INDIA TO BE PARTNER COUNTRY AT THE HANNOVER MESSE
India has conveyed its consent to be the 'Partner Country' at the prestigious Hannover Fair in Germany to be
held from April 12 – 17, 2015. Prime Minister Shri
Narendra Modi is expected to be present at the world
renowned engineering and technology fair beginning
April 12. Engineering Export Promotion Council India
will be the lead agency supported by India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF) along with Confederation of
Indian Industry (CII) as the other agencies for Indian
participation in the fair. About 300 Indian companies
including public sector giants would be participating
in the five day fair. India had been the Partner Country
at the Hannover Messe in 2006.

CGI, Frankfurt hosted an Open House on October 10, for
Indian students studying in German universities located within the jurisdiction of CGI, Frankfurt. Approximately 50 students from different universities
participated in this interactive session which was addressed by the Consul General, Ms. Srita Heide, a freelance consultant and Mr. Rajesh Ramasamy, Business
Development Manager at Infosys, Germany.

Launch of ‘Samvaad’
On October 16, 2014, CGI Frankfurt launched 'Samvaad'a dialogue with senior members of the Indian diaspora to
tap into their experience to enhance the Indo-German
partnership. CG Raveesh Kumar invited concrete suggestions from the members on enhancing the bilateral partnership through greater trade and investment, constructive engagement with the German media, encouraging
school-exchange programmes, promotion of India
through the German school-system, translation of Indian
books into German and so on.

‘Diwali Bazaar’ celebrated in Frankfurt
On October 13, a ‘Diwali Bazaar’ was organized by
the Indian Ladies’ Club, Frankfurt, supported by the
Consulate General of India, Frankfurt, India Tourism,
State Bank of India and The English Theatre. Some of
the highlights of the the day-long Bazaar were a theatre workshop for school-children, a photography exhibition, fashion show promoting ethnic Indian wear,
music and dance performances, as well as stalls exhibiting Indian handicrafts, jewellery and those selling
Indian street-food.

Kailash Satyarthi wins Nobel Peace Prize for
2014
India's Kailash Satyarthi and Pakistan's Malala
Yousafzai were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for
2014 for "showing great personal courage" and
their struggle against the suppression of children
and young people and for the right of all children to
education. The committee said Kailash Satyarthi
maintained Mahatma Gandhi's tradition and headed
various forms of protests and demonstrations, all
peaceful, focusing on the grave exploitation of children for financial gain. He has also contributed to
the development of important international conventions on children's rights. He is the second Indian to
win a Nobel Peace prize after Mother Teresa.

8 Indian women in the Fortune Asia-Pac List
As many as eight Indian women, led by ICICI Bank
chief Chanda Kochhar, have made it to the Fortune
list of the 25 most powerful women "shaping the
new world order" in the Asia-Pacific region.
Kochhar, ranked highest among Indian women, has
been ranked second across the region, while three
others — State Bank of India Arundhati Bhattacharya (4th), HPCL's Nishi Vasudeva (5th) and Axis
Bank's Shikha Sharma (10th) — have also made it
to the top ten. Other Indians on the top-25 list include Biocon chief Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw (19th),
National Stock Exchange CEO Chitra Ramkrishna
(22nd), HSBC's Naina Lal Kidwai (23rd) and TAFE
chairman and CEO Mallika Srinivasan (25th).

