During the congress two exhibitions dedicated to butterflies and moths will be
arranged: a competition of natural history illustrations and a photographic one
(only prints can be accepted). The winner of the former will receive a reprint copy
of Albertus Seba’s Cabinet of Natural Curiosities kindly offered by Taschen
Books. Contacts with companies of photographic products are ongoing for getting a
digital camera as a prize for the second competition. The competitions are open to
everybody. Participants are welcome!

Schmetterlinge und Nachtfalter veranstaltet: jeweils ein Wettbewerb
naturkundlicher Illustrationen und Photographien (es können nur Fotos auf Papier
akzeptiert werden). Der Gewinner bei den Illustrationen erhält einen
freundlicherweise von Taschen Books gestifteten Nachdruck von Albertus Seba’s
Cabinet of Natural Curiosities. Wegen eines Preises (Digitalkamera!) für den
Gewinner bei den Photographien wird noch mit Herstellern von Photoartikeln
verhandelt. Die Wettbewerbe stehen jedermann offen. Teilnehmer sind

2005 Joint Meeting of the Lepidopterist’s Society,
Southeastern Arizona Chapter of NABA, and the
Pacific Slope Section of the Lepidopterists’
Society—Sierra Vista, Arizona, August 2-7, 2005
The “sky islands” of southeastern Arizona with their unbelievable rich insect
fauna beckon! It is now time to begin the registration process for the joint meeting
of the societies at the Windemere Hotel and Conference Center in Sierra Vista
Arizona. The meeting will be one day longer than the usual Lepidopterists’ Society
meeting and will be comprised of scheduled events to peak the interest of all
parties. We invite all persons interested in any aspect of Lepidoptera appreciation
and study to attend.
The tentative schedule includes separate field trips for watchers/photographers
and collectors on August 2nd and 3rd as well as at least one trip for dragonfly
aficianados; reception and slide-fest on August 3rd, presentations and workshops
from August 4th through morning of August 7th, mothing field trip on August 4th,
authors’ book signing and silent auction as well as barbecue on August 5th, banquet
on August 6th, and business meeting on August 7th. Note that the number of
participants will be limited on each field trip—first come—first served! Sign up
early!
Invited speakers who have agreed to participate include Fred Heath, Ken
Kauffman, and Robert Pyle. Several other excellent speakers have given us
provisional consent.
Registration information is now available either on the Lepidopterists’ Society
web site, Lepidopterists’ News, SEABA Newsletter, and various list serves. Those
planning to attend may make room reservations now and we do recommend making
them as soon as is possible. A block rooms is reserved for attendees. Please
mention that you will be attending the meeting in order to receive the negotiated
rate of $69 + tax single/double [$10 each for 3rd and 4th person in a room]. Those
who stay at the Windemere may take advantage of a full buffet breakfast, happy
hour, and athletic club. The toll-free number for the Windemere is 1-800-825-4656.
We probably already have a sufficient number of symposia. Persons interested

Plans have been made for a post-meeting trip to Sonora, Mexico and a serious
mothing trip to the Baboquivari Mountains.

SEL ist gemäß Freistellungsbescheid des Finanzamtes Karlsruhe-Stadt vom
14.06.2004, Az. 35022/74235 SG: 03/03, als gemeinnützigen Zwecken dienend
und wissenschaftliche Zwecke fördernd anerkannt. Die Mitgliedsbeiträge sind nach
§ 10 b EStG wie Spenden abziehbar. Alle Mitglieder, die ihren Beitrag und ggf.
Spenden vor dem 15. Februar d. J. überweisen bzw. SEL ermächtigt haben, ihren
Beitrag einzuziehen, erhalten im laufenden Jahr automatisch ihre
Zuwendungsbestätigung für das Finanzamt.
