This particular series, entitled “My hood” aims to pay homage to his community: he explores the intricate features of his neighborhood, Nima, which by many is considered a major slum community. Working for years in the performing arts, he finally decided a couple of years ago to explore his musical project and launch his album. This concert will be conducted in collaboration with Nofaako orchestra with the pianist Victor Dey, legendary drummer Frank Kissi (who played for Fela Kuti), upcoming guitarist Kyekyeku, bassist Manou Fala, and percussionist Tsoboe Alex. The uncollected plays of Efo Kodjo Mawugbe have instilled Black Box with their unsettled and unsettling energy. The question in all its acuteness is as follows. How can a human being find clothes and shelter in a poisoned and mutant world, how can one continue to live, to work, to create, for oneself and for others? Papa Ayivi, reject among rejects, is still standing, most of the time. His presence and his harrowing-hilarious actions in the versatile and dubious world where he lives reveal a maternal man who refuses to give up fighting. His delirious alienation will lead him perhaps not to save his entire people but at least to attempt to save a single being. But is there still time? coming soon: live in accra -jazz festival! 24th April - 3rd May 2015 various venues across accra “Live in Accra” 2014, it was 16 events over 3 weeks, 8 live performances in 4 venues, 2 sound engineering workshops, 3 music masterclasses, 2 film screenings, 1 poetry workshop, and over 1,500 audience members and participants overall. The 2015 edition will be even better and bigger and together we will celebrate jazz and folk music in Accra and rekindle with the bustling live scene that existed in Accra in the 60s and 70s. Stay tune for the final program! 10% of the ticket sales will be donated to the Efo Kodjo Mawugbe Foundation.
