The Spectators’ Quick Rules
Water Polo
of
• If you have the ball you cannot use your free hand to push attackers way or it is a turnover.(This means the
other team is given the ball)
• You cannot touch the ball with two hands unless you are the goalie. The goalie can touch the ball with two
hands up to the 4 meter line.
• If you are chasing an opponent on a breakaway you cannot pull his legs or shoulders. (This is called
impeding a breakaway and is a major foul.)
• Your team has 35 seconds to shoot or the ball will be turned over.
• Don’t hit the ball with a fist.(bad idea)
• You can’t intentionally splash your opponent. This means that you can’t be mean and splash your opponent’s face when he is going to make a pass or shot. If you accidentally splash your opponent then that’s
OK.
• You cannot pass the 2 meter line before the ball does.(Like the blue line in hockey)
• If you have just been fouled then you cannot shoot. You can shoot once you have passed to someone and
they pass back.
• If you put the ball underwater then the referee will call a turnover foul.
• You cannot push someone under the water if they do not have the ball. (This is a minor foul which means
the referee will stop the play and give the ball to the player that got pushed underwater.)
• The game is composed of 4 quarters of 8 minutes.
• When a goal is scored, teams line up at center and possession of ball is given to the non-scoring team.
Pass the ball back towards your own net to start play.(usually the goalie)

• Si vous avez le ballon, vous ne pouvez pas utiliser votre main libre pour pousser les attaquantes ou les
attaquants, ou le ballon sera remis à l’équipe adverse.
• Vous ne pouvez pas toucher le ballon avec les deux mains à moins que vous ne soyez gardienne ou
gardien de but. La gardienne ou le gardien de but peut toucher le ballon avec les deux mains jusqu’à la
ligne de 4 mètres.
• Si vous pourchassez l’adversaire sur une percée, vous ne pouvez pas tirer ses jambes ou ses épaules.
(Ceci est appelé gêner une percée et est considéré comme une faute grave.
• Votre équipe a 35 secondes pour tirer au but ou le ballon sera remis à l’adversaire.
• Ne frappez pas le ballon avec le poing (mauvaise idée).
• Vous ne pouvez pas éclabousser volontairement votre adversaire. Cela signifie que vous ne pouvez
pas faire preuve de méchanceté et arroser votre adversaire au visage au moment où elle ou il s’apprête à
passer ou à tirer. Vous pouvez cependant éclabousser votre adversaire accidentellement.
• Vous ne pouvez pas dépasser la ligne de 2 mètres avant le ballon (comme la ligne bleue au hockey).
• Si vous venez d’être victime d’une faute, vous ne pouvez pas tirer au but. Vous pouvez tirer une fois que
vous avez effectué une passe et que le ballon vous a été remis.
• Si vous immergez le ballon, l’arbitre le remettra à l’équipe adverse.
• Vous ne pouvez pas pousser quelqu’un sous l’eau si elle ou s’il n’est pas en possession du ballon. (C’est
une faute mineure en ce sens que l’arbitre arrêtera le jeu et remettra le ballon à la joueuse ou au joueur qui
a été poussé(e) sous l’eau).
• La partie compte quatre quarts de 8 minutes.
• Quand un but est marqué, les équipes s’alignent au centre et la possession du ballon est accordée à
l’équipe qui n’a pas marqué. Passer le ballon vers votre propre filet pour commencer le jeu (habituellement
la gardienne ou le gardien).

* The game is four eight-minute quarters.
* The team in possession of the ball has 35 seconds to shoot or it is turned over to the other team.
* When a goal is scored the teams line up at centre and the ball is given to the non-scoring team. Play
begins when the ball is passed back, usually to the goaltender.
* Individuals cannot pass the 2 metre line before the ball or it is an offside.
* If you have the ball you cannot use your free hand to push an attacker or it is a turnover.

* Recognizing accidents happen, it is still illegal to intentionally splash an opponent.

* An individual cannot be pushed under the water when not in possession of the ball. This minor foul will
result in the offended player being given the ball.

national team. Boyd has won three national
level titles with his club team and has played
in various international tournaments.

of eight, when he joined Aqua Polo de Hull.
Originally from the former Yugoslavia, he

fifteen and since then has travelled around the

Dusko Dakic

Devon Diggle
Diggle began playing for his club team, DDO,
where he experienced a great deal of success.
Hoping to translate his domestic triumphs
into international success began with his first
national team appearance in 2004.

Diggle a commencé à jouer pour son équipe

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
Feltham began playing at age 9 in Lindsay,
Ontario. His club career began with the
Lindsay Blue Devils before he moved clubs at
the age of 15.Feltham represented a number
of Ontario teams before finding a home with
the Ottawa. The move to Ottawa came with
the opportunity to play at a higher level with
more players of the same age and Feltham
remained in Ottawa until he completed his
high school education. Upon graduation,
Feltham moved again, this time to Calgary,
where he centralized in 2001.

Feltham considers his shooting and hard
defense to be his strengths in the pool. He is
a leader who feels his intensity in the pool is
what makes him stand out.

