Herz Jesu church The Herz Jesu Church presents itself as an open, light and vivid building. The glass facade envelops an inner shell of maple lamella. Due to the contrasting material properties of these two cubes, which are set into one another, different colours and intensities of light shine into the church. The arrangement of the vertical lamella gradually increases the brightness of light towards the altar. At the same time, the opaque glazing shields views into the chancel from the outside. The Via Dolorosa with the Stations of the Cross is depicted in the space between the inner lamella cube and the outer glass cube. The front of the building is charaterised by large, intensive blue doors, which are opened on special occasions. The theme of the contrast and the simultanity of stability and morphological conversion is also resembled by the free-standing bell tower. It is covered by a metal weave which becomes increasingly denser towards the top. By means of the counter-designed shapes of the shells the image of a metaphysical space is evoked in the intersection of the altar area - this metaphysical space consists of a materialized, soft light in form of a translucent glass wall. As a contrast, the darker space in the area of the organ gallery becomes a conceivable or tangible body. The glasses of the outer shell are transparent there, the wooden corpus is visible from the outside, the casted shadow precise. Looking at the glass shell from outside by means of the continuously increasing non-transparency in form of a stronger and stronger glazing it seems to receive a cristalline materiality. The trees placed parallel to the longitudinal face of the church are first of all reflected and then depicted as shadows towards the end. 1 ALLM AN N SATT LER WAPPN ER .
