Réflexion d’artiste / Artist statement
J’apprécie la simple sérénité de la
création, d’être présent et de trouver
ma voie à travers ce processus créatif.
En surface, mon œuvre porte sur la
réflexion, et la recherche objective de
quelque chose se trouvant juste au-delà
de ce qui est devant moi. C’est une
tentative en vue de capter le
mouvement, la passion et un sens d’un
endroit familier.
Chaque pièce comporte un début bien
défini, mais l’œuvre me laisse rarement
savoir dans quelle direction elle ira ni à
quel moment elle sera terminée.
Travaillant surtout à l’huile, j’ajoute des
couches de formes et de couleurs et je
poursuis
intuitivement,
tout
en
changeant, recouvrant, même rejetant
sans cesse certains éléments au fur et à
mesure.
Le
fait
de
repenser
constamment la surface me semble une
étape importante; il s’agit là de ma
recherche interne pour assurer ma
connexion nécessaire et intangible
avec l’œuvre. Parfois, je peins un sketch
de mes pensées et de mes émotions, et
même si le processus me laisse
vulnérable autant au triomphe qu’à
l’échec, cela me donne un sens de
poursuivre un objectif bien précis, ce qui
m’est très encourageant.
Puisque je n’ai aucune idée où cela me
mènera, chaque pièce est un parcours
en soi. Dans mon œuvre, je cherche
toujours à voir derrière le voile de la
réalité afin d’avoir un aperçu de cet
esprit élusif qui est présent dans la
nature et dans toute chose.
I enjoy the simple serenity afforded by
creating - to be in the moment and to
find my voice through the creative
process. On the surface, my work is
based on reflection and the objective
search for the nature of something that
can be found in what is around me. It is
the attempt to capture the movement,
the passion, and the familiar.
Each work begins with a definite
purpose but the process rarely allows
me to know where it will take me nor
when it will be complete. I work mainly
with oil paint, adding layers of form and
colour and, as I proceed intuitively, I
change, rework, and even reject
elements. This constant rethinking and
reworking the surface seems to me to
be an important step: it is about my
internal search to make sure there is a
vital
and
intangible
connection
between me and the work. Sometimes
I paint a sketch of my thoughts and
emotions even if, in doing so, I am
somewhat vulnerable to reward or
failure, it gives me a way to follow a
well-defined objective, which is very
helpful.
Even though I have no idea where
something will take me, each piece is a
journey to self-discovery. My work is a
constant search to see behind the veil
of reality in order to capture the elusive
spirit which is present in nature and in all
things.
