Liquid Acrylics/Collage Extravaganza
Awaken your creative spirit and playful nature. White paper syndrome is common to artists at
all levels. Not here! Learn to use liquid acrylics and collage elements as a vehicle for bold and
loose self-expression. This exciting workshop helps both new and developing artists break free
to explore new directions in acrylics, mediums and collage. By pouring, texturizing, layering,
and pasting you will create stunning abstractions that you can then reincarnate into gorgeous
representational works. You will learn how to effectively use the often confusing array of
acrylic mediums and grounds. You will create your own stamps, templates and learn easy to
use photo transfer processes. You will resurrect your failed watercolours using glazing, gesso
and collage. Composition and design are an integral part of the session. The workshop includes
helpful personal coaching, demonstrations and constructive group discussion.
Relax, play, and reconnect with your joyful creative self.
All workshops are suitable beginner to advanced artists
This workshop is sponsored by Tri-art Canada. Use of all liquid paints, mediums and grounds is provided as part of the workshop fee.

Magical Watermedia Workshop Collage
Materials List
You will be working in layers with very liquid paints and mediums. You will be
dripping, pouring, squirting, scraping among other techniques to get the paint on
your painting surface. This is why the containers with lids and the big brushes
mentioned below are very important to help make these processes “doable” and
easier.
- Tri-art will supply all the paint, mediums and grounds for use during the
session. (a list of the colours is attached separately). If you don't see a colour
that is your particular favourite, feel free to bring it along.
- at least 4 Watercolour papers or canvases or pre-prepared masonite boards: - sizes 16 x
20 in and up). Everyone should have at least one sheet of paper to try out some of the new
mediums
Collage papers: bought or created by yourself (we will also prepare some with tissue paper to
use in collage) The collage papers can be from past failed works and/or of different weights e.g.
rice papers, wallpaper, grass cloth, newspaper, japan rice papers plus white tissue paper (not
coloured - can be from the Dollar Store) for transfers and collage.
Other things to collage with: e.g. sand, pebbles, egg shells, sea shells, twigs, string, rice, bark,
fabric, mesh bags. Including photocopies of photos, or music sheets (fresh copies done on a
commercial copier work best) for photo image transfers
Paintbrushes: (½ in, 1, 2, 3 in ) with some rounds (whatever you have already)- large ones
can be nylon house painting brushes or foam brushes, (get to dollar store or raid your housepaint supplies)
Tools to apply paint: scrapers, dental tools, awls, palette knives, sponges, credit cards, combs,
spatulas, basters, eye droppers, pipettes, squeeze bottles
Materials for drawing: ( NB whatever you currently have) charcoal, oil pastels, conté,
watercolour pencils or crayons, oil bars, pencils, waterproof Sharpies or markers, pastels, India
ink, coloured pencils
Containers with tight fitting lids wide enough to fit your largest brush (e.g. yoghurt/ margarine tubs
will do - one for each colour and several for water (total: at least 8)- this is important! (cheap
tubs are available at dollar stores)
Mixing palette (butchers tray or I have a supply of Styrofoam trays);
Sketch book or pad,
Inspirational materials: egg photos, drawings;
Several painting boards. Plastic sheets to cover painting board(s),
Gloves (latex) to protect your hands,
Cover up smock or shirt to protect good clothes,
Water spritzer (mister) (cheap at dollar shops),
old cotton rags - better than paper towels for lifting paint and environmentally friendlier)
Materials that are Optional (but FUN!), Polyfilla or Durobond 90, Stencils, Stamps –
Purchased ones, or your personal stamps (I will show you how to make them from Styrofoam
meat trays and/or from mat boards!) Old watermedia paintings if you have them (to re-vitalize or
tear up), squirt bottles
