INTRODUCTION TO FRENCH STUDIES
OBJECTIFS:
Ce cours vise 4 objectifs:
1)
développer l’expression écrite de l’étudiant(e) par une révision systématique de la
grammaire et par des exercices de rédaction;
2)
enrichir à la fois son vocabulaire et ses connaissances du monde francophone par
la lecture des textes littéraires;
3)
initier l’étudiant(e) à l’analyse textuelle;
4)
améliorer son expression orale à l’aide d’exercices et d’activités.
MÉTHODES:
4 heures obligatoires + 1 heure facultative par semaine
Chaque semaine comporte:
1)
une composante grammaticale (2 heures)
- travail écrit et oral à partir du manuel et du cahier Mise au point
- activités en classe, discussions, présentation orale, etc...
2)
une composante d’activités orales (1 heure)
- séances de conversation sous la direction d’un/e assistant/e de France
3)
une composante littéraire (1 heure)
- lecture, discussion, analyse des textes littéraires
4)
Mise au point - mcDRILLmaster (1 heure facultative)
- exercices de renforcement et/ou de révision
5)
Travail individuel de perfectionnement, p. ex. Tell Me More
SYSTÈME DE NOTATION:
2 compositions dirigées et (dont au moins une sera présentée en classe)
2 dissertations littéraires (1 par semestre)
contrôles (selon les besoins de la section; au moins 6)
travaux oraux & participation, travail individuel (p.ex. Tell Me More)
2 tests (octobre/février)
examen de décembre
examen final

DIRECTIVES POUR LA COMMUNICATION PAR COURRIEL :
“It is the policy of the French Department that all Email communication between students and
instructors (including TAs) must originate from their official McMaster University Email
accounts. This policy protects the confidentiality and sensitivity of information and confirms the
identities of both the student and instructor. Messages that do not originate from McMaster
Email accounts will be deleted”.
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY POLICY
Academic dishonesty consists of misrepresentation by deception or by other fraudulent means
and can result in serious consequences, e.g. the grade of zero on an assignment, loss of credit
with a notation on the transcript (notation reads: “Grade of F assigned for academic dishonesty”),
and/or suspension or expulsion from the university.
It is your responsibility to understand what constitutes academic dishonesty. For information on
the various kinds of academic dishonesty please refer to the Academic Integrity Policy,
specifically Appendix 3, located at htt://www.mcmaster.ca/senate/academic/ac_integrity.htm
The following illustrates only three forms of academic dishonesty:
1. Plagiarism, e.g. the submission of work that is not one’s own or for which other credit has
been obtained.
2. Improper collaboration in group work.
3. Copying or using unauthorized aids in tests and examinations.
