Topic
Racetrack for Formula 1 in Schools
Assignment of tasks
“Formula 1 in Schools” is an international technology competition.
Students develop, design and produce their own miniature Formula 1
cars and finally present them at a race.
In order to compare aerodynamics of the cars and their rolling
resistance the model-cars are all driven by CO2-capsules over a race
track that is 20 meters long.
The HTL-Mödling would like to take part to participate in these
competitions.
Due to the high costs of the original race tracks it was our task to
design and produce a functional, economical race track including the
measuring equipment, a starting device, a braking system, and a test
car.

Results
Information about the original racetrack was collected. A new
Racetrack, including time-measuring equipment was constructed.
A starting-device, with the original functionality, had been
constructed and produced.
The time-measuring equipment consists of one microcontroller,
four light barriers, two magnetic-controls and a starting signal.
A test-car was constructed and CNC-milled according to the rules
of Formula 1 in Schools.
The starting-device, which opens the capsules, was reconstructed.
A Circuit diagram for the measuring equipment was developed.
A flow-chart for every step during a race was worked out.
