebrities. Among them, Gabrielle Chanel… 80 years later, we’re witnessing a return to the origins, with both skillful and artistic creations. Created as a combination of materials, necklaces look like skillful construction games where ivory pearls, Swarovski crystal, sterling silver chains, small vintage links and semi-precious stones are stacked up. Processed by expert hands, each piece of jewellery is unique and tells us stories inspired by Arts Déco or Etruscan culture: extreme sophistication, both chic and retro. www.miriamhaskell.com 19 ESPRIT DENTELLES SPIRIT OF LACE Par ses volutes et autres subtiles circonvolutions, la dentelle inspire cette saison l’univers du bijou. With its curls and subtle convolutions, lace is an inspiration for jewels this season. This symbol for feminity is given new and varied interpretations thanks to designers skillfully chiseling material, giving raw elements an exceptional lightness. Attention, choc des cultures ! www.vipularts.com BOOTH 362 - INDIA The founder of Indian brand Vipul Arts, Vimal Jain, is a jewel expert. After 30 years of experience in this sector, he managed to turn the small family business into a respected brand in the world of jewel making. His creations are a talented combination of traditional know-how from ancient Indian jewels and more contemporary techniques. Gold, silver, precious and semi-precious stones are intertwined into skillful compositions. The charm of ethnic jewels blends with the subtlety of a more Victorian British style. A delicate and intense collection for Christian Lacroix this season. The designer remains faithful to his Merovingian crosses with their blown-glass heart, but also works with ornamental metal, giving birth to heavy bracelets, looking like pieces of ironwork or fine abstract lightly illuminated elytrons. The aquatic fauna and flora are also an inspiration for the master. To be discovered: a myriad of small pieces of jewellery paved with light, halfway between insects and shell, with necklaces looking like shirtfronts or cascades. Véritables œuvres d’art, ils sont sublimés par des saphirs et diamants colorés. www.orgetulga.com BOOTH 365BIS - TURKEY Young designer Ölge Tulga chose to open her studio right in the heart of Istanbul’s historical center. The Old City walls impregnated with various artistic and cultural influences, as well as the Great Bazar’s amazing atmosphere are also an inspiration for the young woman. A mix of contemporary and classic elements, her collections combine historical references and abstract art. A never ending link between past and present, portrayed by a collection around the theme of spheres, one of Örge Tulga’s favorite shapes, symbolizing positive energy and balance. Finely chiseled or beaten, her jewels look like antique objects or ultra-modern creations. Its strength: 100 % handcrafted jewels made in Hong Kong. Perfectly at ease with their eccentric look, the nonconformist creations combine a wide variety of materials ranging from textile to gemstones. Once again this season, pearls and round shapes are the main components of the collection. The lace-like chiselling work is reminiscent of Imperial China jewels. These fantastic creations are directly inspired by Patrick Wong’s fertile imagination. This London Central Saint-Martin’s School graduate gets his energy from the European capital of eccentricity where he spent 10 years. www.g-palace.com 25 MOUVEMENTS MOVEMENT La matière n’a plus de limites. Flexion, extension, torsion… Action ! There are no more limits to creation. Designers become architects and use material in 3D. This season, they treat us to a dynamic fashion where materials adopt movement. Flex, stretch, distort… Time for some action! Since her sweet childhood years, this young designer has always loved playing with material, tying, braiding and intertwining it… At the time, she’d make original necklaces with her grandmother. Today, she offers a fresh vision of accessories thanks to her very own trademark: leather string bows present in all her collections. Before launching her own brand in 2007, Katherine Kwei started working at Louis Vuitton. After studying at the Studio Berçot, Hélène Zubeldia started at Chloé’s where she was introduced to oriental magnificence by designing evening dresses for customers of the Persian Gulf. She then joined Lanvin’s prêt-à-porter studio where she acquired the culture of luxury and her know-how. After that, she took part in the creation of the brand Vanessa Bruno. In 1997, Hélène Zubeldia drew the buyers’ attention with her first collection of jewel-dresses. Since 2003, Hélène Zubeldia has devoted her collections to accessories. Since 2003, this Paris-based German milliner expresses her eccentricity with her fun and surprising creations. True twirling sculptures, her creations to be worn by everyone