Introduction
The 2008 Directory of Services and Programs for
Abused Men in Canada is one of a series of directories
prepared for the National Clearinghouse on Family
Violence under the Family Violence Initiative of the
Government of Canada.

This directory provides a listing of services for men
who have experienced intimate partner abuse.
Listings are presented by province and territory
(east to west) and alphabetically by town and city. *
Each listing identifies various organizational
attributes including the type of service provided
(information/referral, shelter, counselling, education
or advocacy), the availability of bilingual services
(English and French) or multilingual (various world
languages) services, whether the services are
limited to certain groups (e.g., military and family
members only) or if they are wheelchair accessible.
Some programs require a referral (for example,
from a doctor, local health or community clinic,
employee assistance program, social worker or
First Nations healing centre). Additionally, please
note that if there are service fees, some of the fees
may be covered, in whole or in part, by workplace
employee assistance plans or doctor-referred
medicare.
Listings may also include a toll free number, which
is often accessible only within the province or
territory. Toll free numbers for the National
Clearinghouse on Family Violence can be used
across Canada.
*Please note that we have not evaluated the
services identified in this directory.

aux hommes victimes de violence conjugale.
Les services et programmes sont énumérés par
province et territoire (d’est en ouest) et dans l’ordre
alphabétique des municipalités et des villes*.
Pour chaque service et programme, on indique ses
diverses caractéristiques, comme le type de service
offert (renseignement et renvoi, hébergement,
counselling, éducation, défense), et on précise si des
services bilingues (en français et en anglais) ou
multilingues (en d’autres langues) sont disponibles,
si les services sont limités à un groupe particulier
(p. ex., services offerts uniquement aux militaires
et aux membres de leur famille) ou si un accès est
disponible pour les personnes en fauteuils roulants.
Pour certains programmes et services, il faut
obtenir une recommandation (obtenue, par
exemple, auprès d’un médecin, d’une clinique
sanitaire ou communautaire, d’un programme
d’aide aux employés, d’un travailleur social ou
d’un centre de guérison des Premières nations).
Veuillez aussi noter que les frais peuvent être
couverts, en tout ou en partie, par les plans d’aide
aux employés ou le régime d’assurance-maladie, si
la personne est aiguillée par un médecin.
Dans certains cas, il y a un numéro de téléphone
sans frais qui n’est habituellement accessible que
dans la province ou le territoire en question.
