Installation time approx. 45 minutes.
The installation time may vary depending on the condition of the car and the equipment in it.
All servicing, repair, installation and adjustment work on cars is completed at your own risk.
All work is to be completed using the latest BMW
- Repair instructions,
- Servicing manuals,
- Work instructions
in a rational sequence using the prescribed tools (special tools) and pursuant to the relevant health and safety
regulations.
Safety instructions
All the torque values for screw connections set out below must be followed to the letter.
Installation instructions
The installation and removal of the soft top should be completed by two people.The installation work is
shown on the left-hand side of the car.The work should also be completed on the right-hand side.

2.2 To install the hardtop adapter

See section 2.1 for preparations.
Follow the safety instructions in section 1.The installation of the accessory is based on the standard workshop information.
The installation work is shown on the left-hand side of the car.The work should also be completed on the righthand side.

Insert the hardtop adapter (a) into the hardtop mounting bracket (1).
B
Secure the hardtop adapter (a) with the nuts (2) and (3) for the original adapter.Turn the nut (4) on to the remaining
threaded stud so that you do not lose it for when you wish to refit the soft top.Tighten the nuts (2) and (3) with a
torque of 20 Nm.
First tighten the nut (2) and then the nuts (3).

Insert the plug (6) for the hardtop mounting in the centre mating plug (7) in the car. Secure the cable using the
securing clip (5).
Ensure that the cable for the hardtop mounting cannot be damaged by the lock on the soft top lid. If necessary secure the cable with a cable tie.
2.3 Concluding work

Refit the side trim at the rear. Engage the spring for the sliding element (8) in the side trim into the groove in the
bolt (9) of the adapter.
2.4 To refit the soft top
Refit the soft top (remove the adapter and install the soft top; see repair instructions 54 31 009) in reverse order.
Before refitting the soft top, fold out the variable convertible top so that you can install the soft top.
Before installing the soft top ensure that the nut (4) is unscrewed from the threaded stud on to which you
screwed it for safekeeping.
