Es gibt nicht viele Parallelen zwischen einem Urlaub auf Karpathos
und dem Hollywood Film aus den neunziger Jahren “Und täglich grüßt
das Murmeltier“. Aber die sich allmorgendlich wiederholende Szene
aus dem Erfolgsstreifen, bei der Bill Murray durch das gleiche Lied
aus dem Radio geweckt wird, aufsteht und aus dem Fenster schaut
und immer wieder das Gleiche sieht, das könnte einem mit großer
Wahrscheinlichkeit auch auf Karpathos widerfahren. Vergessen wir
mal den Radiowecker, der im Urlaub ja nun wirklich nichts zu suchen
hat. Du stehst auf, schiebst den Vorhang zur Seite und siehst immer
das Gleiche – Fahnenstangen, Palmen und karge Bäume die sich verzweifelt gegen die 20 bis 30 Knoten Wind stemmen. In diesem Fall ein
Blick, der nicht in die Verzweiflung treibt. Ein Blick, bei dem jedem
Windsurfer das Herz aufgeht.
Groundhog Day – Karpathos style
There are really not many parallels between a vacation on Karpathos
and the Hollywood film from the ’90’s “Groundhog Day“ except for
the scene where the character played by Bill Murray is awakened each
and every morning by the same song on the radio. He then gets out
of bed and goes to the window, looking out at exactly the same scene
as the morning before. This could be your experience on Karpathos
as well. Except for the radio alarm - this has no place in a vacation.
So, you get up, pull the curtains aside or open the blinds and see the
same thing as the morning before: flag-poles, palms and scrubby trees
bracing themselves against the 20 to 30 knots of wind. This, though, is
not a view that will drive you to despair. It is a view that would make
any windsurfer’s heart beat that much faster.
