Die Filmreihe zum Thema Nachhaltigkeit
Nachhaltiges Handeln bedeutet, künftigen Generationen gleichwertige Lebensvoraussetzungen zu hinterlassen, wie wir sie selber für unser
Leben zur Verfügung haben. Der ursprünglich
von Hans Carl von Carlowitz forstwirtschaftlich
auf den Holzeinschlag bezogene Begriff umfasst
heute den Dreiklang aus Respekt und Schutz der
Umwelt, sozialer Gerechtigkeit und maßvoller
Prosperität.
Überall auf der Welt wird dieses Denkprinzip
verletzt. Filme, die dies thematisieren gibt es
seit vielen Jahren, von Actionkino wie „Day
after Tomorrow“ von Roland Emmerich bis hin
zu großartigen Naturdokumentationen. Die
Reihe GREEN HORIZONS umfasst 5 Filme zum
Thema Nachhaltigkeit, wie zum Beispiel zu den
Themen Textilindustrie, Klimawandel und Nahrungsmittelproduktion und zeigt dabei sowohl,
wie Umweltschutz und soziale Gerechtigkeit mit
Füßen getreten werden als auch mutmachende
Ansätze und Aktivitäten aus verschiedenen
Ländern. Ebenfalls Bestandteil der Reihe ist ein
Panel am 6. November um 17:00 Uhr im Kongresssaal der IHK. Nach Filmausschnitten zum
Thema diskutieren Filmschaffende, Bildungsvermittler und Studierende mit dem Publikum
zur Frage „Was kann die Kunstform Film als
Beitrag zur nachhaltigen Entwicklung leisten?“
Sustainable action means to leave future generations with equivalent preconditions of life, such as
they are to our disposal. Originated by Hans Carl
von Carlowitz as a convention for forestry, nowadays, sustainability revolves around the principles
of respect for and the protection of the environment in addition to social justice and modest
prosperity.
All over the world, these principles are violated.
Movies who broach the issue are around for many
years: From action movies like “Day after Tomorrow” by Roland Emmerich to grand nature documentaries. The series GREEN HORIZONS includes 5
movies about sustainability dealing with topics
like: textile industry, climate change and food
production. It shows how ­environmentalism and
social justice are spurned as well as encouraging
approaches and activities in different countries.
Additionally, as a part of the series, there will be a
panel on November 6th at 5 p.m. at the congress
hall of the IHK (Chamber of Industry and Commerce). After watching movie excerpts, filmmakers, educators and students debate with the
audience on the question: “What can the art form
movie contribute to a development towards sustainability?”

Dem britischen Doku-Drama mit Pete
Postlethwaite als Archivar menschlicher
Hinterlassenschaften im Jahr 2055 gelingt das
Unmögliche: Die mit menschlichen Zeitmaßstäben kaum wahrnehmbare Klimakatastrophe so
darzustellen, dass sie ähnliche Beklemmungen
hervor ruft wie andere Umweltkatastrophen.
Faszinierend und erschreckend zugleich
komponiert der Film nahezu ausschließlich
vorhandenes dokumentarisches Material aus
der Gegenwart. Die Premiere fand 2009 in
einem PV-versorgten Zelt in London statt und
hatte rund 1 % des CO²-Ausstoßes einer üblichen
großen Filmpremiere. Die N.Y. Times beschrieb
den Film als ernster und aufrührender als Al
Gores Eine Unbequeme Warheit und reich an
Galgenhumor.
The British doc drama with Pete Postlethwaite as
archivist of human legacies in 2055 manages the
impossible: to depict the climate catastrophe,
hardly perceivable by human time-criteria, such
that it evokes similar anxieties as to other environmental catastrophes. Fascinating but also alarming, the film makes almost exclusive use of
available documentary material from the present.
The premiere took place in 2009 in a PV-powered
tent in London and had only 1 % of the CO² emission of a usual big film premiere. The N.Y. Times
described the film as more serious and agitating
than Al Gore’s ”An Inconvenient Truth” and is rich
in black humour.

Die Dokumentation beleuchtet die Situation der
Honigbiene, erläutert Lösungsansätze gegen
das Bienensterben und gibt einen Überblick
über die weitestgehend unbekannte Vielfalt
an Bienenarten. Dabei überzeugt der Film vor
allem durch seine atemberaubenden Naturaufnahmen, denen es gelingt, das Leben der
Bienen überaus detailreich und dynamisch einzufangen. In Deutschland lief die österreichische
Koproduktion mit der renommierten Smithsonian Institution bereits auf Naturfilmfestivals in
Eckernförde und Ludwigsburg.
A third of our fruit is pollinated by honey bees, at
the same time the worldwide population has collapsed by a third, presumably through the Varroa
mite. The documentation illustrates the situation
of the honey bee, explains possible solutions to bee
mortality and gives an overview of the largely
unknown variety of bee species. In so doing, the
film convinces above all with its breathtaking
nature shots with which it succeeds in capturing
the lives of bees both in detail and dynamically. In
Germany the Austrian co-production with the
Smithsonian Institution was already shown at
nature film festivals in Eckernförde and Ludwigsburg.

Die ehemalige FBI-Agentin Sarah Moss (Brit

in deren Abläufe eingebunden ist, desto mehr
beginnt sie ihre eigenen Moralvorstellungen
und den Sinn ihres Auftrags zu hinterfragen.
Der Thriller aus dem Jahr 2013, für den Ridley
Scott als Produzent verantwortlich zeichnete,
verwebt auf intelligente Weise ernste Themen
wie Umweltdelikte und Ökoterrorismus mit
spannendem Actionkino. Im Zuge seiner Festivalscreenings machte sich der Film schnell für
besonders lebhafte Q&As nach dem Film einen
Namen.
The former FBI-agent Sarah Moss (Brit Marling) is
instructed by her new employer, a private security
service provider, to infiltrate the anarchistic underground organization “The East”. The deeper she
becomes involved in its procedures, the more she
begins to question her own moral ideas and the
meaning of her assignment. The thriller from 2013,
for which Ridley Scott was responsible as producer,
interweaves serious themes like environmental
crimes and eco-terrorism with exciting action
cinema in an intelligent way. In the course of its
festival screenings, the film quickly made a name
for itself because of the lively Q&A’s after the film
showing.

A FOOD WASTE STORY wirft einen umfassenden
Blick auf das Thema Nahrungsmittel von der
Produktion bis in die Haushalte. Nicht zuletzt
die unterhaltsame und persönliche Herangehensweise der Protagonisten Jen und Grant
machte die kanadische Produktion aus dem Jahr
2014 zum mehrfachen Festivalgewinner, unter
anderem in Calgary, Vancouver und Edmonton.
We all love to eat – cooking shows can be found on
almost every channel, recipe recommendations,
cook books and supplements on food themes are
integral parts of the print media, different diets
are discussed on- and offline – and despite this,
around 50 % of our foodstuffs land in the garbage
bin. The documentation JUST EAT IT takes a comprehensive look at the issue of foodstuffs from the
production right into the households. It was not
least the entertaining and personal approach of
the protaganists, Jen and Grant, that made the
Canadian production from 2014 a multiple winner
at the festivals, among others at Calgary, Vancouver and Edmonton.
