PhD Workshop - Umwelt
PhD Workshop “Environmental Informatics – envision concepts, present approaches and discuss implementations“ The EnviroInfo is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year in September 2016 in Berlin and invites new researchers and PhD students, to share their current research or research proposals with a community that always thrived on new ideas, concepts and research questions. The PhD workshop will focus on bringing PhD students from similar fields together and provide them with a platform where they can network, discuss approaches and challenges as well as present their current state of work. In addition, there will be opportunities to obtain feedback from the established research community. THEMES Topics related to the workshop are: ICT for environmental protection, ICT for climate change and scarce resources, ICT for ecological system modeling and simulation, ICT for power grids/smart grids, Environmental impacts of ICT, Energy aware software development, Energy informatics, Green IT and green by IT, Green software engineering, Renewable energy, Resource and energy efficiency, Sustainability dimensions and indicators, Sustainability reporting, Sustainable manufacturing applications, Sustainable mobility, Carbon footprinting tools and applications, Environmental modeling, visualization, simulation and optimization, Multi-Criteria-Analysis/Optimization for environmental applications, Information modeling and interoperability for sustainability applications. WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES The PhD Workshop is an opportunity for PhD students to share and discuss approaches, challenges and open questions of their individual projects, receive feedback, new ideas and fresh perspectives for their own work, learn from and exchange with other researchers, working in the same research field, obtain an overview of other research activities belonging to environmental informatics, promote the development of a supportive community of PhD students and a spirit of collaborative research, contribute to the conference goals through interaction with other researchers and conference events. HOW TO APPLY The participants of the workshops should be PhD candidates or those who are about to start their PhD studies. In order to arrange and cluster the presentations in a meaningful way, please describe briefly the state of completion of your thesis in your submission (i.e., research proposal, data collection, finished models, programs or thesis, etc.). Depending on your aims considering the publication of your work, we invite you to send us your abstracts or full papers according to the table below: TYPE SUBMISSION/REVIEWING PUBLICATION full scientific paper complete text for peer review, double-blind 6-8 pages Work in progress Extended abstract Short contribution (problems, ideas, visions) Poster (1000 words) for peer review 4-6 pages 4 pages Abstract (500 words) for peer review OR 2 pages Final version for peer review 2 pages Please submit full papers by 31st of March 2016 or respective abstracts by 15th of July 2016 using the conference submission tool. Submission implies that an author will attend the EnviroInfo 2016 to present the paper and all clearance required for publication of the paper will be obtained in time (see “important dates”). Note that PhD students may attend the EnviroInfo 2016 conference at a reduced fee. We are looking forward meeting you in Berlin!
