When I was fifteen, sixteen, when I really
started to play the guitar, I definitely wanted
to become a musician. It was almost
impossible because the dream was so big. I
didn’t see any chance because I was living in
a little town; I was studying. And when I
finally broke away from school and became a
musician, I thought, « Well, now I may have a
little bit of a chance, » Because all I really
wanted to do is music – and not only play
music, but compose music.
At that time, in Germany, in ’69-’70, they had
already discotheques. So, I would take my
car, would go to a discotheque and sing
maybe 30 minutes. I think I had about seven,
eight songs. I would partially sleep in the car
because I didn’t want to drive home and that
help me for about almost two years to
survive in the beginning.
I wanted to do an album with the sound of
the ’50s, the sound of the ’60s, of the ’70s
and then have a sound of the future. And I
said, « Wait a second…I know the synthesizer
– why don’t I use the synthesizer which is the
sound of the future? » And I didn’t have any
idea what to do, but I knew I needed a click
so we put a click on the 24 track which then
was synched to the Moog Modular. I knew
that it could be a sound of the future but I
didn’t realise how much the impact it would
be.

calls me Giorgio.

Once you free your mind about a concept of
harmony and music being correct, you can do
whatever you want ! So, nobody told me
what to do, and there was no preconception
of what to do!1

Quand j’avais 15-16 ans, quand j’ai commencé
à jouer de la guitare, j’ai décidé que je voulais
vraiment devenir musicien! C’était presque
impossible car ce rêve était si grand que je
croyais n’avoir aucune chance parce que je
vivais dans une petite ville où j’étais étudiant.
Et quand j’ai finalement arrêté l’école et que
je suis devenu musicien, j’ai pensé : « Là, j’ai
peut être une petite chance ! » car tout ce que
je voulais faire : c’est de la musique mais pas
seulement jouer de la musique mais aussi
composer de la musique !
A cette époque, en Allemagne, en 1969-70, il y
avait déjà des discothèques. Alors, je prenais
ma voiture, j’allais en discothèque, je chantais
à peu près 30 minutes. Je pense que j’avais à
peu près 7 à 8 chansons. Je dormais un peu
dans la voiture car je ne voulais pas conduire
pour rentrer chez moi. Cela m’a aidé à
survivre pendant environ 2 ans au début.
Je voulais faire un album avec le son des
années 50,60 et 70 et avoir aussi un son du
futur et j’ai pensé : « Attends, je connais les
synthétiseurs, pourquoi je n’utiliserais pas les
synthétiseurs qui eux, sont le son du futur ! »
Mais je ne savais pas du tout comment faire,
je savais que j’avais besoin d’un clic alors nous
avons mis un clic sur la piste 24 qui a été
synchronisée avec le Moog Modular. Je savais
que ça pouvait être un son du futur mais je
n’ai pas réalisé la taille de l’impact que ça
allait avoir.
Je m’appelle Giovanni Giorgio mais tout le
monde m’appelle Giorgio.

Une fois que tu as libéré ton esprit sur un
concept d’harmonie et de musique que tu
estimes réussi, tu peux faire ce que tu veux !
Alors personne ne me disait quoi faire et il n’y
avait aucune idée préconçue sur ce qui devait
être fait…
