METEC mainly includes 12 large companies and employs 12,000 employees. It has a maximum
authorized capital of 10 billion birr.

1. Civil activities
The Ethiopian government has great hopes on the public company METEC, after the military activity and
now aims to develop in civilian activities; finding inspiration in the Asian model (China, South Korea, ...),
Ethiopia sees the conglomerate METEC a base for industrial development (mechanical and
electromechanical equipment, agricultural machinery, transport equipment, etc.).
With this in mind, foreign investors are thus strongly encouraged to develop cooperation and
technology transfer with METEC.
METEC is aware that industrial development will involve the acquisition of knowledge and skills with
more ambitious Western industrial players than the first level agreements passed in the past, with
Chinese, Russian and North Korean companies.

Main strategic development orientations :
METEC officially fixed 9 objectives:
1 - create, build and manage its large industrial companies in civil domain
2 - their maintenance and modernization;
3 - manufacture industrial tools, machinery and spare parts necessary thereto;
4 - Develop engineering and national technological and industrial capabilities;
5 - to produce and manufacture the necessary weapons to defense and national security for combat and
military operations;
6 - sell its products on the domestic market and outside, in compliance with laws;
7 - build technological capabilities in defense matters, identifying future needs, through research and
development;
8 - as directed by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, to ensure macroeconomic
stability, sell and issue bonds, negotiate and sign loan agreements with local and international donors;
9 - undertake what is necessary to achieve the objectives above. The realization and implementation of
the GROWTH & TRANSFORMATION PLAN is at heart of Metec ‘s activities
