1 - DEFINITION:
The American International Section at Saint Vincent-Providence is a rigorous academic program which
allows its students to conduct high-level study of the English language while at the same time acquiring a
broad cultural education. This course of study constitutes a considerable asset for any future profession, even
in scientific fields, which demands an understanding of two languages and two cultures. Students of this
section will have the possibility to take the international DNB ( Diplôme National du Brevet), at the end of their
3ème and the OIB (Option Internationale au Baccalauréat), at the end of their secondary school studies. The
OIB diploma is awarded to students who possess exceptional linguistic skills. High school students take all the
baccalaureate exams in their series (L, S or ES), except English and History-Geography, whose oral and
written exams are taken separately and in English.

3 – STUDENT PROFILES AND ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
The following students can apply to the American Section:
Native English speakers of all nationalities, from MS, age 4.
Bi-national or bilingual students, from MS, age 4.
French-speaking students who have excellent academic results, a large potential in language and substantial
personal motivation, from CM1, age 9.
The title “American Section” describes the section's identity, but is not exclusive in any way. This means that
a student's admission does not hinge upon any link he or she may have or have had with the United States.
Each secondary student, and each primary student outside of Saint Vincent primary school, who
wishes to enter the International Section, must pass an oral and written test in order to evaluate his or her
ability to speak, write and understand English at the required level. Three sessions of admission tests are
scheduled throughout the year, spring and August (last session exclusively reserved for families returning from
abroad or arriving in Brittany).
Only those students whose academic performance clearly shows a strong aptitude to follow this program are
admitted to the section.
4 – CURRICULUM OF THE AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL SECTION
(A bi-national, complementary education)
4-1 American Curriculum: Throughout their academic career at every grade level, our students are
taught by native English-speaking teachers who employ American materials and pedagogical methods.
Language and literature, history and certain social sciences are entirely taught in English following the
standards and expectations of the most demanding American curricula.
4-2 French Curriculum: French, Geography, Mathematics, Science, and all other options are taught
in French. They follow the French national curriculum determined by the Ministry of Education.
4-3 A In primary school, in collège, and in the Seconde year: organization in two-groups
favors the personal progress of each student
4-3.1 Group 1 : composed of students whose language skills are mastered well enough to
allow them to adapt immediately to a curriculum which is highly demanding from both linguistic and cultural
standpoints.
4-3.2 Group 2 : composed of students who are not yet bilingual but who demonstrate a
strong potential for the English language are placed in group two. In an immersion environment, the students
work with English-speaking teachers who insist upon vocabulary acquisition and the mastery of oral and
written skills. At any moment of their academic career, group two students may be invited to pass into group
1.
4-4 In the Première and Terminale years, there is no more group two. All the American Section
students are in one group where they prepare for the OIB test.

Enrollment in the American Section requires an additional tuition fee.
Specific help learning French is available for non-French speakers. If a teacher identifies a need for it, pupils
may join the F.L.E. class. Its goals are:
 Accompaniment of the pupil in his/her acquisition of French
 Individualized language teaching.
 Development of cultural references necessary to understanding French.
F.L.E classes are open to all non – French speaking pupils, whether or not they belong to the American
Section.

