WRITING PA RAG RA PHS Paragraphs (Absätze) sind die Bausteine jedes Textes. Daher solltest du – ganz egal, welche Textsorte du verfasst – immer besonderes Augenmerk auf gut durchdachte paragraphs legen. Damit dir das auch gelingt, werden hier ein paar wichtige Richtlinien zusammengefasst. O Unterteile jeden Aufsatz immer in sinnvolle paragraphs. O Sammle zunächst deine Gedanken in Stichwortform. O Sortiere sodann deine Ideen, Argumente und Beispiele immer, bevor du überhaupt zu schreiben beginnst. O V ersuche deine paragraphs durch geeignete link words and phrases (Verbindungswörter, Überleitungen) zu verbinden, damit dein Text ein zusammenhängendes Ganzes wird (siehe Seite 152). O A uch die introduction (Einleitung) und die conclusion (Schlussfolgerung) deines essays (Aufsatzes) sollten als paragraphs erkennbar sein und zum einen auf das Thema hinführen bzw. zum anderen vorher Gesagtes zusammenfassen und abrunden. Oft ist es leichter, eine treffende introduction erst ganz am Schluss zu formulieren, wenn dein Text bereits fertig vorliegt. A uch vom Schriftbild her sollten paragraphs auf den ersten Blick erkennbar sein – am besten durch leichtes Einrücken der ersten Zeile. O B emühe dich auch um die richtige punctuation und denke daran, dass es neben Punkt und Beistrich auch noch Strichpunkt, Bindestrich, Ausrufungszeichen und Doppelpunkt gibt. Diese Satzzeichen können deinem Text noch mehr Zusammenhalt und auch Dramatik verleihen, wenn du sie geschickt einsetzt. O Innerhalb eines paragraphs spielt auch noch der opening sentence (erste Satz) eine wichtige Rolle. So wie die introduction das Gesamtthema der Aufgabenstellung umreißt, sollte der opening sentence des paragraphs auf den Inhalt desselben verweisen. Ein möglicher Aufbau eines paragraphs könnte zum Beispiel so aussehen: sentence 1: opening/topic sentence sentence 2: illustrations sentence 3: examples of illustrations sentence 4: illustration sentence 5: result of illustrations FO RM A L AN D INF O RM A L LA N G UAG E Je nachdem, welche Art von Text du verfasst, musst du auch auf die Wahl der passenden Sprache achten. So verlangen etwa Berichte und Beschwerdebriefe eine sehr formelle Sprache, während persönliche Briefe oder Notizen in einem informellen Stil geschrieben werden. Adresse (nicht der Name!) des Absenders Telefonnummer Name, Titel/Position des Adressaten (im Zweifelsfall: The Manager) Firmenname Adresse Datum (1) Dear Sir or Madam, (2) Dear Mr/Mrs/Miss/Ms Smith, Briefinhalt Introduction: Halte deine Einleitung kurz (1–2 Sätze) und erwähne den Grund deines Schreibens. O Body of letter: Lies dir die Aufgabenstellung genau durch, denn du musst in deinem Brief auf alle angeführten Punkte eingehen. Zähle deine Argumente in logischer Reihenfolge auf und verbinde sie durch entsprechende link words. Achte darauf, deinen Text in passende paragraphs zu unterteilen. Erkläre, was du dir als Reaktion auf deinen Brief erwartest. O Conclusion: Beende deinen Brief mit einer höflichen Floskel, die deine Vorfreude oder Erwartungshaltung auf die Antwort oder Reaktion auf dein Schreiben ausdrückt.
