Message of the UEFA President
The UEFA Women’s EURO 2009 & Beyond
The 2009 Women’s EURO in Finland was the first European Women’s
Championship since my election as UEFA President. I am proud to be associated
with the tournament, which was hosted with great enthusiasm by the Finnish FA.
The women’s game is continuing to improve and the increase in the number of
teams participating in the final round gave more teams the experience of top class
tournament football. The quality of the games was high and most games were close, creating moments of
high excitement. The development of the women’s game is, to a large extent, also the result of an increasing
wealth of coaching competence across Europe. This was highlighted when Hope Powell and Silvia Neid, two
very experienced coaches, disputed the final in Helsinki. Our special congratulations, once again, go to the
German FA for its repeated success, a historic fifth consecutive win.
As a follow-up to the tournament in Finland, UEFA provides the women's national team coaches of all
European member associations with an opportunity to analyse and to review the competition at this
Women's National Team Coaches Conference at the House of European Football. The technical report of
the UEFA Women’s EURO 2009, together with visual material, has been produced and the contents will be
presented and distributed to the conference participants. Other issues related to the women’s game,
including recent trends will be discussed at this event which will also be an opportunity for personal
exchange amongst the top international technicians. I take this opportunity to thank the members of UEFA
Technical Team for their contributions to the technical analysis and this technical event.
I hope you enjoy the occasion, and wish you a pleasant stay at your home in Nyon.

Message du président de l'UEFA
Expérience de l’UEFA EURO 2009
L’EURO féminin de l'UEFA 2009 en Finlande a été mon premier tour final du
Championnat d’Europe féminin de l’UEFA depuis mon élection en tant que
président de l’UEFA. Je suis fier que mon nom soit associé à ce tournoi, qui a été
organisé avec grand enthousiasme par l'Association finlandaise de football. Le
football féminin est en pleine expansion et l’augmentation du nombre d’équipes
participant à ce tour final a donné à davantage de joueuses l’occasion d’acquérir l’expérience d’un tournoi
de football d’élite. La qualité des matches était très élevée et la plupart des résultats ont été très serrés, d’où
des moments de suspense intense. Le développement actuel du football féminin est largement dû à la
richesse croissante des compétences des femmes entraîneurs en Europe, comme la présence en finale à
Helsinki de deux femmes entraîneurs très expérimentées, Hope Powell et Silvia Neid, le prouve. Nos
félicitations vont, une fois encore, à la Fédération allemande de football, qui célèbre sa cinquième victoire
consécutive, une série historique!
En guise de suivi au tournoi en Finlande, l’UEFA donne aux entraîneurs des équipes nationales féminines
de toutes les associations membres de l’UEFA la possibilité d’analyser et de passer en revue la compétition
à l’occasion de la Conférence des entraîneurs d’équipes nationales féminines, organisée à la Maison du
football européen. Le rapport technique sur l’EURO féminin de l’UEFA 2009 ainsi que du matériel visuel ont
été produits et seront présentés et distribués aux participants à la conférence. D’autres thèmes relatifs au
football féminin, y compris les dernières tendances en la matière, seront discutés lors de cet événement, qui
constituera également une occasion d'échange entre entraîneurs internationaux d’élite. Je profite de cette
opportunité qui m’est offerte pour remercier les membres de l’équipe technique de l’UEFA pour leur
contribution à l’analyse technique et à cette conférence spécialisée.
J’espère que cette rencontre sera fructueuse et je vous souhaite un excellent séjour dans votre maison, à
Nyon.

Die UEFA Women’s EURO 2009 – Analyse und Ausblick
Die UEFA Women’s EURO 2009 in Finnland war die erste Endrunde der FrauenEuropameisterschaft seit meiner Wahl zum UEFA-Präsidenten. Ich bin stolz, an
diesem Turnier, das vom finnischen Verband mit viel Leidenschaft organisiert
wurde, beteiligt gewesen zu sein. Der Frauenfussball macht weiter Fortschritte.
Durch die Aufstockung des Teilnehmerfelds bei der Endrunde erhielten mehr Teams die Gelegenheit, ein
Turnier auf höchster Ebene zu bestreiten. Die Qualität der Begegnungen war hoch und die meisten Spiele
gingen knapp aus – an Spannung fehlte es nie. Die positive Entwicklung des Frauenfussballs ist zu einem
grossen Teil den in ganz Europa erzielten Fortschritten in der Trainerausbildung zu verdanken. So standen
beim Finale in Helsinki mit Hope Powell und Silvia Neid zwei sehr erfahrene Trainerinnen an der Seitenlinie.
Einmal mehr dürfen wir dem DFB zum Europameistertitel gratulieren, dem fünften in Serie – ein historischer
Erfolg.
Im Anschluss an die Endrunde in Finnland möchte die UEFA im Rahmen dieser Konferenz für FrauenNationaltrainer den Coaches der Frauennationalteams aller europäischen Verbände die Möglichkeit geben,
auf den Wettbewerb zurückzublicken. Mittlerweile liegt der technische Bericht zur UEFA Women’s EURO
2009 mit Bildmaterial vor. Er wird den Teilnehmern präsentiert und an sie verteilt werden. Weitere Fragen
betreffend den Frauenfussball werden bei diesem Treffen zur Sprache kommen, das auch eine
ausgezeichnete Gelegenheit für die internationalen Spitzentrainer zum persönlichen Austausch sein wird.
An dieser Stelle möchte ich auch den Mitgliedern des technischen Teams der UEFA für ihre Beiträge zur
technischen Analyse und zu dieser Konferenz danken.
Ich hoffe, dass Ihnen die Veranstaltung gefallen wird und Sie einen angenehmen Aufenthalt in Ihrem
Zuhause in Nyon haben werden.
