CORENA – Regional Cooperation in the Field of Natural Products
Creation of a Regional Network for Research and Development on Regional Natural
Products: Innovative Agents for Medicine and Agriculture
INTERREG IV A 2007-2013 Greater Region
35 GR 1 1 051
abstract
The overall aim of CORENA is to promote the use of natural products in medicine and
agriculture.
Bringing together universities, research institutes and SMEs active in this field, the
project provides the link between research, development and application in the Greater Region. By constant scientific exchange, the partners will establish a cross-border
network which will be competitive on an international scale.
In medicine, the partners of CORENA carry out research on the health benefits of antioxidants and new therapeutic agents from natural products. With regard to agriculture, the goal is to develop ‘green’ pesticides. In contrast to conventional pesticides,
those substances neither harm the environment nor the people consuming agricultural products.
The technology transfer initiated throughout the lifetime of the project will enhance
the innovative potential of the Greater Region in the area of natural products.
