Born in Ansfelden not far from Linz, the person and the
musician remain mysterious and fascinating: a maverick
with some rather bizarre habits and an inventor beyond
comparison.
The exceptionally gifted and famous organist and church
musician transferred the instrument‘s sonority into his
massive symphonies.
He was the first one who ever to anticipate the montage
techniques in film practice – the cut, the fade-out and the
disolution. Nobody knows how he got that idea. Regarding
the history of music, Bruckner appears to be a meteor that
fell directly from the sky and he landed in Linz.

Nirgends wird und bleibt Bruckner lebendiger als in
seiner Musik. Mit ihr ist wohl kaum ein anderes
Orchester vertrauter.
Nowhere does Bruckner become and remain more
alive than in his music. Scarcely any other orchestra is
more familiar with it.
Im Wortsinn einmalig ist die Gelegenheit, wie Bruckner
zu hören. Die Orgel im Alten Dom von Linz, der
Ignatiuskirche in der Altstadt, macht es möglich.
It is literally a one-off opportunity to hear like Bruckner
did. However, this is possible with the organ at the Old
Cathedral in the historic city centre of Linz.
Es blickt auf eine 200-jährige Geschichte zurück und hat
die dichten Sinfonien des Genies unter dem Chefdirigenten Dennis Russell Davies eingespielt. Die Auseinandersetzung vor allem mit dem symphonischen Werk seines
Namensgebers bestimmt maßgeblich die Arbeit des auf
der ganzen Welt angesehenen Klangkörpers mit seinen
110 Musikerinnen und Musikern. Wenn das Orchester
nicht auf Gastspielreise unterwegs ist, ist es regelmäßig
in Linz zu erleben.

Looking back on 200 years of history, the orchestra has
recorded the genius‘ dense symphonies under the principal conductor Dennis Russell Davies.
Involvement with the symphonic work of the composer
it is named after is a substantial part of the work of the
orchestra, whose 110 musicians are renowned all over
the world. Unless it is touring elsewhere, the orchestra
performs concerts in Linz on a regular basis.

Der Alte Dom war Bruckners zweite Station als hauptberuflicher Organist. Das seinerzeit nach seinen Wünschen
modifizierte Instrument klingt heute noch so wie zu
Bruckners Zeiten. Das macht die Orgel auch einzigartig.
Die zur Orgel empor führende Brucknerstiege ist eine
reizvolle Gedenkstätte für den großen Tonschöpfer. Sie
bietet in Schaukästen eine übersichtliche Einführung
zu Anton Bruckner. Gekrönt wird sie von, auf der Linzer
Bruckner Orgel gespielter, Musik. Dafür stehen Kopfhörer
auf der Empore bereit.
The Old Cathedral was the second stage in Bruckner‘s
career as a full-time organist. Having been modified
to suit his wishes, the instrument still sounds like in
Bruckner‘s days. This is also what makes it unique. The
stairs of Brucknerstiege ascending to the organ are a
lovely memorial to the great sound creator. Its display
cases provide a clear and well-arranged introduction to
Anton Bruckner, which is crowned by music played on
the Bruckner Organ of St Florian. There are headphones
available in the gallery.

Architektenpaar Heikki und Kaja Sirén schuf das an der
Donau gelegene Wahrzeichen der Stadt. Als es um die
Namensfindung für das zeitlos schöne Konzerthaus ging,
brauchte es kein langes Nachdenken…
The success story of the culture city of Linz began in
the 1970s with the Brucknerhaus Linz. Heikki and Kaja
Sirén from Finland created the city‘s landmark on the
Danube. There were no second thoughts, when it came
to finding a name for this concert hall of timeless beauty.

St. Florian is only 20 minutes from Linz. A small town
with a great history.
In der kirchlichen Gemeinschaft des Augustiner Chorherrenstiftes tauchte Bruckner als Sängerknabe und später
als Stiftsorganist tief ins Universum der Musik ein. Hier
perfektionierte er sein Orgelspiel und schuf seine ersten
großen Kompositionen.
Der Reinklang der St. Florianer Sängerknaben, zu denen
auch der Sinfoniker gehörte, und der in St. Florian
gegossenen Kirchenglocken gehören ebenso dazu wie
Anton Bruckners Ruhestätte unter „seiner“ Orgel.
At the Christian community of the Augustiner Monastery
(Canons Regular of St. Augustine), Bruckner immersed
himself in the universe of music, first as a choirboy before
being appointed an organist.
This is where he honed his organ playing skills to perfection and created his first major compositions. The harmony of the St. Florian Boys Choir Bruckner once joined,
and of the church bells cast in St. Florian is part of this,
as well as Anton Bruckner‘s last resting place right below
„his“ organ.

Die Oberösterreichischen Stiftskonzerte, unter anderem im
Stift St. Florian, lassen die Musik Bruckners regelmäßig in
voller Klanggröße aus den Partituren auferstehen.

Brucknerorgel St. Florian
Franz Xaver Chrismann war der Meister, der ab 1770 das
später zu Ehren ihres größten Spielers „Anton Bruckner
Orgel“ genannte Instrument baute. Die Orgel wurde
seither erweitert und umfasst heute 4 Manuale, 103
Register und 7.386 Orgelpfeifen. Nach seinem Tod 1896
fand er hier seine letzte Ruhestätte.

Auch im Linzer Mariendom, Österreichs größter Kirche,
war Bruckner aktiv. Hier schrieb er seine berühmte
e-Moll-Messe. Regelmäßige Führungen und Konzerte bei
freiem Eintritt.

Hörerlebnis Brucknerorgel
Von Mitte Mai bis Mitte Oktober jeden Jahres bietet das
Augustiner Chorherrenstift fünf mal die Woche eine Führung verbunden mit einem kurzen Live-Konzert auf dem

Bruckner Organ St. Florian
It was in 1770, when the master Franz Xaver Chrismann
started building the instrument that was later named
„Anton Bruckner Organ“ in honour of its greatest player.
Since then, the organ has been extended and now has
4 manuals, 103 stops and 7,386 pipes. After his death
in 1896, Bruckner found his last resting place here.

Every year from mid-May to mid-October, the Augustiner
Monastery offers several guided tours per week including short live-concerts on the Bruckner Instrument, the
largest church organ in Austria. The concerts of
„St. Florianer Orgelfrühling“ are also recommendable.
