The anatomic shape of the DRUFOSOFT®-Shell ensures an excellent fitting and shock absorption. Only one thermoforming process with vacuum or pressure is necessary. Wichtige Hinweise: 6 The protection in the mouth resp. facial area has been improved considerably by individually manufactured Mouthguards. Not only are injuries of teeth, gingiva and jaw joints extremely painful, they also can only be taken care of by means of a complicated and extensive prosthetic provision. Adolescents are especially endangered by fashion sports as mountain-biking, roller-skating, etc. Most of them wear helmet and knee protectors, but neglect the Mouthguard. Deutsch ® DRUFOSOFT -SHELL-TECHNIQUE English ® DRUFOSOFT -SHELL-TECHNIK This high-quality Mouthguard can be fabricated within a short period of time and without having to use a complicated method of production. As the DRUFOSOFT®-Shell is shaped anatomically and the material is thicker in the decisive areas, a lamination with a second foil is not necessary. After the thermo-forming process the Mouthguard has a thickness of 3,5-4 mm at the anterior teeth – the decisive area. The Shell-Mouthguard is a favourable alternative / completion to laminated Mouthguards and especially recommendable for children and adolescents (dentition, price). - controlled adaptation by the dentist - individually manufactured in the dental laboratory - special safety characteristics - perfect fitting, no speech impact - available in many colours 7 ® DRUFOSOFT -SHELL-TECHNIQUE Backgrounds: Production: - Injuries of teeth, gingiva and jaw joints are extremely painful. - Adolescents are especially endangered (mountainbiking, roller-skating, etc.). - Most youths wear a helmet and knee protectors, however, the Mouthguard also belongs to protection equipment! - Already in 1964 the protective effect on the head was recognised (reduction of concussions). Preparatory steps: - Trim the plaster model up to the mucolabial fold and open the palate completely. Finally insulate the model. English ® DRUFOSOFT -SHELL-TECHNIQUE - Take the shell out of the water and heat up all inner areas additionally with a hot flame. It is ready for adaptation as soon as the surface becomes shiny and slightly uneven. Advantages of the DRUFOSOFT®-Shell: - anatomic shape - impact zone in the front - only one thermo-forming process necessary - after thermo-forming in the front area 4 mm - biocompatible EVA-material - treatment of edges is restricted to a minimum - nearly no waste - time effort only 15 minutes Shell-forming: - Put the shell for 60 seconds into a hot water bath of 75 – 80 °C for heating up. - Put the shell carefully onto the prepared model according to its anatomical shape and place it altogether into the thermoforming unit. Preconditions: 1. UJ impression of the patient situation, ideally also impression of LJ. 2. Vacuum resp. pressure thermo-forming unit (e. g. VACFOMAT-U). 3. SHELL-FORMER: Forming aid on the basis of highly flexible, thin latex foils for the exact adaptation of the shell onto the plaster model. 8 4. DRUFOSOFT®-Shells: Pre-formed Mouthguard blanks on the basis of the well-proven EVA-material which can be adapted universally to every patient’s jaw. 5. For further treatment: Scissors, grinding caps and FINISHING LIQUID New Formula for the final polishing. - Put the SHELL-FORMER into the plate and foil reception and fix it. 9 ® DRUFOSOFT -SHELL-TECHNIQUE English ® DRUFOSOFT -SHELL-TECHNIQUE Final treatment: - Turn on the vacuum pump and close the vacuum area with the SHELL-FORMER over the model. The suction of the vacuum pump and the high elasticity of the latex foil press the shell quickly and exactly fitting onto the model below. - To ensure the exactitude further it is possible to press with a finger on the latex foil and to exert further pressure on the shell. - Let the shell cool down under the activated vacuum for at least 3 min., then take it out of the unit and leave it on the model until it has cooled down to room temperature. This process may be accelerated by putting it into a cold water bath. - Remove shell from the model carefully. The following rules have to be observed: 10 - Finally all roughened areas have to be homogenised and polished with FINISHING LIQUID New Formula. If a counter bite is available, an occlusive bite plateau should be ground into the Mouthguard. The resulting occlusivevestibule wall additionally protects the cutting edges and the cusps of the LJ teeth. However, the thickness of the material must not remain under 2.5 mm due to safety reasons. Important advice: Final treatment: - For a better control the edges of the Mouthguard should be sketched on the shell. - Smoothen the surfaces and the cut areas with e. g. ULTRATRIMM medium. - There has to be a vestibule distance of approx. 2 mm towards the mucolabial fold with enough space for all labial frenulums and the muscle frenulum. - Palatinal approx. 6-8 mm towards the gingival margin. - Distally the Mouthguard ends behind the first molar. - The final shape of the Mouthguard is then cut out of the shell with scissors according to the sketches. - Of course, the DRUFOSOFT®SHELL-TECHNIQUE may be carried out with the same steps of production with every pressure-forming unit. - The DRUFOSOFT®-SHELLTECHNIQUE is for the above mentioned field of application only and is only to be carried out by qualified and instructed personnel.
