GENERELLE INFORMATIONEN
Gastfamilien
Die Adressen der Gastfamilien bekommen Sie sobald als möglich. Schreiben Sie Ihrer Gastfamilie
einen kurzen Brief oder eine Email (auf Englisch), in welcher Sie sich kurz vorstellen und mitteilen,
dass Sie sich auf die bevorstehenden zwei Wochen freuen etc. Die Gastfamilien freuen sich bestimmt
auch über ein kleines Mitbringsel wie Schweizer Schokolade, Fondue etc. 
Klasseneinteilung
Machen Sie den ATC Einstufungstest wie besprochen online:
https://atc.typeform.com/to/AjgUKj.
Zusätzlich zur schriftlichen Einstufung werden am ersten Schultag Ihre mündlichen
Fähigkeiten beurteilt, um eine optimale Klassezuteilung zu gewährleisten.
Aktivitäten
Im provisorischen Wochenplan haben wir ein vielseitiges Angebot an Aktivitäten zusammengetragen.
Für einige Aktivitäten ist die Teilnahme obligatorisch, für andere ist sie freiwillig. Dieser Plan ist
flexibel: je nach Bedingungen (Wetter, Interessenten etc.) können Aktivitäten verschoben oder
gestrichen werden. Bei Bedarf können neue Angebote hinzukommen.

Am Informationsabend erhalten Sie Stadtpläne von Bray und Dublin.
Notfallzettel
Sie erhalten am Infoabend einen Notfallzettel mit den wichtigsten Telefonnummern – diesen sollten
Sie während der Reise und dem Aufenthalt in Bray immer im Portemonnaie mit sich tragen. Es lohnt
sich auch die Nummern auf Ihrem Handy zu speichern.

KODEX
Wir sind sozusagen Botschafterinnen und Botschafter unserer Schweiz und bemühen uns, einen
positiven Eindruck zu hinterlassen.
Für die zwei Wochen, die wir im Sprachgebiet verbringen, gelten daher nachfolgende Abmachungen.
1. Allgemein
Wir verzichten auf übermässigen Alkoholkonsum.
Jede Art des Konsums illegaler Drogen ist strikt verboten.
2. Unterricht in der Schule
Wir sprechen die Landessprache.
Wir respektieren die Lehrpersonen.
Wir nehmen aktiv am Unterricht teil.
Wir erscheinen pünktlich zum Unterricht.
Wir essen und trinken nicht im Schulzimmer.
Wir verwenden unser Handy nicht im Schulzimmer.
Wir rauchen nicht im Schulareal.
3. Ausserhalb des Unterrichts
Wir verhalten uns korrekt als verantwortungsbewusste junge Erwachsene.
Wir folgen den Anweisungen der Lehrpersonen und Begleitpersonen bei Veranstaltungen oder
Exkursionen.
Aus Sicherheitsgründen bleiben wir immer in Gruppen.
Wir benützen, wenn nötig, ein Taxi.
4. In der Gastfamilie
Wir respektieren die Sitten und Regeln in der Gastfamilie.
Wir informieren unsere Gastfamilie, wohin wir gehen und wann wir zurück sein werden.
Wir rufen unsere Gastfamilie an, falls wir verspätet zum Nachtessen erscheinen.
Falls wir etwas beschädigen, ersetzen wir es oder bezahlen dafür.
5. Ausgang
Wir kehren abends rechtzeitig in die Gastfamilie zurück: wochentags 23.00 Uhr, am Wochenende
24.00 Uhr.



Falls Sie unsere Abmachungen für den Sprachaufenthalt nicht befolgen,
können Sie vom Unterricht ausgeschlossen werden.
Falls Sie wiederholt gegen unsere Abmachungen verstossen, können Sie auf
eigene Kosten frühzeitig nach Hause geschickt werden.
In beiden Fällen werden das BZWU und Ihr Lehrbetrieb schriftlich informiert.
Es erfolgt keine Rückerstattung des Schulgeldes und der Kost und Logis bei
den Gastfamilien.
Dass Sie diesen Kodex befolgen werden, resp. mit den Sanktionen bei Nichteinhalten des Kodex
einverstanden sind, haben Sie bereits bei Ihrer Anmeldung mit Ihrer Unterschrift bestätigt.

WHAT TO BRING ALONG
Don’t forget:
 Passport or ID
 Your Flight Booking code (if you purchased your ticket yourself). Make sure you have
entered your advance passenger information (with the documentation that you will use on the day
of travel) before you go to the airport. You should check in and print your boarding pass for your
outward and return flight before leaving Switzerland.
 Information papers:
Host family name and address
All papers for visa: letter from school in England, our school
 EC-card, credit card. NB There is usually a fixed transaction charge (usually about CHF 1.502.50) when you use your EC card to buy something abroad. Your credit card will charge you a %
of the amount you spend.
 Cash in € - you’ll need money for shopping, pubs, taxi rides home at night and maybe for lunch (if
you don’t like the lunch pack your host family prepares for you). NB: It is expensive to take cash
out of a cash machine abroad with an EC-card but much more expensive with a credit card. For
Belfast / Northern Ireland you will need British Pounds or your EC-Card.
 Mobile phone and charger / adaptor
 Pencil case, an English-English dictionary
 Present for your host family (Swiss Chocolate, Biberli, Birebrot etc.)
 Medication (aspirin is always good to have and any personal medication you need)
 Health insurance details - should you need to see a doctor in Ireland, be sure to ask for a receipt.
 Toiletries (Nécessaire), jacket, warm pullovers, scarf, hat, 2 pairs of good, flat shoes, umbrella,
slippers, pyjamas etc. The family provides the towels.

