Dear Friends,
2004 was the year of the ninth International Shoulder Conference in Washington and the SECEC did not
have an open meeting.
In 2005 we will move to the incredible and marvellous town that is Rome for our 19 th annual meeting.
We can trust in the Conference President, Franco Postacchini, to organise a social program as captivating
as any high level scientific meeting.
The congress will take place in the Cavalieri Hilton Hotel, well known for its high level of services. As with
the previous congress of our Society, there will not be a parallel session and all oral presentations will be
made in the presence of all the participants that we hope numerous. Two symposia and nine instructional
courses are planned in addition to the scientific presentation in order to maintain a high level of education
given to young surgeons, and also for more experienced surgeons who remain interested in the shoulder
and elbow. The SECEC guest speaker will be Dr. Tom Norris, ASES past president of our Sister American
Society.

I would like to thank all the members of the Society for selecting Rome as the site of the 2005 Congress
of the SECEC ESSSE.
I hope that Rome and the Local Organizing Committee will respond adequately to the expectations of the
Society to have a meeting remaining in the memory of all attendants for both the scientific and social
programme. The scientific programme will include nine instructional courses dealing with crucial topics of
our subspecialty and two symposia, focused respectively rotator cuff diseases and the reverse prosthesis.
However, the core of the meeting will be represented by the papers selected by the Scientific Committee
among the abstracts, sent by members and non-members, to be presented from the podium or as posters.
Since the scientific value of a Congress depends mostly on these papers, which represent the novelties of
the scientific research, as many good papers as possible are kindly invited, because excellent presentations
can easily be selected from a large number of abstracts.
Large spaces are available for exhibition and I hope that numerous industries will attend the meeting to
present their new products. The social programme includes a welcome reception in the outstanding
Cavalieri Hilton hotel and a private visit to the Sistine Chapel; the gala dinner will probably be held in a 13century hospital, renovated and opened to social events. I am looking forward to a very successful meeting
and I’m sure that you will be proud to have attended an unforgettable Congress in a unique city.

SCIENTIFIC INFORMAT I O N
Call for Abstracts
All participants are invited to present their new research findings or important ongoing research by submitting
abstracts for presentation at the 19Th Congress of the European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and Elbow.
Abstracts must contain original material, neither published nor presented elsewhere.
The Scientific Committee will select the texts received into oral or poster presentations on scientific merit.
The deadline for abstract submission is March 31, 2005.
Abstracts received after this date, or incorrectly drawn up, will not be accepted.
Please note that for each abstract accepted, the registration fee of at least one of the Authors is required.
Abstracts must be presented in English or French.
The original abstract will be reproduced directly from the typescript exactly as it is received, so there can
be no subsequent alterations.

Chers Amis,
L’année 2004 a été l’année de la 9ème Conférence Internationale de l’épaule à Washington et la SECEC n’a
pas eu de congrès ouvert.
En 2005, nous nous déplaçons dans cette ville incroyable et merveilleuse qu’est Rome pour notre 19ème
congrès annuel.
On peut faire confiance au Président du Congrès, Franco Postacchini, pour nous recevoir dans les meilleurs
conditions et pour organiser un programme social aussi captivant qu’un congrès de haut niveau
scientifique.
Le Congrès aura lieu à l’hôtel Cavalieri Hilton, très connu pour le très haut niveau des prestations offertes.
Comme lors des précédents congrès de notre Société, il n’y aura pas de session parallèle et toutes les
communications orales se feront en présence de tous les participants que nous espérons nombreux.
Deux Symposia et neuf Conférences d’enseignement sont prévus en plus des communications orales pour
maintenir à un haut niveau l’enseignement donné aux jeunes et aux moins jeunes qui se passionnent pour
la chirurgie de l’épaule et du coude.
L’invité officiel de la SECEC sera le Docteur Tom Norris, ancien Président de l’ASES, notre société sœur
aux Etats Unis.

Je voudrais remercier tous les membres de la Société pour avoir choisi Rome comme destination pour le
Congrès 2005 de la SECEC ESSSE. J’espère qu’aussi bien la ville que le Comité Organisateur Local
répondront aux attentes de la Société et feront que ce congrès reste gravé dans la mémoire des
participants de par le niveau de son programme scientifique et social. Le programme scientifique
comprendra 9 cours sur les sujets fondamentaux de notre sous-spécialité et 2 symposia, respectivement
sur les maladies de la Coiffe des rotateurs et sur le rejet des prothèses.
Cependant, le point fort de la manifestation reposera sur les travaux soumis par les Membres et Non
Membres sélectionnés par le Comité Scientifique pour une présentation orale ou poster.
Comme la valeur scientifique du congrès dépend en grande partie de ces présentations visant à exposer
les avancées de la recherche scientifique, nous vous invitons tous à soumettre des papiers; les meilleurs
d’entre eux seront sélectionnés.
D’importants espaces d’exposition sont disponibles et j’espère qu’un grand nombre de sociétés
participeront à la manifestation afin de présenter leurs nouveaux produits.
Le programme social comprend un cocktail de bienvenue dans le prestigieux Hotel Cavalieri Hilton et une
visite privée à la Chapelle Sixtine; le dîner de gala se tiendra très probablement dans un hôpital du 13ème
siècle, rénové et aménagé pour accueillir de tels évènements.
J’espère que cette réunion connaitra un large succés et je suis convaincu que vous serez fier d’avoir
participé à un congrès inoubliable dans un cadre unique.
