aormina, die sizilianische Stadt nördlich
Catanias, erfüllt so ziemlich alle Anforderungen, die der Reisende an eine mediterranitalienische Stadt nur stellen kann: eine
bezaubernde Lage auf einem Hügel über dem
Meer, Ausblicke auf das Wasser, auf die
spannende Küste und ins Hinterland – in
diesem Fall Richtung Ätna, auf den Vulkan,
der immer wieder kleine Lavaströme emporschießen lässt. Man wandert durch enge
Gassen, schlendert den Corso Umberto
entlang, erholt sich auf kleinen Plätzen, wirft
sehnsuchtsvolle Blicke in die zahlreichen
Pasticcerias, die bunte Süßigkeiten aus
Marzipan, Zucker und Fruchtgelee verkaufen,
besucht barocke Kirchen und das Teatro
Greco, spaziert an mächtigen Palästen vorbei
und speist in kleinen, feinen Trattorien. Kein
Wunder, dass Filmstars, berühmte Schriftsteller und etliche gekrönte Häupter den Ort
immer wieder aufgesucht haben. Lieblingshotel dieser anspruchsvollen Reisenden war
