Cambridge English Certificates
The certificates granted by the University of Cambridge (Syndicate) are the most widely recognized
certificates of English as a foreign language in the world. The examinations are taken by over 400,000
candidates a year in over 100 countries, and provide an international standard in one of the world's
most important languages.
The Cambridge Courses at the VHS Göttingen are designed as a preparation for the Cambridge Certificate examinations in June of each year. The examinations test the four traditional skills of speaking,
listening, writing and reading; the courses offer practice in all these areas, as well as improving and
refining the participants’ active knowledge of English. Participation in the courses is also possible
without taking the examinations.
The courses should benefit all who are interested in accuracy and fluency in English for private or
professional reasons. If anyone is in doubt as to which course would suit them best, the information
evening is designed to offer counselling and advice to all potential course members.
First Certificate in English

Successful FCE candidates are regarded as good users of English. They are expected to be able to
handle the main structures of English with some confidence, demonstrate knowledge of a wide range
of vocabulary, and use appropriate communicative strategies in a variety of work, study and social
situations.
The FCE is the most widely-taken in the range of Cambridge examinations in English as a foreign
language with wide international currency as a general qualification in English at an level comparable
to the “Abitur” and as an effective basis for further study. It has widespread recognition in commerce
and industry, e.g. for public contact or secretarial work in banking, airlines, catering etc., and by individual university faculties, polytechnics and other institutions. - Competence level of the exam according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Language Learning: B2.

Certificate in Advanced English

Successful CAE candidates are regarded as proficient users of English. They are able to use the language with ease and fluency and can cope confidently in most situations that would arise in an English-speaking country - socially, professionally and in higher education.
The level of the CAE is approximately two-thirds of the way between First Certificate and Proficiency.
The preparation course offers comprehensive practice in reading, writing, listening and speaking as
well as systematic revision of advanced grammar. It appeals not only to people who have already
taken the First Certficate course but also to those who simply wish to maintain and improve their already good command of English. - The CAE certificate meets the matriculation requirements of many
British universities. - Competence level of the exam according to the Common European Framework

Certificate of Proficiency in English

Successful CPE candidates are regarded as very good users of English. They approach the linguistic
competence of an educated native speaker, and are expected to be able to use English in a wide
range of culturally appropriate ways. The CPE is the most respected certificate as it meets the matriculation requirements of British universities and sets equivalent standards in business or academic
contexts elsewhere. - Competence level of the exam according to the Common European Framework

Formalitäten
Anmeldung: Die Anmeldung erfolgt mit einem Lehrgangsvertrag, den Sie von der Volkshochschule
erhalten oder im Internet abrufen können. Eine frühzeitige Anmeldung ist ratsam.
Ratenzahlung: Die Gebühr kann in drei Raten gezahlt werden. Für Sie und für uns ist es am einfachsten, wenn Sie uns auf dem Lehrgangsvertrag eine Einzugsermächtigung bei Ihrer Bank erteilen.
Bei minderjährigen Schülern benötigen wir die Unterschrift eines Erziehungsberechtigten.
Die drei Raten (inkl. Kosten für Lehrmaterial) betragen für alle Lehrgänge 132,50 €. Die 1. Rate wird
bei Lehrgangsbeginn fällig, die 2. Rate am 15. Januar 2017, die 3. Rate am 13. März 2017.
Ermäßigung: Bei Zahlung der Lehrgangsgebühren in einer Summe vor Beginn des Lehrgangs wird
ein Nachlass von 5% auf die Kursgebühr (ohne Lehrmittel) gewährt.
Rücktritt: Ein Rücktritt vom Lehrgang ist bis zum Lehrgangsbeginn ohne finanzielle Verpflichtungen
möglich. Nach Lehrgangsbeginn kann der Vertrag mit einer Frist von 4 Wochen zum Quartalsende
gekündigt werden. Bei einer Kündigung ist eine Ausfallgebühr von 25 % der noch offenen Lehrgangsgebühr zu zahlen. Der Rücktritt muss schriftlich per Einschreiben erfolgen.
Prüfungsgebühren: Die Prüfungsgebühren sind nicht in den Lehrgangsgebühren enthalten. Da die
Prüfungsgebühren von Cambridge festgelegt werden, müssen Änderungen vorbehalten bleiben.

Prüfungsanmeldung: Die Anmeldung zur Prüfung muss bis März 2017 erfolgen. Alle Lehrgangsteilnehmer werden im Laufe des Februars schriftlich zur Prüfungsanmeldung eingeladen.
Prüfungsort: Prüfungsort ist Göttingen, sofern sich mindestens sieben Interessenten zur Prüfung
melden. Wird diese Mindestzahl nicht erreicht, werden die Prüfungskandidaten aus Niedersachsen
zentral zusammengefasst. Prüfungsort ist dann Hannover.
