GENEVA INTERNATIONAL MUSIC COMPETITION:
Prizewinners of the Piano Competition
The First Prize at the Geneva International Music Competition was unanimously awarded to
South-Korean pianist Ms. Ji-Yeong Mun, 18 years old! Ms. Pallavi Mahidhara (27 years old, USA)
won Second Prize and Mr. Hong Kim, Third Prize.
The Final round took place in two stages: chamber music, then concerto with orchestra. During the first

Final, which was held on Sunday November 30 , candidates were required to perform one of Mozart’s
Concertos with String Quintet. During the second Final, which took place tonight at the Victoria Hall,
they each performed a Concerto with orchestra at free choice among the following: Beethoven (N°3, 4,
5), Chopin (N°1, 2), Liszt (N°1, 2), Saint-Saëns (N° 2, 4), Schumann, Prokofiev (N°2, 3) or Bartók (N°3)).
The four finalists performed with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, conducted by Alexander Shelley.
The Flute and Piano Finals were video streamed on RTS.ch and ARTE Concert and broadcast live on
the Swiss national radio (Radio Télévision Suisse – Espace 2). During the month of December, both
Finals will be broadcast on MEZZO TV.
Members of the piano jury are: Mr. Pascal Rogé (France, Chairman), Mr. Pascal Devoyon (France), Mr.
Gabriel Kwok (Hong-Kong), Mr. Robert MacDonald (USA), Ms. Gitti Pirner (Germany), Ms. Rena
Shereshevskaya (Russia) and Mr. Katsumi Ueda (Japan).
Masterclass with Pascal Rogé
A three-day masterclass given by Pascal Rogé, Chairman of the piano jury, is offered in collaboration
with the Lausanne and Geneva Music Conservatories. The masterclass is open to the public and will

end with a concert on Friday December 5 at 6:30 pm at the Conservatory.

Concerts & engagements
Prizewinners benefit from two full years of services from the ProMusica Genève concert agency, giving
them the opportunity to take their first steps on the Swiss and international musical scene. More than
just a guarantee of obtaining concerts and engagements, this programme aims at promoting the
laureates after their victory.

Honggi Kim vit en Corée, où il a suivi toutes ses études, d’abord à la
Yewon School puis à l’Ecole des Arts de Séoul. Depuis 2010, il étudie
à l’Université National des Arts de Corée avec Chong-Pil Lim et EunJung Sohn.

Après des études à la Levine School of Music à Washington, DC
auprès de Julian Martin, Pallavi entre au Curtis Institute de
Philadelphie où elle suit l’enseignement de Ignat Solzhenitsyn.
Depuis 2010, elle continue sa formation à Madrid, à l’Ecole
Supérieure de Musique Reina Sofia auprès de Dimitri Bashkirov.

M. Igor Andreev, 26 ans, Russie
Natif de Kaliningrad en Russie, Igor a commencé le piano à l’âge de 5
ans. En 2000, il entre à l’Ecole Spéciale du Conservatoire RimskyKorsakoff de Saint-Petersbourg où son professeur est Vladimir
Suslov. Puis en 2007, il est admis au Conservatoire d’Etat de la même
ville où il étudie avec Leonid Zaichik, Irina Sharapova et Victoria
Zimina. Depuis 2011, il poursuit sa formation à la Hochschule de
Berne avec Tomasz Herbut.
Il a remporté de nombreuses compétitions pour jeunes en Estonie, en
Tchéquie, en Russie et en Allemagne (Concours Lizt de Weimar),
ainsi que des prix en musique de chambre. Il est bénéficiaire de
nombreuses bourses de Fondations telles que Hirschmann ou KieferHablitzel.
Il joue en récital et avec orchestre en Russie et en Estonie, mais aussi
en Allemagne, Finlande, Suisse, Lituanie, Hongrie. Il participe à de
nombreux festivals en Suisse, en Allemagne, en Italie et en Autriche.

Mme Ji-Yeong Mun, 18 ans, Corée du Sud
Née à Yeosu en Corée en décembre 1995, Ji-Yeong Mun s’est très
vite signalée comme l’une des musiciennes les plus douées de sa
génération. Récipiendaire de bourses de prestige (Korean Young
Talent Award, Dorean Foundation, ainsi que La Fondation Daewon
pour la Culture), elle a étudié à l’Institut National de Corée pour les
jeunes talents et est actuellement élève de l’Université Nationale de
Corée auprès de Daejin Kim.

Elle a déjà remporté de nombreuses récompenses, dont le 1 Prix du
Concours International de Takamatsu, celui du Concours pour les
Jeunes d’Ettlingen parmi d’autres.
Elle joue en solo ou avec orchestre en Corée, en France (Salle Cortot),
en Pologne et en Allemagne.
