WE ARE WOLVES
Une gang de trois, quatre avec le rock. We Are Wolves impose une musique honnête et libre comme la
foudre céleste sur la montagne mythique. C’est un paysage post-punk avec des arbres analogues, comme
le rock après l’explosion post-moderne.
Leur son primitif est à l’image de leur nom. Animal! Fans de musique rock et électronique, des Cramps à
Add N to X, c’est à la jonction du punk et de l’électro que les loups ont fait leur tanière. « Non Stop Je te
Plie en Deux », le premier disque des loups, voit le jour en 2005 sur la mythique étiquette américaine Fat
Possum. Viennent ensuite les articles dans le Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Spin, et des concerts dans des
festivals internationaux tel Le Rock dans tous ses états, les Eurokéennes, le Festival de Dour, SXSW,
CMJ, Virgin Festival et Osheaga. We Are Wolves effectue une première tournée nord américaine au
printemps 2005 avec …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead et The (International) Noise
Conspiracy , puis une seconde en 2006 avec The Gossip, en plus de faire plusieurs dates aux États-Unis et
au Canada en solo. Ils partagent également une tournée Européenne de 5 semaines avec Duchess Says
durant l’été de cette même année.
Désormais représenté par une étiquette montréalaise, We Are Wolves sort son deuxième album « Total
magique » sur Dare to Care Records à l’automne 2007. Cet album leur a valu de la bonne presse
notamment dans le NY Times, CMJ Report et Spin en plus de gagner divers prix tels que le M-Galaxie de
M pour Montréal (voté par 35 délégués internationaux), un MIMI pour l’« artiste ayant le meilleur
potentiel international ») et un Bucky (« meilleure raison d’apprendre le français ») et 4 nominations (dont
« artiste et spectacle de l’année ») pour le GAMIQ de septembre 2008. Leur premier vidéoclip pour la
chanson « Fight and Kiss », réalisé par Jérémie Saindon, a été nommé buzzclip à Musique Plus en plus
d’obtenir une forte rotation sur les ondes de la station musicale, de parcourir les divers festivals de
vidéoclips et de faire résidence au Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal pour l’été. Après plus d’une
cinquantaine de spectacles à travers le Canada et les États-Unis fin 2007, début 2008, le trio s’est rendu à
deux reprises sur le vieux continent pour présenter leur album. L’été 2008 a été l’occasion pour les trois
loups de participer au Festival International de Jazz, ainsi qu’aux célébrations entourant le 400e de la ville
de Québec. En septembre, le groupe gagnait le Gémeaux pour « meilleur thème musical : toutes
catégories » pour leur production originale de la musique d’introduction de l’émission Bazzo.tv. L’année
2008 s’est terminée avec une deuxième tournée à travers le Canada et les États-Unis ainsi qu’une
troisième tournée en Europe.
En 2009, le groupe lançait « Total Magique » en Europe sur Republic of Music. NME a qualifié We Are
Wolves comme étant « Out to unbutton starched collars and cause stiff upper lips to wobble » donnant une
note de 8 sur 10 à l’album. Au printemps, ils sont retournés en Europe à deux reprises et ont participé à
plusieurs festivals, dont le Great Escape. De retour à la maison, en juin, le trio lupin participait au Festival
de théâtre de rue de Lachine, où We Are Wolves a été jumelé pour un spectacle inédit avec Doedel, une
troupe de Hollande qui joue avec le feu, mais littéralement. Trois soirs durant, le groupe a joué en direct la
trame sonore du spectacle, enfermé dans une cage suspendue au-dessus de multiples brasiers. Le groupe
travaille présentement sur son troisième album, dont la sortie est prévue en octobre 2009.

A gang of three, four including rock. We Are Wolves imposes a music that’s both free and honest, like the
celestial lightning on the mystic mountain. It’s a post-punk landscape filled with analogue trees, like rock
after the post-modern explosion.
Their primitive sound matches perfectly with the band’s name. It’s animal. Rock and electro music fans
from The Cramps to Add N to X, it’s at the junction of those two movements that We Are Wolves made
their den. In 2005, they released the album "Non Stop Je te Plie en Deux" on the mythic American label
Fat Possum. The press soon followed with articles in Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Spin and shows in famous
international festivals like Le Rock dans tous ses états, Les Eurokéennes, Dour Festival, SXSW, CMJ,
Virgin Festival and Osheaga. We Are Wolves had their first North American tour in Spring 2005 opening
for … And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead and The (International) Noise Conspiracy. A second
one came in 2006 supporting the Gossip plus some solo dates across Canada and the States. They also had
a 5 weeks tour in Europe with Montreal act Duchess Says, in Summer 2006.
We Are Wolves are now on a Montreal label and presented their second full-length album “Total
Magique” on September 4th and in the U.S on October 2nd 2007. This critically acclaimed album received
good press with articles in the NY Times, CMJ Report and Spin Magazine. They also received awards like
the M-Galaxie Rising Star (voted by 35 international delegates), a MIMI (artist with the most international
potential), a Bucky Award for Best reason to learn French and 4 nominations for September 2008’s
GAMIQ (Artist and show of the year). Their first video for “Fight and Kiss” directed by Jérémie Saindon
was voted buzzclip on Musique Plus, got heavy rotation on the music channels, the video is part of
International videos festivals and has been selected to have a residency at Montreal Contemporary Art
Museum. After more than 50 concerts across Canada and the United States at the end of 2007-beginning
of 2008, the trio went on tour twice in Europe to present their album. In summer 2008 they were part of
Montreal’s International Jazz Fest festivities and Quebec City 400th Anniversary. In September 2008, We
Are Wolves won a Gémeaux award in the “Best musical theme: all categories” for the opening score of
the critically-acclaimed TV show Bazzo.tv, on Télé-Québec. 2008 ended with a second tour across
Canada and the U.S and a third tour of Europe.
In 2009 the band released “Total Magique” in Europe on Republic of Music. NME quoted that We Are
Wolves were “"Out to unbutton starched collars and cause stiff upper lips to wobble” and gave the album
a 8/10 score. During spring, the band toured Europe again on two different occasions and was part of
festivals such as The Great Escape. Back home in June, they took part in the Festival de théâtre de rue de
Lachine, where they were matched with Holland’s Doedel Company for a 3 nights residency. Let’s say the
show gave another meaning to “setting a stage on fire” as We Are Wolves played a live soundtrack to the
performance, while being in a cage, suspended in the air, right next to several blazin’ fires. Right now,
they are recording the follow up to “Total Magique”, which will be out in October 2009.
