Herstellungsverfahren
Ätherisches Teebaumöl wird durch Wasserdampfdestillation der Blätter und Zweigspitzen des
Teebaumes (Melaleuca alternifolia) gewonnen. Dabei dient heißer Wasserdampf als Trägerstoff für die
leicht flüchtigen organischen Komponenten der Pflanzenteile. Durch die Nicht-Mischbarkeit der
organischen Bestandteile des ätherischen Öles und des Wassers findet beim Abkühlen eine spontane
Phasentrennung statt, so dass das reine ätherische Öl abgeschieden werden kann. Die Ausbeute
beträgt etwa 6.0%.[1,2]
Manufacturing method
The essential tea tree oil is obtained by water steam distillation of the twigs and leaves of the tea tree
(Melaleuca alternifolia). Hot water steam is used as a carrier for the volatile organic compounds of the plant.
Due to the non miscibility of the organic compounds with water, the phases readily separate upon cooling and
the essential oil can be easily separated. The yield is about 6.0%.[1,2]
Botanischer Ursprung des ätherischen Teebaumöls
Die Art Australischer Teebaum (Melaleuca alternifolia) gehört zur
Gattung
der
Myrthenheiden
(Melaleuca)
in
der
Familie
der
Myrtengewächse (Myrtaceae), welche zur Ordnung der Myrtenartigen
(Myrtales) zählt. Der Australische Teebaum kommt ursprünglich aus
den Australischen Bundesstaaten New South Wales und Queensland.
Der Australische Teebaum wächst als immergrüner Baum oder
Strauch und kann bis zu 10 m hoch werden und ist sehr
schnellwüchsig. Der Stamm hat eine papierähnliche, weiße Borke. Die
Laubblätter sind zwischen 1.0 und 3.5 cm lang, gegenständig
angeordnet, lanzettlich und gerade bis sichelförmig. Die weißen,
vielblütigen, 3.0 bis 5.0 cm langen Blütenstände erscheinen im Frühjahr. Der Australische Teebaum
entwickelt kleine, zylindrische Kapselfrüchte.[3]

Botanical origin of essential tea tree oil
The species Australian tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) belongs to the genus Melaleuca in the Myrtaceae family,
which is in the order of Myrtales. The Australian tea tree originally comes from the Australian states of New
South Wales and Queensland. The Australian tea tree grows as evergreen tree or shrub and can grow up to 10
meters high and is very fast-growing. The tribe has a paper-like white bark. The leaves are between 1.0 and 3.5
cm long, placed opposite, lanceolate and straight to falcate. The white, many-flowered, 3.0 to 5.0 cm long
inflorescences appear in spring. The Australian tea tree developed small, cylindrical seed capsules.[3]
Charakterisierung
Das ätherische Teebaumöl ist eine leicht bewegliche, farblose bis hellgelbe Flüssigkeit. Es hat einen
krautig-frischen und eukalyptusartigen Geruch. Das ätherische Öl löst sich gut in Alkohol (1:1,
Ethanol 90%), Pflanzenölen und anderen ätherischen Ölen. Es ist nahezu unlöslich in Wasser.
Hauptbestandteile sind Terpinen-4-ol, -Terpinen und -Terpinen. Der Gehalt an 1,8-Cineol darf bei
maximal 15% liegen. In geringeren Konzentrationen sind Pinen-Isomere, p-Cymol, a-Terpineol,
Terpinolen und Limonen enthalten.[2]
Characterisation
The essential tea tree oil is an easily movable, colourless to light yellow liquid. It has a fresh herbal-and
eucalyptus-like odor. The essential oil is good soluble in alcohol (1:1, ethanol 90%), vegetable oils and other
essential oils. It is almost insoluble in water. Main components are terpinen-4-ol, -terpinene and -terpinene.
The content of 1,8-cineole may be at maximum 15%. In lower concentrations, pinene isomers, p-cymene, terpineol, terpinolene and limonene are included as well.[2]
Arzneiliche Verwendung, Phytotherapie

Jahrhunderten von den Aborigines zu therapeutischen Zwecken eingesetzt. Der Name Teebaum geht
auf Kapitän James Cook zurück, der beobachtete, wie die Aborigines aus den Blättern bestimmter

Neuere
Studien
haben
die
lange
phänomenologisch beobachteten antiviralen, antifungiziden und antibakteriellen Eigenschaften
bewiesen. Ätherisches Teebaumöl wirkt stark antibakteriell gegen eine Vielzahl von grampositiven
und gramnegativen Bakterien. Es kann bei Appendizitis, Zahnabszessen, Zystitiden und eitriger
Bronchitis als Einreibung oder als Ölbad eingesetzt werden. Zudem wirkt ätherisches Teebaumöl
auch stark antiviral. Es kann bei Infektionen im Mund- und Rachenraum (Aphthosen, Stomatitis,
Gingivitis, Mundulzera) und im HNO-Bereich (Otitis, Rhinopharyngitis) eingesetzt werden. Auch
Herpes, Warzen und Windpocken können mit ätherischem Teebaumöl behandelt werden.
Ätherisches Teebaumöl kann als Fungizid insbesondere gegen Candida albicans bei akuten und
chronischen genitalen Infektionen eingesetzt werden. Ätherisches Teebaumöl wirkt auch gegen
Parasiten wie z. B. Lamblien und kann das Immunsystem stimulieren, wenn es als Massageöl
angewandt wird.[4,5]

