Bernard Richter is consolidating his status as one of
the most sought after lyric tenors of the present
generation. For the 2010-2011 season, engagements include LE
CHEVALIER DE LA FORCE Les Dialogues des Carmélites (Bayerische
Staatsoper München), DER STEUERMANN (Der fliegende Holländer) for
the Opera National de Paris, HENRY SMITH in Bizet’s La Jolie Fille de
Perth (Stadttheater Bern), CAMILLE DE ROSSILLON Die Lustige Witwe
(Grand Théâtre de Genève) and the title role of Lully’s Atys in a
prestigious anniversary production for Les Arts Florissants.
Bernard Richter began his studies in Neuchâtel where he studied with
Yves Senn, then was a member of the Opera Studio in Bienne, going
on in 2001 to become a finalist in the Concours International de
Paris. He was invited to spend a season at the Oper Leipzig where he
made his début as TAMINO. He subsequently appeared as a guest in
theatres including Luzern, Bern, Basel, Leipzig and Frankfurt, where
his numerous appearances brought him the admiration of audiences and
colleagues alike. Other highlights include FERRANDO Così fan tutte for
Theater Basel, PARIS La Belle Hélène and FRITZ La Grande Duchesse
de Gérolstein at Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris, CONTE ERRICO La Vera
Costanza at the Haydn Festival in Eisenstadt, and TAMINO at both the
Stadttheater Klagenfurt and Opera Ireland.
In the summer of 2005 he made his debut at the Salzburger Festspiele
as GUIDOBALDO in Franz Schrecker’s Die Gezeichneten, while further
significant projects in that period included the title role in LUCIO SILLA
(J.Ch. Bach) for Oper Zürich and HYLAS Les Troyens and THESPIS
Platée at Opéra National de Paris. For the Theater Freiburg he has
appeared in their Mozart trilogy in the title roles of Idomeneo, Lucio Silla
and Mitridate.
In demand world-wide as a concert-artist, appearances of note have
included PUBLIO ll Sogno di Scipione with the Berliner Symphoniker at
the Berliner Philharmonie, ACIS Acis und Galatea in concerts with Les
Musiciens du Louvre at the Salzburger Pfingsfestspiele. Other
concert and recital engagements have included Salle Gaveau de Paris
and Tonhalle Zürich, Victoria Hall Geneva (with Charles Spencer),
Mozart Tage Luzern and ARIEL Faustszenen for the Styriarte Graz,
Gewandhaus Leipzig and Weimar - where he sang FRANCESCO
Benvenuto Cellini with the MDR Orchestra. Most recently, in August
2009 he appeared with the Orchestra Sinfonica della Rai in Torino in
a programme of Schubert arias, has performed the title role in Il Ritorno
di Tobias (Haydn) with L’Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome and in the
Konzerthaus of Vienna.
He enjoys close associations with conductors including William Christie,
Gerhard Markson, Adam Fischer, Kent Nagano, Marc Minkowski, Jeffrey
Tate, Ivor Bolton, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Fabio Luisi, Fabio Biondi, Sir
Neville Mariner, Theodor Guschlbauer, Sylvain Cambreling, Asher Fisch,
Jonathan Nott, Manfred Huss, Theo Loosli, and directors including
Laurent Pelly, Christof Loy, Nikolaus Lehnoff, Keith Warner, Tobias
Moretti, Dieter Kaegi, Dimitri Cherniakov, Robert Bouvier, Karine Beyer,
Ludger Engels, Jean-Marie Villégier and Macha Makeieff.
