Every year it offers 15 jury-selected female artists in Berlin the chance to strengthen their knowledge, broaden their networks, and develop their professionalism through a postgraduate course – and thereby supports its participants in embarking on successful careers. A quarter century after the Goldrausch Project for Women Artists was founded, Berlin has become the object of many artists’ desires – and home to about 10,000 artists, according to the Berufsverband Bildender Künstler Berlin (Berlin Association of Visual Artists). The city boasts two art schools and numerous galleries and project spaces. For artists, attracting attention to their work in this internationally oriented arena represents both an opportunity and a challenge. And throughout the process, a pattern persists: Even though the majority of art students are women, female artists still garner less attention than their male counterparts. In particular, solo exhibitions in the larger art institutions or galleries are rarely devoted to the work of contemporary women artists. The Goldrausch Project for Women Artists aims to provide its participants with tools to become more visible on their own terms, without forcing this professionalization to be constricting or conforming. The long-term objective is not assimilation or adaptation to milieus traditionally closed to women, but rather an articulation of individual parameters and active participation in a nuanced art public. The anniversary exhibition “25 Karat – Goldrausch 2015” will show work by this year's scholarship recipients. The show includes multidisciplinary conceptual pieces as well as photography, sculpture, drawing, film and video, installation, monotype, and painting. In addition, a large sculptural archival installation by Folke Köbberling will present comprehensive material on former participants. Artists Nike Arnold, Detel Aurand, Raluca C.E.
