Overwhelming Success for MedTech Summit in Switzerland
Geneva, November 26th 2008 – The European Tech Tour MedTech Summit was held in
Montreux and Lausanne, Switzerland on November 19 and 20, 2008. This first and very
successful MedTech summit aimed at bringing together Europe’s most promising MedTech
companies, leading venture capitalists and senior industry professionals.
Brian Hashemi, President of the MedTech Summit, Beat Mertz, Vice President, and the 22
senior professionals serving on the International Selection Committee selected 24
companies from an initial list of 240 companies for presentation at the Summit. The finalists

Diagnostics, and Imaging.” Each company had twenty minutes to present their business
plans to an international delegation of more than 100 influential investors, technology
industry leaders and service providers who had signed up for the event with a view to
investing or supporting these young companies achieve their globalization plans.
The MedTech Summit aimed to assemble the ecosystem of European Medtech by bringing
together the CEOs of the most promising MedTech companies, the investment professionals
that finance this sector, and senior industry professionals from the global firms that drive the
industry. Among the global firms represented at the Summit were Advanced Medical Optics
(AMO), Boston Scientific, Edwards Lifesciences, Synthes, Zimmer, and of course Medtronic,
the sponsoring partner for the event. The Summit also attracted representatives from over
30 investment firms from the United States, Europe, and Israel and generated a lot of
positive interest in the media.
Scott Parazynski, a medical doctor, MedTech inventor, and NASA Astronaut held the
keynote address at the opening gala dinner that was staged at Château de Chillon in
Montreux and demonstrated that medical technologies are vital in extreme environments
such as space travel and exploration.
Summit to showcase 24 outstanding European MedTech companies
Geneva, November 11th, 2008 – The European Tech Tour MedTech Summit will open in
Montreux, Switzerland on November 19th, 2008. The Summit will bring together Europe’s
most innovative Medical Technology companies with leading venture capitalists and leading
industry professionals. The Summit is a unique assembly of the ecosystem for MedTech
in Europe, a market that will attract over 5 billion USD of private investment globally.
The Summit will showcase 24 outstanding European and Israeli MedTech companies chosen
competitively by a Selection Committee of 20 leading investment professionals and corporate
executives; the committee reviewed and evaluated a large number of applications before
nominating the finalists. Dr. Brian Hashemi, President of the 2008 European MedTech

The Summit will explore the future of the MedTech innovation and Scott Parazynski, a

The CEOs of the 24 selected companies come from Switzerland, Germany, Israel,

have twenty minutes to present their business plan to an international delegation of more
than 100 influential investors, MedTech industry leaders, and other leading industry
professionals who have signed up for the event with a view to investing or aiding these
companies achieve their globalisation plans. These delegates come from across Europe, the
United States, Israel, China, and Japan and will participate in discussion on important issues
facing the industry such as refinancing, growth, and exits in turbulent times, trends in
medicine and technology, healthcare systems, individualized medicine, consumer directed
care, and reimbursement of medical technologies.
Summit participants will continue with the program at Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de
Lausanne on November 20th where they will receive a welcome presentation by Professor

Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) where President Patrick Aebischer
presented a welcome speech highlighting important innovations in technology and life
sciences at this world-renowned technical institution. Among the attendees were CEOs of
medical technology companies that are spin off of EPFL.