Die ätherischen Öle werden im Johanniskrautöl gelöst. Mit dieser Mischung werden das Brustbein
und die Fußsohlen mehrmals täglich eingerieben.
Medical use, phytotherapy
The compounds of essential tea tree have a number of health-related properties. Essential tea tree oil is one of
the best-studied essential oils, with more than 200 studies. In his native Australia, the essential tea tree oil has
been used for centuries by the Aborigines for therapeutic purposes. The name tea tree goes back to Captain James
Cook, who watched as the Aboriginal manufactured an aqueous extracts (tea) from the leaves of certain trees.
Recent studies have demonstrated the long phenomenological observed antiviral, antifungal and antibacterial
properties. Essential tea tree oil has strong antibacterial properties against a variety of gram-positive and
gram-negative bacteria. It can be used for appendicitis, tooth abscesses, cystitis and purulent bronchitis as an
ointment or oil bath. In addition, essential tea tree oil has also strong anti-viral properties. It can be used for
infections of the mouth and throat (aphthous stomatitis, gingivitis, mouth ulcers) and in the ENT field
(rhinopharyngitis, otitis). Also, herpes, warts and chickenpox can be treated with essential tea tree oil.
Essential tea tree oil can be used as a fungicide in particular against Candida albicans in acute and chronic
genital infections. Essential tea tree oil is also effective against parasites such as Giardia and may stimulate the
immune system when it is used as a massage oil.[4,5]

Aromatherapie

als leichtes Antidepressivum. Bei Antriebslosigkeit, psychischer Müdigkeit, geistiger Erschöpfung
und Lustlosigkeit kann es als Ölbad und Massageöl eingesetzt werden. [4,5]

uncertainty. It can be used as oil bath, massage oil or for inhalation. Essential tea tree oil also works well as a
light mood enhancing and antidepressant. With lethargy, mental fatigue, mental fatigue and listlessness, it can
be used as oil bath and massage oil.[4,5]
Verwendung in der Küche

Anwendung in der Kosmetik
Das ätherische Teebaumöl wird in kosmetischen Produkten eher selten als Inhaltsstoff eingesetzt. Es
findet begrenzt Verwendung als Duftstoff in erdigen Duftnoten. Wichtiger ist seine Anwendung als
entzündungshemmender Wirkstoff in Shampoos, Cremes, Lotionen, Seifen und Badezusätzen.
Ätherisches Teebaumöl eignet sich sehr gut für Mischungen mit Bergamotte, Eichenmoos,
Kiefernadel, Lavendel, Majoran, Mandarine, Muskat, Muskatellersalbei, Nelke, Palmarosa, Rose,
Rosengeranie, Rosmarin, Sandelholz, Thymian und Ylang-Ylang.[2,4]

Use in Cosmetic
The essential tea tree oil is rarely used in cosmetic products as an ingredient. It finds limited use as fragrance
in earthy fragrances. More important is its use as anti-inflammatory agent in shampoos, creams, lotions, soaps
and bath products. Essential tea tree oil is very suitable for mixtures with bergamot, oak moss, pine needle,
lavender, marjoram, mandarin, nutmeg, clary sage, clove, palmarosa, rose, rose geranium, rosemary,
sandalwood, thyme and ylang-ylang.[2,4]
Anwendungs- und Warnhinweise, Nebenwirkungen
Einige der Inhaltstoffe von ätherischem Teebaumöl sind als gesundheitlich bedenklich einzustufen.
Bei Anwendung in höherer Dosis können Kontaktallergien auftreten. Pinen-Isomere und 1,8-Cineol
können bei dermaler Anwendung bei empfindlichen Personen zu Hautreizungen und Ekzemen
führen, bei oraler Aufnahme sind Nierenreizungen möglich. Limonen hat ein allergenes Potential.
Ätherisches Teebaumöl eignet sich nicht für die innere Anwendung bei Schwangeren, Säuglingen
und
Kleinkindern.

Application and warning notes, side effects
Some of the compounds of essential tea tree oil are categorized as harmful to health. When used in higher dose
contact dermatitis may occur.When applied dermal, pinenes and 1,8-cineol can lead to skin irritation and eczema
in susceptible individuals, when taken orally, kidney irritations are possible. Limonene has an allergenic
potential. Essential tea tree oil is not suitable for internal use in pregnant women, infants and young children.

1829/2003 und VO (EG) 1830/2003. Zur Herstellung wurden weder bestrahlte Rohstoffe eingesetzt