Hobbies & Education
Feltham is currently on a brief leave of
absence from his studies at Mt. Royal College,
in Calgary. He has one year remaining in the
Bachelor of Applied Ecotourism and Outdoor
Leadership. Feltham is currently not enrolled
in order to train and play more to pursue his
dream of playing in Europe and also to play in
the Olympics. Feltham is currently on hiatus
from post secondary studies as his commitments to waterpolo, both with Canada and his

Feltham a commencé à jouer à l'âge de 9 ans,
à Lindsay, Ontario. Sa carrière a commencé

Objectifs
Feltham est actuellement en bref congé
d'études au Collège Mt. Royal de Calgary. Il
lui reste une année à compléter au baccalauréat en écotourisme appliqué et leadership
du plein air. Feltham n'est actuellement pas
aux études afin de s'entraîner et de jouer
davantage pour poursuivre son rêve de jouer
en Europe et aussi aux Olympiques. Il a interrompu ses études postsecondaires parce
que ses engagements en water polo, tant au
Canada qu'avec son équipe de club hongrois
le Brendon ZF UPC Eger, l'empêche de continuer ses études.

Glisic began his career at the age of 12, and
at 15 was a full-time goaltender. In 2002,
Glisic was invited to join the club team in Hull,
where he realized he had the opportunity to
represent his country in the sport he loved.

Glisic a commencé sa carrière à l'âge de 12

plein. En 2002, Glisic a été invité à se joindre
à l'équipe du club de Hull, où il a réalisé qu'il
avait la possibilité de représenter son pays
dans le sport qu'il aime.

Graham started his career in 1994, he he
enrolled with the Regina Squids as a part of
the Learn To Play program. Graham moved
from Regina to Calgary to centralize with the
national team in 2004, before heading to a
much warmer climate, Australia, where he
played for Sydney Wests in the Australian
national water polo league. After completing
the 2006/-07 season with the Australian side,
Graham then moved on to Montenegro, where
he currently plays with PVK Jadran.
Strengths
Graham considers himself a self-confident
athlete who is highly motivated to excel in any
endeavour he happens to undertake.

Hobbies & Education
Graham is a graduate from the Dr. Martin
LeBoldus High School with high honours,
an average of 90 percent. He was awarded
the Most Outstanding Volleyball Player in his
senior year. When he has a few moments for
downtime, Graham enjoys various sports, his
time with family and friends, and is an avid
traveller.

Kevin a commencé à jouer au Water Polo en
1995 lorsqu'il a participé au programme “Learn
to Play” du Club Regina Squids. Graham
a déménagé ensuite de Regina à Calgary
pour s'entraîner avec l'équipe nationale en
2004, avant de prendre la direction d'un climat beaucoup plus chaud, en Australie, où
il a joué pour les Wests de Sydney dans la
Ligue nationale australienne de water polo.
Après avoir terminé la saison 2006/07 chez

Marks, captain of the national team, was first
introduced to water polo by his father. At the
age of 10, Marks was a member of a very
successful Pacific Storm team, which won
eight-straight national championships, all of
which Marks was apart of. He then went on to
become a member of the junior national team
that reached the top eight at world championships in 1999 in Kuwait. He made the national
team in 2001 and has competed in four World
Championships for Canada, with the most
recent as team captain in Melbourne 2007,
where the placed inside the top twelve for
the first time in history. Marks was also one
the first Canadian team to ever qualify for the
Olympic Games by finishing inside the top
four at the Olympic Qualification tournament
in Romania.

members, began his career in Montreal. Miller
moved to Calgary in 1999 in hopes of making
the national team. Upon his arrival, Miller has
an immediate impact and his performances of
the international stage has led him to professional stints in France, Brazil and Montenegro.
He is also the first Canadian to participate in
the European Champions League and the Len
Trophy.

team. Randall's shot-blocking talents have
led him across the globe, including a stint in
Australia, where he continues to play today.

By Grade 9, Nic Youngblud knew that water polo was
a pretty cool sport. He started as an offensive player,
but when the opportunity to goaltend came up, he
took itand was very good at it.
At one of Hamilton's high school tournaments, his
incredible skills caught the eye of Quinn Fairley, the
coach of the Hamilton city team, who recruited him to
play for the Hamilton Aquatic Water Polo Club. With
Quinn's coaching, he made it to the national youth
team in November of 1997 and continued with that
team until the end of August of 2001. In his career
with the Junior Team, he played for Canada's silver
medal winning team at the 2000 Pan-Am Games
in Venezuela. He also played at the Junior 2001
World's in Turkey. With the Senior National Team,
Nic played in the 2003 Cairo International Water Polo
Tournament, where Team Canada took the gold and in
the 2003 Mintal Memorial Water Polo Tournament in
Turkey, where they took the silver.
Nic is now one of two goalies of the Men's National
Team and has competed at the Pan-American games,
the International University Sports Federation games
and the World Aquatic championships.

Strengths
His persistence, dedication and excellent play resulted
in becoming a member of the Senior Men's National
team in September 2002.

Déjà en 9e année, Nic Youngblud savait que le water
polo était un sport branché. Il a commencé comme
joueur offensif, mais quand l'opportunité de garder les

Lors d'un tournoi d'école secondaire à Hamilton,
Quinn Fairley, l'entraîneur de l'équipe de la ville de
Hamilton, a été impressionné par les remarquables

rangs du club de water polo Hamilton Aquatic. Sous la
direction de Quinn, il s'est rendu à l'équipe nationale

de sa carrière avec l'équipe junior, il a fait partie de
l'équipe gagnante de la médaille d'argent aux Jeux

joué aux Mondiaux juniors de 2001 en Turquie. Avec
l'équipe nationale senior, Nic a participé au Tournoi
international de water polo du Caire, en 2003, où le
Canada a remporté l'or et au Tournoi Mintal Memorial
de 2003, en Turquie, où les Canadiens ont remporté
l'argent.
Nic est maintenant le gardien partant de l'Équipe
nationale masculine avec laquelle il a participé aux
Jeux Panaméricains, aux Jeux de la Fédération
internationale des sports universitaires et aux
Championnats du monde aquatiques.