WHEN IN BRAY

 School starts on 3rd October. Please be at the school at 8.30.
 I will meet you in the break room at school at 8.30 every morning so we can arrange our program.
 At other times if you need help you can contact me either by calling or texting my mobile. The

 Make sure you know your host family's telephone number and address. Keep it on a separate
piece of paper in your wallet not just on your mobile. Do not keep the address with your key to
their house. Keep the Notfallzettel with you at all times.
 Always tell your host family when you go out and when you will be back. (Leave a note in a place
they will find it if they aren't at home).
 If anything happens at your host family's (you break something, lose your key): Tell them
immediately and inform me when you next see me. You will probably have to pay for things you
damage. If you lose the key you may have to pay to change the locks at the house, so be careful
with it.
 Don’t carry your passport or Swiss ID around with you in Ireland. Keep it at your host family’s
house. You don’t need to carry any document with you in Ireland. But keep in mind: If you are
buying alcohol, or entering part of a pub, club or bar the staff can ask you to provide proof of age.
 Don’t keep any bank cards or credit cards in the same place as your money in case your
purse / wallet gets stolen.
 Manners: ‘Please’ and ‘thank you’ are very important words in English! If you ask for something,
even in a shop or restaurant, remember to say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ when you receive it. On
the other hand, the Irish do not usually say anything for ‘bitte schön’ or ‘Guten Appetit.’ Make sure
that you queue up (e.g. when waiting for a bus) in the same way that the Irish do.
 Living in an Irish family is an important part of your trip. It is important that you accept that life is
different in different countries. You cannot expect things to be the same as at home. You can
expect your family to be clean and friendly. However, ‘clean’ does not necessarily mean as clean
as in Switzerland, which is probably the cleanest country in the world!
 A homestay is not always a family in the traditional sense. You may be staying with a single lady
or a married couple whose children have already left home. In many families both the husband
and wife go out to work. You will probably be given a key to the house – look after it very carefully!
 Do not treat your family as a hotel!
 Do not take any food or use the telephone without asking. You should pay for any phone calls you
make. In many Irish homes, the heating only comes on for a few hours in the morning and evening
and sometimes the houses are not as well insulated as a Swiss home because the climate is
somewhat milder. Make sure you take warm clothes with you.
 If your home is colder than expected, put on an extra layer of clothing! Do not spend too long in
the bathroom. You will be allowed to take a shower (or bath) at least once a day. You may find the
Irish watch a lot of TV. You can learn a lot from watching TV programmes. If you don’t understand
a programme, ask the family to explain what is happening.
 You should find that Irish cooking is not as bad as its reputation. Just accept that it may be
different from what you are used to at home.

TRAVEL TIPS
Before you go:
 You can take one suitcase (max 23 kg) and one piece of hand luggage.
 Make sure your suitcase is not too heavy. Remember you might want to buy things in Ireland.
 If your suitcase is heavier than 23 kg (even one kilo) you might get charged extra.
 Do not have liquids of more than 100ml in your hand luggage.
 Do not have sharp objects (pocket knives, scissors etc.) in your hand luggage.

 You should eat either before you go or at the airport as there will not be much time when we arrive
in Dublin.
 Leave the addresses of your host family and the school with your parents
At Zurich airport:
 We will meet at check-in at 07.50. I will be on the 06.42 train from St.Gallen (7:08 from Wil).
 You need your passport/ID to check in.
 We will all go together to check in and I will wait at check-in until everyone is checked in.
 Once we are checked in we’ll go straight through security. Once through security, watch the
departure screens so you know the gate and when to board. It takes 20 minutes to get to the
gates. You are responsible for catching the flight so don't be late at the gate.

TRAVEL TIPS
On arrival in Ireland:
 Go through passport control and follow the signs to baggage claim. Check the screens for the
correct carousel. After the flight we will meet at the baggage claim carousel and then head
together from there to the coach to Bray.
 Your host family will pick you up at the school or send a taxi to pick you up. They will pay for the
taxi.
For the return trip:
 Do not leave anything behind in your host family's house when you leave on Friday morning.
Please check your room for all your belongings (particularly money, credit cards, passports travel
documents, phones and chargers).
 Arrange with your host family to bring you and your luggage to school in the morning.
 If you are not flying back with us for any reason, please inform me in advance.
 You need your passport/ID to check in.
 The same rules for luggage apply for the return flight as for the outward flight. Maximum weight is
23 kg and one piece of hand baggage.
 A coach will take us to the airport.
 We will all go together to check in and I will wait at check-in until everyone is checked in.
 Once you are checked in go straight through security.
 Once through security watch the departure screens so you know the gate and when to board.
Remember some gates need longer to get to, so make sure you leave enough time. You are
responsible for catching the flight so don't be late at the gate.
 When you land in Zurich go through passport control and head to baggage claim. Watch the
screens to find the correct carousel. I will meet you at baggage claim. Once you have collected
your suitcase, come and say goodbye to me and then you can leave.

Speak English as much as possible. Mix with non-German speakers and your host family
Watch TV, go to the cinema
Buy a local and a national newspaper
Buy magazines on your hobbies (Snowboarding? Computers? Music? etc.)
Don’t expect the same luxury as at home
Accept that things are different in different countries
Your family is not a hotel
Keep a vocabulary book
Use the Self-study-centre at your school
Take part in the free time activities and excursions
