RENAULT TRUCKS' EURO 6 RANGE OF FIRE-FIGHTING VEHICLES
MEETING FIRE-FIGHTERS' SPECIFIC NEEDS
The ties between the French commercial vehicle manufacturer and fire-fighting
brigades are steeped in history. The vehicles making up Renault Trucks' new Euro 6
range of fire-fighting and emergency response vehicles provide as many solutions to
the different unique situations fire-fighting and rescue services must face. Leading the
field in all ways towards enhancing fuel efficiency, Renault Trucks has equipped its
fire-fighting fleet with Optifuel Solutions. Such solutions encompass various
technological and human resource tools designed to significantly and sustainably
reduce vehicle consumption, which is an increasingly key concern for fire-fighters
when not deployed on an emergency call.
Renault Trucks and fire-fighters go back a long way
The collaboration between Renault Trucks and the French fire-fighting federation (FFMI) is
deeply rooted in history. Working alongside vehicle body specialists active in the sector,
Renault Trucks has established an ongoing dialogue leading to significant contributions
during all stages of developing French and European standards. Through this process, the
company shares its expertise and remains up to date with market needs.
Renault Trucks has set up a bodywork department (CIV, for bodyworks, fire services and
road network) with a section dedicated to fire-fighting. This group allows the manufacturer to
respond quickly to the various demands received from bodywork specialists as well as from
local fire and emergency services (SDIS), who benefit from being able to deal with just a
single partner.

Renault Trucks and fire-fighters: A relationship with strong foundations
COMMUNIQU
As the figures attest, Renault Trucks is the manufacturer of choice for fire-fighters in France.
E
Renault Trucks leads the segment of fire-fighting vehicles in France (fire and rescue vehicles), with a
71% market share in 2012: 494 fire trucks were registered in France during the year, of which 351
were supplied by Renault Trucks. But this is no coincidence: the French manufacturer makes a point of
addressing its customers' needs. The result is a complete range of vehicles that meet fire-fighters'
needs and the specific demands of their profession.
DE PRESSE
Euro 6 vehicles adapted to all fire-fighting tasks
Fire-fighters take on a wide range of assignments. In 2011, victim rescue missions and personal
assistance accounted for 73% of service calls, fires another 7%, traffic accidents 7%, property
protection 4% and technological risks 1%. 12% of fire-fighter operations are described as
miscellaneous. Accordingly, Renault Trucks has developed a set of tools adapted to the specific nature
of these assignments, as well as to urban and rural contexts, industrial sites or particularly difficult
terrain.
Renault Trucks' Euro 6 range is ideally suited to fire-fighters' priorities and offers the following

The Renault Trucks D12 FPTL (light fire tender truck)
The D12 FPTL with 220 hp and a GVW of 10 tons combines compactness, handling and performance.
The 4-door, 6-seater crew cab has been designed to offer easy access for fire-fighting teams and
facilitate the loading and unloading of equipment. For improved ground clearance and streamlined
access, the model has been fitted with 17.5-inch tires.
The D12 FPTL model is used for deployment on standard extinction and straightforward rescue
operations.
Renault Trucks D15 FPT 4X2 fire tender model
The Renault Trucks 280-hp D15 FPT model is available with a GVW of 15 tons, making it possible to
produce FPT vehicles (fire tenders) and FPT-SRs (highway emergency fire tenders).
The Renault Trucks 280-hp D15 4x2 fire tender (FPT) model is equipped with a 4-door 8-seater crew
cab that can accommodate fire-fighters' self-contained breathing apparatuses.

The Optitronic automated transmission
COMMUNIQU
Renault Trucks is determined to offer the best vehicles with the lowest operating costs, its "D"
ESince
model is available with the Optitronic automated transmission, which delivers significant consumption
savings. Thanks to this functionality, automatic gear shifting takes into account load, slope, engine
DE
mapping,PRESSE
powertrain, acceleration response, as well as slowing and braking.
Available on all Renault Trucks 4x2 "D fire-fighting" versions, this model offers the ideal
accompaniment to the DTI engine performance and SCR (i.e. Selective Catalyst Reduction) system for
controlling fuel consumption. With gear shifts taking place at optimal engine speeds to enhance fuel
efficiency, the vehicle uses up to 7% less fuel than with manually-operated gearboxes. The Optitronic
device may be combined with an Optibrake retarder on 6-cylinder engines.
Another benefit over the manual gearbox is the automatic clutch control able to optimise service life
and protect against overheating. This device limits the risk of damaging the gearbox or engine due to
excessive revving. The Optitronic gearbox is a 6AS 1000 model mounted on the Renault Trucks D
210, 240, 250 and 280-hp models.
Renault Trucks offers all power take-off systems (PTO) adapted to meet the requirements of bodywork
specialists, with respect to power ratios, in order to drive the hydraulic pumps.
This custom automated transmission unit with power take-off for fire-fighting applications contains an
automatic gear downshift mechanism, producing an effect similar to that of an engine brake. As an
option, the automated transmission can be fitted with an integrated engine retarder, complete with
controls coupled to the brake pedal.
This range of vehicles perfectly meets the needs of fire-fighters in both urban and rural environments.
Renault Trucks D 4x4
In its 4x4 "Off-Road" or all-terrain model, Renault Trucks offers 250 and 280-hp vehicles in FPT-HR,
FPT-HR, CCR and CCF versions. The more versatile CCRs (rural fire tenders) in terms of application
range comply with the EN 1846-1 and 2 and NF S 61-517 Standards.
The CCFs, designed for fire-fighting on difficult terrain, comply with EN 1846-1 and 2 and NF S 61-518
Standards.
The Renault Trucks 4X4 D CCF model is characterized by excellent mobility, superior performance,
exceptional obstacle clearance capacities, with a 37° pitch angle, plus shock protection and the
capacity to run under hostile conditions and in areas difficult to access.
Moreover, personal protection has not been overlooked: the vehicle offers a reinforced cab with an
interior safety roll bar, three-point safety belts at the four seats, as well as the introduction of thermal
protection on more sensitive control units.

Optifuel solutions: Tools and services for reducing fuel consumption
The Renault Trucks range of fire-fighting vehicles takes advantage of all the manufacturer's fuel
efficiency expertise. Along these lines, Renault Trucks relies on a high-performance driveline and
technological innovations, in addition to an accurate and relevant analysis of consumption-related data
(Optifuel Infomax).
Renault Trucks and fire-fighting services: An international association
Present in the Algerian market, Renault Trucks primarily uses bodywork specialists to respond to calls
for tender. The General Directorate of Algeria's Civil Protection Agency, which handles the needs of
the entire country, relies on Renault Trucks' experience and network of bodywork partners for rescue
and firefighting vehicles, in order to cope with increasingly demanding situations. The number of fire
stations has thus been expanded to respond more quickly to the needs of a growing population.
The total fleet currently consists of nearly 1,600 vehicles built on Renault Trucks chassis, primarily
Midlums. In 2012, Renault Truck supplied 430 new chassis (236 4X4 Midlum CCI chassis, 184 Midlum
FPT chassis and 10 Kerax chassis).
