Numerical solution of stiff ordinary differential equations
(stability domains, stability concepts, one- and multi-step
methods for stiff problems).
Introduction to the numerical solution of partial differential
equations (finite differences, finite elements, method of lines).
Focus on problems in one space dimension, 2D for elliptic
boundary value problems.
Iterative solvers for systems of linear equations.
Angestrebte Lernergebnisse:
At the end of the module students are able to understand and
apply numerical solution techniques for stiff ordinary
differential equations and numerical methods for the solution
of partial differential equations. They have programming
skills and are able to handle corresponding software.
