After a three-month creative phase, the shortlist of submitted ideas will now be presented to the broader public. As Berlin Partner managing director Melanie Bähr notes: "The DMY International Design Festival provides the ideal backdrop to present the 20 design nominees chosen by our jury. And it's also the perfect stage to showcase the ideas behind these designs to a wider audience. Berlin's creative community – whether we're talking about artists, designers, architects or concept developers – have truly outdone themselves in creating innovative perspectives on the city. Immediately following the announcement of the finalists, we're going to bring these creatives into contact with potential manufacturers and distributors so that their ideas can reach the market-ready stage as soon as possible. As you may know, we didn't launch this competition for its own sake; we really want these new souvenirs to create a fresh and exciting image for Berlin." Berlin Senate Spokesman Dr. Richard Meng agreed: "Our jury is made up of established design experts, which means that the 20 final souvenir designs they selected have a very high quality standard. And now the creative minds behind these 20 designs will have until the presentation of the three awards and the Public Choice Award in September to optimize their ideas even further. Both the jury and our panel of project partners will do everything they can to make these new Berlin souvenirs as attractive as possible. We also want to generate effective image advertising tools and send out a positive message to the whole world. A good souvenir is always associated with fond memories." visitBerlin managing director Burkhard Kieker also noted: "Berlin is Germany's creative pool. The ideas submitted to the souvenir design competition are evidence of that innovative force. They're not clichéd ideas; they fit perfectly to our design metropolis. So many visitors are looking for a type of 'take-away Berlin.' We can already imagine having some of the objects in our visitBerlin online shop at our Berlin Tourist Info spots." Starting on Monday, June 10, 2013, you will be able to view the shortlisted designs online in our "Gallery of Nominees" at http://www.sei.berlin.de/designwettbewerb/galerie.
