Milkwood Irish Wolfhounds
Ich wurde in eine Hundeliebhaber Familie hinein geboren. Mit sechs Jahren sollte ich meinen ersten eigenen Hund
bekommen. Ich wünschte mir einen Irish Wolfhound. Wie vorher gesehen, war die Antwort nein und man empfahl
mir einen etwas kleineren Hund auszuwählen. Also erwählte ich mir einen Afghanen und damit begann eine lange
Verbindung zu dieser wunderschönen aber sehr schwierig zu handhabenden Kreatur. Es ist wohl unnötig zu
erwähnen, dass man für jeden einzelnen Afghanen den man hält sich sechs Irish Wolfhounds halten kann und
trotzdem ist alles einfacher.
Wie auch immer, ich verlor nie mein Interesse am Irish Wolfhound und Jahre später im Jahr 1979 wurde ich stolzer
Besitzer meiner ersten Irish Wolfhound Hündin, mit der ich auch meine Zucht begann, „Ch. Finloren Hester of
Yansukhim“ (Erindale Triston x Sanctuary Sweet Erin). Es war der Beginn einer bis heute andauernden Liebe zu
dieser Rasse.
Mit meinem ersten Wurf von Hester gründete ich meinen Zwinger „Milkwood“ und bin seit dem über 30 Jahren in
die Irish Wolfhound Zucht involviert. Ich mache nicht oft einen Wurf und habe nie sehr viele Hunde auf einmal
gehalten. Ich betrachte sie als meine Freunde und sie leben alle mit mir in einem Rudel in meinem Haus. So kann
ich mit Stolz sagen, dass ich aus einer geringen Anzahl von Hunden bisher drei Champions, „Ch. Milkwood Miss
Pegotty O´Yansukhim“, „Milkwood´s Matti Richards“ und derzeit „Milkwood´s Me Myself I” und einige andere
Preise gewinnende Hunde gezüchtet habe.
Über die Jahre musste ich immer meine Liebe zu der Rasse und meinen
Beruf in Einklang bringen, was manchmal sehr schwierig ist, wenn man
einen Wurf machen möchte oder ausstellen will.
Derzeit nehme ich mir mehr Zeit der Rasse etwas zurück zu geben. Bin im
Vorstand der Irish Wolfhound Society und Kassierer in der Irish Wolfhound
Health Group (IWHG). Ich bin ebenfalls im Vorstand des South Eastern
Hound Club und Vorsitzende der Guildford and District Dog Show Society.
Ich engagiere mich für die Gesundheit und Langlebigkeit der Rasse und
der Notwendigkeit, junge Züchter und Besitzer der Rasse zu unterstützen,
denn sie sind die künftigen Hüter unserer Rasse.

Ehre und ich freue Sie alle und Ihre Hunde zu treffen.
I was born into a family of dog lovers. When I was six I was allowed to choose my very own dog, so I asked for an
Irish Wolfhound. Predictably, the answer was ‘no’ and I was told to choose something smaller, so I chose an
Afghan Hound and there began a long association these most beautiful, but very high maintenance creatures. It is
not an exaggeration to say that for every afghan we ever owned, we could have had six Irish Wolfhounds and life
would have been easier!
However, I never lost my longing for an Irish Wolfhound and it was several years later in 1979 when I eventually
became the very proud owner of my first and foundation bitch, who went on to become Ch Finloren Hester of
Yansukhim, (Ch Erindale Triston x Sanctuary Sweet Erin). It was the beginning of a very long love affair with the
breed and one that continues today.
When I bred from Hester I established my own kennel name Milkwood, and although I’ve been in the breed for over
30 years, do not breed very often and have never owned a large number at any one time – they are primarily
companion animals and live in the house with me as one pack. So I feel very proud that from a very small number
of dogs, so far I have had three further champions, Ch Milkwood Miss Pegotty O’Yansukhim, Ch Milkwood’s Matti
Richards and more recently Ch Milkwood’s Me Myself I, plus many other award winning dogs.
Over the years I have had to balance my passion for the breed with work – such a nuisance when it gets in the way
of showing or wanting to have that litter!
These days I make more time to put back something into the breed and am on the Committee for the Irish
Wolfhound Society and am also Treasurer for the Irish Wolfhound Health Group, (IWHG), I am also on the
committees of the South Eastern Hound Club and am Chairman of Guildford and District Dog Show Society. I am
passionate about health and longevity in the breed and also the need to nurture and bring on the next generation of
wolfhound owners/breeders that will be the future custodians of the breed.
