Press release
PIASA to celebrate Jean Prouvé & Charlotte Perriand at Sale of the Jean-François
Declercq Collection – Tuesday 27 May 2014 at 6pm
It is over 15 years since Belgian entrepreneur Jean-François Declercq succumbed to a
passion for Design. Personal encounters, exhibitions and avid reading have helped him
become a specialist connoisseur of the period – constantly on the look-out for iconic
works by his favourite artists (Charlotte Perriand, Jean Prouvé and Pierre Jeanneret).
Now Declercq is parting with nearly 90 pieces from this important collection, which
bears witness to the historic and intellectual creativity of French post-war Design and had
been on display in the Constructivist house-cum-studio built for sculptor Oscar Jespers
in Brussels by Victor Bourgeois in 1928.

One of the most outstanding lots is Charlotte Perriand’s Mexique bookcase (est. €70,00090,000), designed in 1952 for student rooms in the House of Mexico at the Cité Unversitaire
in Paris. The bookcase represents the pinnacle of Perriand’s research on shelving: her
invention of compartmentalized modules with metal sides represented an important step
in the history of Design.

Mise en scène Luis Laplace Luis Laplace was born and educated in Buenos Aires.
He graduated from the Universidad de Belgrano with
a Bachelor and Master’s Degree in Architecture &
Urbanism.
After successfully completing an high-end project
in Mallorca, Luis decided to open with his partner
Christophe Comoy his own practice based in Paris, in
order to be closer to his European clients and benefit
from the city’s proximity and access to international
events, art galleries, materials and traditional artisan
skills.
Founded 10 years ago, the studio Laplace specializes in a design that focuses on
contemporary art. Laplace’s ability to create distinctly modern yet intimate architecture
and interior design attracts a loyal clientele, particularly artists, gallery owners, and
art collector including Hauser & Wirth in London or Emmanuel Perrotin and Cindy
Sherman in Paris.

After a short period working in Argentina, Luis moved
to New York where, from 1999 to 2004, he worked for
Selldorf Architects, specializing in architecture for artrelated projects.
Laplace works internationally, offering a full design service based on a large expertise in
commercial and residential work.
The work assembles eras, past and present, creating both private and public spaces
which possess the power to unleash atmospheres of timeless elegance with strong impact
counterpoised by contemporary elements.
Over the years, Laplace has made itself known by its refined, high quality work. Inspired
by both South American modernism and the brutalist movement, Luis Laplace likes to
mix French sophistication with exclusive vintage. Through good use of space and light,
basing his design on local cultures and traditions, choice of materials and a special passion
for art and craftsmanship, Luis Laplace combines modern simplicity with great elegance.
Interior architecture and design according to Laplace, are far from fashion and trends but
synonymous to timelessness, beauty and subtle luxury.
