Message from the President, Ottawa Division
Greetings all:
On behalf of the Ottawa Division, and our 2014 Organizing Committee, please accept my
invitation to come and join us from June 5-8 at “Rendez-Vous Ottawa 2014”! Under the
able leadership of Bill Lenton and his team, we are well on the way to preparing a unique
agenda for you and those travelling with you. Make a point of gathering friends from
within your own division - come one, come all.
There is no better opportunity to connect and re-connect with those you've served with
across this great country. For many of you, Ottawa is a place that will hold its own
memories from earlier postings. For those of you who fashion yourselves fortunate to
have missed or evaded a tour through National Headquarters, you have yet to discover
the magic of the National Capital Region.
Regardless of how long you have been a member of the Vets, if you have yet to
experience a Convention and an Annual General Meeting (AGM), I can assure you that
there are new friends and acquaintances to be made. And notwithstanding the social
aspect of the AGM, you may just find the workings of the business agenda sufficiently
compelling to get you thinking about taking a more active role in either local or national
affairs of the Association!
You will see from our “Rendez-Vous Ottawa 2014” messaging that we are clearly focused
on the raison d'être of the Association which underscores the importance of friendship,
support and connectedness. Do your part, register now! I look forward to seeing you
here in Ottawa.
Best regards,
Graham Muir,
President, Ottawa Division

Message from Chair,
Convention and Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2014
Greetings:
My team and I are really looking forward to welcoming you to the Convention and
Annual General Meeting (AGM) “Rendez-Vous Ottawa 2014”. It was important for us
to adopt a theme that would capture the essence of the RCMP Veterans’ Association;
we are proud to promote “Friendship. Support. Stay Connected!” On the next page of
this information package, you will be able to gain more insight on the composition of
our theme.
One key objective for us was to move forward with the Annual General Meeting
(AGM) model and offer you a “conference- style approach”. Our Friday morning
program, once finalized, will have an exciting series of presentations on issues that
are of interest to Veterans, families and guests. Of course, all attendees are
encouraged to take advantage of these informative sessions.
For the AGM, there is significant business to be done, especially this year. The new
Canada Not-For-Profit Corporations Act legislation will have a significant impact on
our way of doing business and is coming into effect soon. A resolution will be
introduced to adopt the required Articles and revised by-laws.
On Sunday, the Ottawa Division will be proud to showcase its cornerstone project –
the RCMP National Memorial Cemetery at Beechwood. This is an example of what
can be done by RCMP Veterans when they take charge of a vision. The Beechwood
Centre is ideal for our Sunday service while the beautiful grounds offer a magnificent
setting.
Of course, throughout we hope you spend time with friends, reminisce, make new
friends and enjoy the beautiful city of Ottawa.
We hope you come away with a sense of empowerment, collegiality and inspiration.
Bill Lenton, Chair
Rendez-Vous Ottawa 2014

Welcome to the website of the 2014 AGM – June 5 to 8
Friendship. Support. Stay Connected!
OUR THEME:
Friendship - one of the
underpinning concepts of
our event but, more
importantly, of the overall
Association.
Support - as an
Association we willingly
provide support – even
beyond and besides
friendship. This is
particularly true for
surviving spouses who may
not see themselves initially
as “friends” but will
unequivocally receive
support.
We can’t wait to welcome you to Ottawa, Canada’s capital,
and to offer you an exciting program of activities. June is a
beautiful time to be in Ottawa. The average weather is 24
degrees. Along with many historic buildings and museums,
the city offers you great scenery with the Rideau Canal and
many parks located in the downtown core. Browse on line
the Ottawa tourism website to view the video
Stay connected - the
Association is a vehicle by
which retired and retiring
members can maintain
those valuable connections
made during their career
association with the RCMP.
The dots – are indicative of
today’s electronic
communications and the
ease with which we can in
fact remain supportive and
connected friends even
over long distances – again
a reality for many retired
and retiring members.

Silent Auction
In conjunction with “Rendez-Vous Ottawa 2014” being held June 5th to 8th, we are holding a
“silent auction” to help defray some of the costs. As members of the Ottawa Division, you can
support this worthwhile and entertaining initiative by either donating an item of quality or by
seeking donations from businesses that you or the Association does business with regularly.
We have also requested voluntary donations from the other Veterans’ Divisions. It would be
helpful to be provided with a retail value of the item donated as well as a suggested amount for
minimum bids. The Committee will screen donations to ensure quality control.
Donations for the auction can be dropped off at the auction coordinator’s residence indicated
below after May 1st. Please make arrangements with Marc in advance and do not hesitate to
contact him if you have any questions. Those from outside Ottawa can advise Marc if they will
bring their items or if they will ship them. Again, please make arrangements with Marc to
arrange for pick-up of the items once in Ottawa.
