CULTURAL AGENDA
edito
What do we know about our francophone neighbours? At Alliance Francaise,
we see many young professionals who come to attend our French classes and
improve their chances to find employment as bilingualism is getting so important in the workplace. But more than the language, there is a lot to discover from
the countries surrounding us. Francophonie 2015 will be a celebration of all
these cultures, whether they are in Africa or the rest of the world.

Baba Musah Swallah is a professional artist born and raised in the densely populated community of Nima in the heart of Accra, Ghana. His painting, sculpture,
and mixed media works render stories that reflect everyday life. This particular
series, entitled “My hood” aims to pay homage to his community: he explores
the intricate features of his neighborhood, Nima, which by many is considered
a major slum community. The current artistic director of Nima Muhinmanchi
Art (NMA) presents an exhibition going beyond the stereotypes and reflecting
the complex and multi-ethnic aspects of Nima.

really young age. Working for years in the performing arts, he finally decided
a couple of years ago to explore his musical project and launch his album. His
singular style combining traditional Ghanaian music - such as agbadza - and
salsa rhythms, will undoubtedly make you dance. This concert will be conducted in collaboration with Nofaako orchestra with the pianist Victor Dey, legendary drummer Frank Kissi (who played for Fela Kuti), upcoming guitarist
Kyekyeku, bassist Manou Fala, and percussionist Tsoboe Alex.

The uncollected plays of Efo Kodjo Mawugbe have instilled Black Box with
their unsettled and unsettling energy. The question in all its acuteness is as
follows. How can a human being find clothes and shelter in a poisoned and
mutant world, how can one continue to live, to work, to create, for oneself and
for others? Papa Ayivi, reject among rejects, is still standing, most of the time.
His presence and his harrowing-hilarious actions in the versatile and dubious
world where he lives reveal a maternal man who refuses to give up fighting. His
delirious alienation will lead him perhaps not to save his entire people but at
least to attempt to save a single being. But is there still time?
