RESEARCH INTERESTS
My research focuses on uses of ICT in situations of mobility.
My work is distinguished by the development of a method of observation, video-ethnography,
based on video recordings of the uses of smartphones in public settings. I developed this
approach during my PhD by focusing on the appropriation of Mobile TV in order to follow the
paradigm of the sociology of mobility.
I expanded this research protocol by analyzing the participation in Social Network Sites during
daily commuting. I currently propose to articulate this video approach with a set of methods
from digital humanities to analyze this social phenomenon in its complexity and show how
these new media participations extend telephone practices, modify personal networks and social
structures.
I also carried out a “Vlogging” video-ethnography by analyzing the audiovisual forms of
participation in online social network sites such as YouTube. This work is based on audiovisual
forms of online commemorations during school shootings.
