task:
Find a topic related to “spirit, ghost“
and create photographs to it.
In a group of 6 people we worked on the topic of „Grauzone“
(grayzone), between light and shadows, between life and death.
I went into an old hospital in Weimar, which has been empty for
many years and took pictures in and outside the hospital.

Camera obscura
A simple box with a tiny needle hole on one side. Painted black from inside, filled with a sheet of photo paper and left
in the hospital for a whole night.
panorama pictures
Through various
experiments I got
the idea of creating
panorama pictures
with my ordinary
reflex camera.
By the way of
rewinding the film
very slightly after
every shot and
turning the camera,
I made the black
seperation lines
on the negative
film disappear and
menaged to create
panorama pictures.

Project:
“Da ist ein Haar in meiner Suppe!“ − 2. semester
year:
professor:
summer 2003
Prof. Werner Holzwarth
Dipl.−Des. Stephan Eckel
task:
Create a story to the topic “there is a hair in my soup“, illustrate it and create a flash site.
The first picture had to be a soup plate with a hair in it.
Flash: Robert A. W. Neumann
I created a story about a king, who is so angry finding a hair in his soup, that he gives the order to shave the
whole kingdom. A little later he finds a hair in his soup again ...
He finds a hair in his soup.
He is so angry that he falls and looses his
crown.
Peter Machat − Visuelle Kommunikation
He gives the order to shave the whole kingdom.
Everybody get shaved. Even brushes and carpets.
The painters overpaint the hair on the potraits.
After that all animals get shaved.
Until there are only three hairs left in the whole
kingdom and only one person who does not know
where they are.
Peter Machat − Visuelle Kommunikation
Again there is a hair in the soup of the king. He
sends out his soldiers to find the guilty one.
The soldiers find a child, that just got his first hair.
The king brings the child to trial.
He bends down to see his enemy eye to eye. In this
moment the kid grasps the kings hair.

Projekt:
„1, 2, 3, 4, 5, sex, 7, ach, nein und die Null“ − 3. Semester
year:
professor:
winter 2003/04
Hochschuldozent Peter Gamper
Dipl.−Des. Stephan Eckel
task:
1. Create Posters on the topic “numbers“.
2. Find a text on the topic “numbers“ and layout and design an article for an existing
magazine.
3. Free work on the topic “numbers“.
Top: Poster serie about german politicians who tried to
hide their illegal money transfers. The principle of “drawing
by numbers“ is reversed.
Every field is marked with the
number 1 which means gray.
Painting the fields will lead to
a complete gray poster, the
politician disappears.
Right: 1 2 3 I shoot you free ...
Peter Machat − Visuelle Kommunikation
Article
about the
meaning
and the use
of numbers in the
“Matthäus
Passion“
of Johann
Sebastian
Bach.
Peter Machat − Visuelle Kommunikation
Ironic campaign
about the consequences of saving
money on education.
Text: “Only one
Professor left on 300
students of medicine.“
(urban development,
theology, architecture, civil engineering,
german).
