Roy Hartling
Saskatchewan.
●
Hartling earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts
degree from the San Francisco Art Institute,
California, in 1977; in 1978 he earned a
Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the College
of Art and Design, in Halifax, Nova Scotia; and
was awarded his Master of Fine Arts degree
from Concordia University in Montréal in 1981.
Hartling lives in Montréal where he teaches at
Dawson College. He works primarily in back
and white, making occasional forays into
colour. His photographs bespeak his great
attention to fine printing and attention to light
and tonality.
In his recent work he takes
advantage of contemporary technology and
brings to that medium all his traditional
concerns for the printing process.
His
photographs can be found in numerous
important private and public collections
including the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Halifax,
Nova Scotia, The Canada Council Art Bank in
the nation’s capital, and the Photographer’s
Gallery in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