and in any way, wrapped around the head in gracious twists. The name Lumi was inspired by Sanna’s native country, Finland. While traveling to Finland, they happened to visit an old felt factory which inspired them this line of felt bags as white as snow. And "Lumi" is the Finnish for "snow". Lumi creations are meant to be elegant and timeless. But timeless design doesn’t necessarily mean hideous shapes or over-exaggerated minimalism, on the contrary. From the three countries representing their home base, the duo has kept the most important details: the Finnish simplicity and functionality, the French sense of luxury and sensuality, and New York’s energy and vintage touch… Mhann offers a collection of urban and casual leather bags for men. The Fall-Winter 0910 collection will be geometric for both brands: cubic shapes or skillful foldings reminiscent of Japanese origami, all this in dark color shades, as well as warmer tones such as curry, purple, red and olive green. www.lumiaccessories.com 33 VOUELLE STAND 341BIS - FRANCE Après s’être fait un nom dans l’univers de la chaussure de mariage, qu’elle a révolutionné en proposant des modèles à la fois chics, sexy et confortables, Michelle Boor, directrice artistique et co-fondatrice de Vouelle, s’attaque à la ville. After revolutionizing the world of wedding shoes, which she made chic, sexy and comfortable, Michelle Boor, the artistic director and co-founder of the brand Vouelle takes over the city. The art of origami remains an inspiration for Nitin Goyan. Of course, in his collections, paper has been replaced by sumptuous fabrics such as silk, satin or cashmere, sculpted by Nitin Goyan to make voluptuous items to wrap yourself in. All this in bright shades to lighten the winter: cobalt blue, raspberry pink, emerald green and a delightful deep red. www.nitingoyal.com 35 DAVID WYATT STAND 311 - ROYAUME-UNI David Wyatt a commencé par habiller les femmes avant de les chausser. During almost 14 years, his creations walked up and down the catwalks in Paris, Milan, New York and London for several famous brands. He now sells his shoes under his own name. He’d chosen the PREMIERE CLASSE September 08 session to launch his brand in France. He’s back this season with another creative collection inspired by the world of couture he knows so well. This young Spanish designer created her collection after watching famous Parisian black and white pictures by famous photographer Robert Doisneau. Won over and captivated by their elegance, she imagined bags to be worn by the anonymous heroines on these pictures: simple clutches with very sophisticated details. Already there last season, the round shapes are back this winter, especially for the day collection. Its goal: to take a fresh look at fashion accessories. To do so, this German label chose to use traditional materials that were then sublimated. Called Handle with care, the first collection is a series of couture accessories made of porcelain. Chain necklaces in raw porcelain, glacé shirtfronts, enamel and platina collars, matter expresses its noble character, between pureness, delicacy and asserted femininity. The pieces are hand made by the Reinbach manufacture in Germany, the only one capable of highlighting Uncommom Matters’ special concern for details: just look at the very precise silver finishings, fastening each piece and the very exclusive shades. www.uncommonmatters.com 38 YUNJU LEE STAND 369BIS - ROYAUME-UNI Fraîchement émoulu de la Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design, Yunju Lee manie humour et sophistication, avec talent. Un vrai délice… www.yunjulee.com BOOTH 369BIS - UNITED KINGDOM A young graduate of the Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design, Yunju Lee is very talented at mixing humor and sophistication. Nonconformist and rather eccentric, his work appears as a breath of fresh air in the world of exclusive accessories. The starting point for all his creations: small everyday-life mishaps. A brooch in the shape of a ketchup stain to be worn on your tie, small enameled sterling silver black ink stains to pin on your shirt or an indelible lipstick trace set on a solid gold collar. And… last but not least, the «nose jewel» to clip between the nostrils and representing a charming breakfast milk moustache! As vivid as ever, prints multiply the number of unusual confrontations. Already present last season, graphic combinations are everywhere. Designers love playing with defaced genres, with the same attention paid to the quality of materials and colors. This season, Lin Art Project handed the design of their delightful silk scarves to Belgian artist Bue The Warrior, world famous for his friendly monsters and ultra-colorful mural frescos. BOOTH 192BIS - FRANCE To create his stoles and scarves, Jean-Jacques Rogers selects the noblest