The event will take place in the Vale Cavern at Science North on Thursday evening, November 14, 2013. The annual Margaret Atwood Birthday Party, in its ninth year, will feature the premier screening of Awaiting Atwood, a comic film by local indie filmmaker, Beth Mairs. Following the film, Ms. Atwood will read from her novel and answer questions. A birthday celebration will conclude the evening’s events. Copies of Maddaddam will be available for purchase and signing at the event, and a cash bar available. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.; film screening at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $20/students $10—
cash only—and will be sold at Old Rock Roastery on Minto, Chapters on the Kingsway, and the Reception Desk and Department of English at Laurentian University (both located in the Parker Building) 705-675-1151 x 4340. Ms. Atwood will be accompanied again this year by her partner, Graeme Gibson. Both writers will participate in the Thinking Extinction symposium at Laurentian University during their visit. The symposium is a unique gathering of scholars who study the phenomenon of extinction in the sciences and humanities (www.thinkingextinction.com). Cet événement se tiendra le jeudi 14 novembre 2013, en soirée, dans la caverne Vale, à Science Nord. La fête annuelle d’anniversaire de Margaret Atwood en est à sa neuvième édition et, cette année, mettra en valeur le lancement du film Awaiting Atwood, comédie de la cinéaste indépendante locale, Beth Mairs.
