ELIN EBG Traction GmbH (Ltd.) has been certified acc. to IRIS successfully
In the course of the UITP World Congress and Mobility and City Transport
Exhibition, Quality Austria handed the IRIS Certificate over to ELIN EBG
Traction GmbH. IRIS (International Railway Industry Standard) is a world-wide
standard for increasing quality in rail vehicle industry. Thus the provider of
traction vehicles for public transport is a pioneer in Austria.
ELIN EBG Traction Gmbh, a 100% subsidiary of Siemens AG Austria, is the first Austrian
company to successfully complete certification with full system competence for driving
and control systems for traction vehicles. “ELIN EBG Traction GmbH has clearly
positioned itself as a future focused company by means of the certification. Thanks to
IRIS certification, ELIN EBG Traction GmbH is a pioneer on the market,” informs Axel
Dick, Head of Business Development of Quality Austria. ELIN EBG Traction GmbH has
already been certified acc. to ISO 9001 by Quality Austria for 15 years.
The preparations for the complex requirements of certification started as early as March
2008. Before this, all the processes had been analyzed systematically, and the
supplements for IRIS certification had been incorporated. The audit took place in May
2009. “Thanks to IRIS certification, we are optimally prepared for meeting the high
requirements placed by our customers. It underlines the reliability of our products,” says
Gerhard Skorepa, Managing Director of ELIN EBG Traction GmbH.
The abbreviation IRIS denotes a quality management model specially tailored to railway
industry and the subsuppliers. The objective of IRIS is to avoid potential defects,
nonconformities and delays throughout the supply chain, to reduce costs and increase
reliability. IRIS builds upon ISO 9001. However, it goes far beyond ISO 9001 and
strongly intervenes in the purchasing process. IRIS also considers the special
requirements resulting from the rail specific life cycle of more than 30 years. All over the
world, there currently are about 250 companies that have an IRIS Certificate. In Austria,
there are still fewer than ten.