fabrics: pure silk, wool and silk, cashmere and silk, cashmere mix, mohair and pure cashmere. This season, several influences punctuate the collection: the masculine-feminine style, neo-gothic, Negro art, Empire style and the golden age of couture. He loves stripes and geometric patterns, sometimes in patchwork, but also favors more fun prints like this flight of graphic butterflies. The winter’s key colors: black, khaki, purple, blackcurrant, coral, concrete gray or ivory. After graduating from the prestigious Central Saint-Martin’s School, Jane Carr gained experience with the best designers, starting with Donatella Versace for whom she designed prints during four years. Tulle, lace or feathers are skillfully mixed with more military-like patterns. A fun confrontation available in arctic, khaki and amber shades livened up by dashes of deep purple and red. Feminine as ever, the new season pays a tribute to the 1950s archetypal women: Slim waistlines, curves and sexy starlet-like swaying. An indispensable preliminary to this chic: of course, breathtakingly sexy shoes! BOOTH 309 - FRANCE Alexandra Neel’s models are always a subtle combination of elegance and provocation. «Ankles are the new waistlines to be clasped in corsets, the toe- line suggests a deep cleavage and the arch, the small of the back «. His vocabulary is inspired by lingerie, Riva boats and Andalusia… with, as a guiding principle, a passion for precious details or extreme refinement. Whether 10-centimeter high or seemingly flat, heels remain thin and slender, and this tapering pump figure, a classic among feminine models, with a very low-cut toe-line and light straps, gives way to a true decorative frenzy. Alexandra Neel’s shoes are custom-made for femmes fatales. An authentic shoe architect, this Italian designer loves creating eccentric models. After working for others, he now creates models for his own brand with a genuine pleasure. After graduating from the Toulouse School of Fine Arts and the Paris AFPIC in shoe and leather design, Nathalie Elharrar launched LaRare in 2007. She also designed shoe collections as a freelancer for ready-to-wear brands such as Paule Ka, including the hit of the summer 2007: futuristic Plexiglas wedge shoes. For the coming winter, three main themes are developed: «Red Carpet», with silk satin drapes to be tied for the night. Also, «Tight Me», featuring braided and corseted models. «Lock it» presents the brand’s classic models in calf- sheep- and goat-skin, featuring shoes fastened with a tiny precious nickel-plated lock. Her basic models remain available in Klein blue lamé or red-brown velvet goatskin, but a little spice was also put into the season thanks to elegant boots with saddler stitches, woolen skin low-boots, breathtakingly high and fetishist evening pumps that remind us of her obsession: feminity and elegance. Laurence Dacade defaces lines and volumes by adorning mat boots with scarlet and shimmering cuts, removable belts for a military look or fringes. Nothing remains static; boots are to be worn proudly. These shoes are a promise made to women: by wearing them, they’ll be chic, glamorous, and full of poise at all times. Watches make a spectacular entrance at the Tuileries. Sharp shapes, chrome-plated straps… They are a symbol for fashion inspired by industrial design. As an answer to the prevailing ultra-feminity, the tempered steel look comes as a nice change! L’hiver 09-10 sera placé sous le signe des modèles imposants et de l’acier abondant. www.lip.fr BOOTH 356 - FRANCE 140 years old, mythical brand Lip is a reference in the world of modern watchmaking. A reference that is synonymous with boldness, nonconformism and design. Easily identifiable, the style is unique and fights against the prevailing conventional ideas. Everyone thinks you need two hands and a static face to be able to read the time… «Nonsense!» says Lip. With his Mythic model, he imagined three faces revolving around one static hand! Add a stainless steel case and a chrome-plated bracelet, and you’ll have the best in modern watchmaking. The winter 09-10 will be under the sign of XXL models and excessive steel! www.lip.fr 56 ASCETE STAND 369 - FRANCE Ascète est un studio de création et d’édition créé en 2004 par Pierre Gonalons. Ultra design. www.ascete.com BOOTH 369 - FRANCE Ascète is a creation and edition studio created in 2004 by Pierre Gonalons. For the story: an ascetic tries to approach virtue thanks to determination and privations. Originally, it’s an understanding between the body and the soul. For this brand, it’s all about creating a connection between intention and vision, or even simpler, between ideas and shapes, with special attention paid to material and function. Ascète designs furniture, lamps and accessories, and has chosen PREMIERE CLASSE to present its collection of watches.