LA SECTION INTERNATIONALE AMERICAINE A SAINT-VINCENT – PROVIDENCE
Ecole– Collège - Lycée
1 - DEFINITION :
La Section Internationale Américaine de Saint-Vincent - Providence offre un programme scolairement
rigoureux permettant aux élèves d’apprendre la langue anglaise à un haut niveau tout en bénéficiant d’une
formation culturelle de grande ouverture. Cette formation constitue ainsi un atout considérable pour toute
activité professionnelle, même scientifique, exigeant en France une connaissance approfondie de deux langues
et de deux cultures. Les élèves qui poursuivent leur scolarité dans cette section auront la possibilité de se
présenter au DNBI (Diplôme National du Brevet option Internationale) à l’issue de la 3ème ou à l’OIB (Option
Internationale au Baccalauréat) à la suite de leurs années de lycée. L’OIB est un diplôme délivré aux élèves
possédant un niveau très élevé dans la langue enseignée. Les lycéens passent toutes les épreuves
correspondant à leur série (L, S, ES), à l'exception de l'anglais et de l'histoire-géographie qui font l'objet
d'épreuves spécifiques, à l'écrit et à l'oral.
2 – OBJECTIFS DE LA FORMATION :
 Exposer les élèves à la culture, aux idées et aux façons de faire américaines.
 Favoriser et développer le bilinguisme dans une ambiance cosmopolite et culturellement riche
 Préparer les élèves à l'option internationale au baccalauréat (OIB)
 Aider tout élève souhaitant poser sa candidature dans une université anglophone ou poursuivre ses études
supérieures en France.
3 – PROFIL DES ELEVES ET CONDITIONS D’ACCES
Peuvent s'inscrire dans la Section Internationale :
 Elèves anglophones de toutes nationalités, à partir de la MS.
 Elèves d'origine binationale ou bilingues, à partir de la MS.
 Elèves francophones possédant un niveau scolaire suffisant, un fort potentiel en langues vivantes et une
grande motivation personnelle à partir du CM1
 L'appellation “américaine” témoigne de l'identité de la section, mais n'est en aucun cas exclusive. De ce fait,
l'admission des élèves ne dépend pas d'un quelconque rapport qu'ils pourraient ou qu’ils auraient pu avoir
avec les Etats-Unis.
 Chaque collégien ou lycéen et chaque écolier extérieur à l’école primaire Saint-Vincent –
Providence qui souhaite entrer dans la Section Internationale se présente à des tests composés d’une
épreuve orale et d’une épreuve écrite afin d'évaluer ses capacités à parler, écrire et comprendre l'anglais au
niveau requis. Trois sessions de tests d’admission ont lieu dans l’année, printemps et fin août (dernière session
réservée aux familles de retour de l’étranger ou hors de la région Bretagne)
 Seuls les élèves dont le dossier scolaire atteste d'une aptitude à suivre cet enseignement sont admis dans la
Section.
4 – PROGRAMME DE LA SECTION INTERNATIONALE AMERICAINE
(un apprentissage bi-national et complémentaire)
4-1 Le programme américain : Tout au long de leur scolarité et à tous les niveaux, les élèves
reçoivent une instruction de la part des professeurs anglophones qui utilisent des méthodes et des supports
pédagogiques américains. La langue, la littérature, l’histoire et certaines sciences sociales sont enseignées
entièrement en anglais selon les exigences du système scolaire américain.
4-2 Le programme français : le français, la géographie, les mathématiques, les sciences, et toutes
les autres options sont enseignées en français et suivent le programme de l'Education Nationale française.
4-3 A l’école, au collège et en 2nde de lycée : une organisation en 2 groupes pour favoriser
le progrès personnel de chacun
4-3.1 Le groupe 1 : il est composé d’élèves dont la maîtrise linguistique permet de s’adapter
immédiatement aux exigences les plus élevées du point de vue linguistique et culturel.
4-3.2 Le groupe 2 : il est composé d’élèves non encore bilingues mais qui ont un fort
potentiel pour faire des progrès en langue anglaise. Dans un environnement d’immersion, les élèves travaillent
avec des professeurs anglophones qui mettent l’accent sur l’acquisition du vocabulaire et la maîtrise des
compétences orales et écrites. A tout moment, les élèves du groupe 2 peuvent être invités à passer dans le
groupe 1.
4-4 En Première et en Terminale, il n’y a plus de groupe 2. Tous les élèves de la Section
Américaine sont en un seul groupe et préparent tous l’ensemble des épreuves du Baccalauréat OIB.

Pour bénéficier de cette formation, il est demandé une participation financière.
En cas de besoin, répertorié par les professeurs, l’élève intègre la classe de F.L.E. Les objectifs sont les
suivants :
 Accompagner l’élève dans l’apprentissage du français.
 Individualiser l’enseignement
 Développer les références culturelles nécessaires à la compréhension du français.
La classe de F.L.E est ouverte à tous élèves, non francophones, qui appartient ou non à la Section Américaine.
