“Stand as One”
Prayer for the Youth of South Africa is gaining
momentum
The Stand as One project is about to change the South African social
landscape. Less than three months ago two young and vibrant South
Africans decided to roll up their sleeves and become pro-active for God.
Over the last few weeks the project, the brainchild of Andries Hendrik
Potgieter and Sya van der Walt of SyAn Productions, developed into one
of the most exciting initiatives this country’s seen.
Andries Hendrik, together with Huisgenoot Tempo’s Reader’s Choice
Songwriter, Waldo Greeff, wrote a national prayer for the youth of South
Africa. The song is the new anthem for the youth, to be played at all
major national events, such as Youth Day and Heritage Day
celebrations. It serves as a positive injection in these trying times where
young people have to face daily challenges such as poverty,
unemployment and a bleak future. While the song itself cannot change a
person’s circumstances, believing that God’s in control of our future, will
give each and every young person the drive to stand up and make a
difference.
The song, Stand as One, is performed in three languages, English,
Afrikaans and Zulu. Andries Hendrik, well-known gospel singer, Nedine
Blom and the world renowned Soweto Gospel Choir, have been hard at
work to record the anthem. Andries Hendrik and Nedine are also
collaborating with the young Namibian artist, Tiro, to sing the National
Anthem. This will all be available on CD and DVD in more than 400
music stores nationwide from March 2011.
The team is God's ambassadors, performing and ministering on other
platforms such as churches, schools, civil society organization events
and youth meetings. They have already been asked to perform during
next month’s World Festival for Youth and Students in Soweto. The
event brings together more than 30 thousand young people from 153
countries.
The song has no political connotations, however, political parties such as
the Democratic Alliance and the Freedom Front Plus have already
endorsed the project because of its proposed positive effect on youth
development. Other important partners include Solidarity, Afriforum,
Helpende Hand, the National Youth Development Agency, the National
Employers Association of South Africa, the South African Council of
Churches and other churches such as Lede in Christus, Shalom and
Doxa Deo. All of them have agreed to give the project the necessary
platform and exposure to ensure that Stand as One reaches every
corner of the country.
But Stand as One is not only a song, it’s a long-term project aimed at
winning the youth for God. God has given us the task of making
disciples of all nations and this is also the core objective of the Andries
Hendrik Potgieter platform. There are very few young people,
especially young leaders, who take this call by God seriously. Most are
pre-occupied with self-enrichment and day-to-day activities.
Young people are crying out for leaders with integrity and who will
dedicate their lives to the service and betterment of others. The time
has come for young people to stand up and take action.
South Africa is known for its dubious past which include amongst others,
apartheid. Throughout the generations, our forefathers – black and
white – have been blamed for our current circumstances. Apartheid
contributed to poverty, underdevelopment and other social ills on the
part of the black community. White South Africans now has to deal with
issues such as Black Economic Empowerment and Affirmative Action.
However, while it is important never to forget our heritage, it is more
important to understand that it doesn’t determine the success of our
future. We do not need to conform to the practices of our past. We are
mere visitors to this world because we know that our final destination is
heaven. We can take the future into our own hands by realizing that our
culture, heritage and also our future lies in the hands of God.
Andries Hendrik is the last Andries Hendrik Potgieter, the Voortrekker,
who made a valuable contribution not only to our history but also to the
future of the country.
He was the founder of towns such as Potchefstroom, Ohrigstad and also
the co-founder of the Boer Republic, north of the Orange River.
Potgieter was a true Christian and he preached the gospel to black and
white.
Like AH Potgieter, Andries Hendrik wants to be instrumental in breaking
new ground. This will not be in terms of finding new cities and towns,
but by reaching out to unknown territories or communities where there
is a need to hear the word of God.
As a gospel singer, Andries Hendrik, touches lives. His songs, written
and produced by himself, tell about his own journey over the last 30
years. He was addicted to drugs for almost a decade but God released
him from those chains in a split second. Over the last two years he’s
dedicated his life to missionary work in parts of Africa, but he now wants
to minister on home soil.
As a disciple and ambassador of Jesus, Andries Hendrik is testifying
about the amazing work that God has done in his own life. His testimony
serves as an inspiration to thousands of young South Africans who do
not believe in the power of God. He wants to inspire them to take action
and to believe that there is a brighter future.
Andries Hendrik is now working with youth groups such as the DA and
FF Plus Youth, as well as Afriforum Youth, to see how they can join
forces in reaching young people. Well-known writer, Maretha Maartens,
has also agreed to write a book about his life. This book will be a followup to the best seller of 2002, Popcorn, which dealt with the life of drug
addict, Hendrik Rocher. Andries Hendrik and Hendrik will also
collaborate from March next year.
These are just some of the exciting developments unfolding for the
Stand as One project. At the moment the team is preparing to host
their first celebrity and charity golf day at the Cullinan Golf Club. The
event, taking place on 1 December, will give members of the public the
opportunity to enjoy a round of golf and spend the day with some of
their favourite celebrities.
Celebrities such as Giliam Winckler (Glitterati), Nedine Blom (Artist), Andries Hendrik
Potgieter (Artist, Motivational Speaker and Spokesperson for Stand as One), Sya van der
Walt (SABC Journalist), Reinhardt Hugo (Actor and Artist – Binnelanders – Adam, Boy
band as seen on Tonge Los), Hugo Ludik (Adam, Boy band as seen on Tongle Los),
Melanie (Artist), as well as sport stars and artists will attend the event.
