Josef Wittmann (centre), Chairman of the Hallertau Hop-Growers' Association celebrated his 50th birthday in 2006. In a laudatory speech Dr. Johann Pichlmaier (r.), President of the Association of German Hop-Growers acknolwedged his services and
awarded him the Association's Golden Badge of Honour. The
royal triumvirate 2005/06 congratulated him as well as many
representatives of the hop industry, politics and the press. As a
surprise the childrens' alp-horn band from the Rupertiwinkel
played for him.

Beautifully handcrafted gifts around
the green gold can be found at the
Hop Museum in Wolnzach. Besides
the ceramic hop jewellery pictured
there are silver hop-cones as necklaces and golden pins - matching traditional costume. Also reproductions of
old engravings, artistically decorated
wooden boxes, Easter eggs, household
ceramics, hop wreaths, toys, tin figures and hop liqueurs are all on sale.

Hopfentrophäen – 1 500 Hopfendolden modellierte die Mainburger Keramikermeisterin Brigitte Obermeyer anlässlich der „BR-Radltour“. Das jährliche Großereignis
des Bayerischen Rundfunks führte 2006 streckenweise durch die Hallertau. 1 300 Teilnehmer hielten die 550 Kilometer durch bis ans Ziel in der Porzellanstadt Selb.
Hop trophies – The Mainburg master potter Brigitte Obermeyer modelled 1,500 hop cones for
the "BR Cycle Tour". In 2006 the big annual event of the Bavarian Broadcasting Company took
the cyclists through stretches of the Hallertau. 1,300 participants completed the 550 kilometres
and reached the finishing post in the town of Selb - famous for its porcelain.

Präsident des Verbands deutscher Hopfenpflanzer, die Verdienste Wittmanns und zeichnete ihn mit der Goldenen
Ehrennadel des Verbands aus. Das königliche Dreigestirn
2005–06 gratulierte ebenso wie viele Vertreter aus Hopfenwirtschaft, Politik und Presse. Als Überraschung brachten
die Kinderalphornbläser aus dem Ruppertiwinkel dem
Geburtstagskind ein Ständchen.