India, Germany discuss Inter-Government Commission meeting schedule
On October 20, India and Germany discussed the scheduling of the
biennial Inter-Governmental Commission meeting in the second half of
2015 which will be headed by the Indian Prime Minister and the German Chancellor, who is expected to travel to India for the meet. This
was discussed between Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh and State Secretary in the German Federal Foreign Office Markus Ederer during their
annual Foreign Office Consultations. With India participating in
the Hannover Fair in 2015 as a partner country, the two sides discussed
ways and means to ensure successful participation at this important
event.
Cognizant bags IT deal from Germany's Vorwerk Group
Software services major Cognizant has bagged a six-year deal from
Germany's Vorwerk Group to transform its IT infrastructure and provide application services. Vorwerk, an international direct-sales company, has subsidiaries in 24 countries with revenues of over $3.2 billion.As part of the six-year engagement, Cognizant will provide Vorwerk
with integrated service management, data centre, network and application management services. The Vorwerk & Co KG family enterprise was
founded in 1883. The holding company's registered office is located in
Wuppertal, Germany.
airberlin appoints AVIAREPS as GSA in India
German airline airberlin has appointed AVIAREPS as General Sales
Agent (GSA) in India, marking the airline’s next step in developing its
presence in the Indian market. AVIAREPS India will work closely with
airberlin to strengthen its relationship with the Indian travel trade,
enhance awareness about airberlin, leading to increase sales from India. airberlin offers a global route network through its strategic partnership with Etihad Airways, offering combined code-share flights from
six destinations in India.
German help for waste-to-power project in Howrah
A German team of experts visited Howrah for a garbage-to-electricity
project. The district, which produces around 500 tonne
of garbage every day, has potential to produce around 1,000 MW of
electricity from the waste. The team, led by H A Detample, who is an
expert at the German waste-to-energy firm Intec Micro Powder AG, felt
that the project has the potential to produce 2 MW power per day from
the waste at the site. The company, headquartered in Berlin, is one of
the pioneers in synthesis gas systems used in drawing energy from
waste.
Tata Consultancy Services honored for outstanding contribution to the Germany-India economic relationship
Tata Consultancy Services received the 'Outstanding Contributor' award
from the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC), in recognition of the
leading role it has played towards progressing the economic relationship
between Germany and India. The company has significantly expanded its
presence in the country, with its revenues growing 134% in the country
from 2010-2013 along with the recruitment of over 500 new positions in
Germany during that period. With offices in Frankfurt, Munich, Stuttgart
and Berlin, TCS also runs a major delivery center in Dusseldorf and is the
technology partner to over 80 companies, including many of the DAX30.
It has also been the main partner to the BMW Berlin Marathon over this
period, supporting the cause of wellness and community development.
Germany to assist in urban sanitation, to fund €4 million
Germany has agreed to provide €4 million and services of international
experts to help the ministry of urban development in effective implementation of a sanitation programme in urban areas of India. The agreement,
valid till March 2017, was signed by Shankar Aggarwal, secretary of the
ministry of urban development, and Stefan Helming, country director of
GIZ, or German Federal Enterprise for International Cooperation. It aims
to promote development in the urban sanitation sector, formulation of
state and city sanitation policies and support states for technical innovation. The focus will be on enabling effective measures against discharge
of untreated waste water into surface and ground water.
Euro 80 million boost for Kochi transport
KfW, a German government-owned development bank, is ready to pump
in 80 million Euros (approximately Rs 624 crore) for developing Kochi's
water transport. The focus will be on modernizing boat services and
starting new routes, linking mainland Ernakulam and surrounding islands. The decision on funding was reached at a high-level meeting held
between Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) managing director Elias George and
senior officials of KfW in New Delhi .
CeBIT joins hands with BangaloreITE.biz to give Indian IT Industry a leg-up
The seventeenth edition of the Karnataka government's annual IT trade
show BangaloreITE.biz got a boost with international technology tradeshow brand CeBIT coming on board as a partner. BangaloreITE.biz began
in 1998. The two IT trade show platforms will collaborate to host the
BangaloreITE.biz 2014 CeBIT India trade show to be held from November
12 to 14, in Bangalore. The tradeshow partners have signed an initial
memorandum of understanding for a one-year partnership. The highlight
of the event is that CeBIT is bringing in more than 600 stalls.

India Day in Koenigstein

An ‘India Day’ was organized on October 19, 2014 at Koenigstein
along with the Mayor of Koenigstein, Mr. Leonhard Helm in association with the Consulate and Sri Sri Ayurveda. The India Day consisted of several events, relating to culture, well-being (Ayurveda
and Yoga) music and dance performances. It was attended by over
500 visitors.
Indian among Germany’s Green Talents 2014 winners
Hawaa Hawaai wins top honour at Germany Film Festival
Bollywood filmmaker Amole Gupte's Hawaa Hawaai has won the top
award for Best Film in the 19th Schlingel Film Festival held in
Chemnitz, Germany. The film won the award under the Junior Film
Category, competing amongst 136 movies from 40 countries. Produced by Fox Star Studios and directed by Amole Gupte, the film
The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has honoured Femeena Pandara Valappil, a young Indian researcher, with
this year’s 'Green Talents' international sustainability award for
her research in the field of water resource engineering. A total of
25 young researchers, out of more than 800 applications from
over 100 countries, with the most innovative ideas were selected
by a high ranking jury of experts.The Green Talent Award, which
is given under the patronage of the Federal Minister of Education
and Research Prof. Dr. Johanna Wanka, was awarded on the November 7 in Berlin.
